Punter Kevin Huber retires

The truest Cincy kid ever to play for the Bengals.  Played at a local high school, then went to the U niversity of Cincinnati, and played his whole career for the Bengals.  Retired with the most games played in team history.  Too bad he didn't finish the season last year. as Drue Cristman's line drive punt late in the AFCCG cost the team a chance at OT in KC.

Punter is usually an unappreciated position. Whether it's blasting the ball downfield, making the ball stop inside the opponent's 20 yard line, being the holder on placekicks -- it all can make a difference. As for Huber, 14 years with the same team is unusual for a punter -- they are often journeymen.

Sounds like a strong reliable career. Unfortunately his position and lack of rings will likely prohibit him from reaching the Hall of Fame, as only Ray Guy is currently in for all punters.

Our newly established Ring of Honor is his ceiling.  Never considered him in HoF discussion.  Just visited the HoF today.  Truly a great experience.

We are often in awe of how athletic NFL players are. That's usually limited to speed and leaping ability. Put punters and kickers are pretty amazing too. A good illustration of that was when former Colts punter Pat McAfee was doing commentary for WWE (which was a sort of short-lived gig for him). During an episode of RAW, he punted a Nerf football into the crowd. It looked like he only half kicked the ball, and it still almost landed in the back row of the arena. I was thinking that you could tell he used to do that for a living.
