Ravens place tag on QB Lamar Jackson; Jackson requests trade (Page 52)

That will shrink the market, not make it bigger. Teams already have been able to make Lamar an offer that Lamar would take (one Baltimore wouldn’t match) and only give up 2 FRPs. There haven’t been any takers. So if Baltimore wants to then raise the price even more, then they’re going to get more offers? That doesn’t make sense.

And this public announcement isn’t coming from Baltimore, it’s from Lamar. What does it say about Lamar? Right now we know there aren’t takers for 2 FRPs + presumed mega deal. Baltimore’s not taking less than 2 FRPs, so the main variable is what Lamar’s willing to accept.

You'd have to offer Lamar a deal that's so massive you'd be confident the Ravens wouldn't match. They've already reportedly offered him 3/$140M fully guaranteed. There's only one way that you're going to acquire Lamar and that's if you negotiate with the Ravens.

Right now we know that no team wants to offer him the perceived mega deal without a guarantee that he's actually going to be playing for them.

Why wouldn't the Jets just hang up on the Packers at this point and call the Ravens instead?

The Lamar trade will be way more complicated because you have to give up more and negotiate the biggest contract in NFL history at the same time.

And?  You'd also have a QB for a lot longer than Rodgers.  Also Rodgers isn't exactly cheap.

That’s…not true? I get it, everyone’s carrying on about how teams “don’t want to do the Ravens’ work for them”, which is true, but vastly overstated.

Teams know the Ravens’ offer (it’s not 3/$140M, that’s inaccurate). They can also, you know, just talk to Lamar during negotiations and ask him what their ballpark is. And then what? The Ravens match and the teams lose, what, a day of doing paperwork?

We’re prepared to offer this guy $250M GTD dollars, give up multiple first round picks, because we think we’re getting a franchise QB in his prime…but we won’t, even though we’ll keep our picks and our money, because we might waste a day of signing contracts? It’s a stretch.

The hold ups are dollars and draft picks. Lamar can’t be dumb enough to think Baltimore will take less than 2 FRPs. So it’s got to be the money.

You also have to change your entire offensive philosophy for him. Rodgers is plug and play with what they want to do.

So what?  Rodgers isn't going anywhere.  Shoot your shot with Lamar and if that doesn't work then fall back on Rodgers

Rodgers could absolutely go somewhere else, especially if that other team is willing to give up the draft capital that GB wants.

I mean there's no guarantee either way, but Rodgers is the safer option and the Jets have already started forming their team around him as their QB. Don't get me wrong it would be HILARIOUS to see another Denver Broncos situation play out, but I doubt that's gonna happen.

Why would Browns fans not love this? Richardson is almost certain to bust as hard as any QB ever has.

Because if there is one team that already has experience with a elite athlete who cant throw well playing QB who can make it work, its the Ravens. The entire scheme is already in place, just plug and play.

Oh yeah, give up significantly more assets, change the entire offense, and give a massive contract to borderline top 10 QB who has been declining, has injury issues and sucks in the playoffs who is also becoming more of a headcase by the day. Seems like a great strategy.

Rodgers has shown to throw the biggest hissy fits for less though. If he finds out they pivoted to Lamar, I guarantee you he would tell the Jets to go pound sand.

Yeah but that scheme isn't staying under Monken.
