Who is the most likely niner legacy they draft?

LMC, gore or rice?

I think that it's LMC as the Jennings replacement. Reliable hands, you know that he'll fight for you as a blocker, has feel after the catch. I think that he'll go in the third - fifth round where we have a lot of capital. Rice is a good player, but he's been largely a vertical contested catch guy in college. I think he might YAC upside, but I don't have evidence from USC based on how they used him. Would love to see a 3-cone/shuttle for him. If you don't YAC here, you don't play. Gore is really dynamic as an outside zone runner, but he's small and I doubt that he handles pass pro on 3rd downs or a large workload. So he's kind of a Matt Breida-y specialist type that can hit home runs for you but possibly little else. That's better than some of what we got, but not particularly exciting for a draft pick.

Can Jennings separate worth a damn?

I'm not sure that this is my biggest issue with Rice? I just am not sure that we need his particular skill set. His best attributes on tape for me are his release package, his hands at the catch point, his adjustment to scrambles. So, I feel like he fits best as a teams 2nd receiver that is on the LoS a large portion of time that does a bit of everything fine and can win some one on ones for you when your best guy drags some attention away. I also like him better on teams that feature the sidelines more than we do. Michael Gallup as a comp maybe?

Different utilization. Jennings broke tackles like a beast in college (more than .5 broken tackles per reception) and always profiled as a big slot to eat to zones.

Rice is largely a down field guy with an ADOT of like 16 yards. If you're going to turn him into a big slot underneath, I think you're taking you're drafting an unknown in that regard.

It's not necessarily just drafting him for the slot. But he will need to play some and come up big on money downs. I DO think he can win on tough, contested catches in the middle of the field.

And he brings an element down the field that Jennings never did.

My concern with rice would also be the draft stock as it's viewed right now. Like late day 2 early day 3 feels spicy to me?

Yeah, I liked him more as a mid fourth round pick where the lack of physical upside felt less bad. I do wonder whether he can actually break more tackles than you think, though? Saw a really impressive rep on one of the like 2 screens he caught and he is built like a horse.

I think end of the 3rd round is fine for him. But I have pretty decent expectations for Bell and he's likely going to take that spot once Jennings leaves.

He's got a build for it, and could he do it? Absolutely. But like you said, he hasn't done it so it's tricky to say that he can. Some of it is just will too, and I'm not going to speculate on that because I don't really know him. Does he have that mentality, etc. Dunno.

He feels like he's got an upside that is just totally capped. I don't see the suddenness in his feet either if he's working underneath. I do like that he's going to make touch catches and has sure hands, but I just think he's going to be dependent on a lot of factors outside of his control.

If can win at a Gallup level down the field (pre acl), this is probably a different conversation though. i just haven't considered that as likely

Agreed. And usually if a dude has YAC skills, the coaching staff knows before we do and does whatever they can to get that guy the ball. Like Malik Washington, who has moved from being considered a late rounder to a day two pick now (as I have been consistently telling people lol).
