The Lions have plenty of examples both ways. Stafford is a QB, he was good on a bad team in a bad organization and got paid. Suh, Golladay, Calvin, Decker etc were non QBs in a bad organization and they got paid.

Suh and Calvin are generational players and before you say Caleb is there are plenty talking about him being a plague for organizations and not as talented as other QBs in draft. I think Decker was overvalued and Golladay was a product of the QB.

I can keep going through examples of good players getting paid on bad teams. Good and great players get paid no matter where they are. If Caleb doesn't believe in himself and thinks he won't get a second contract, than sure, go back and get an extra year of a couple million dollars. If he has any faith in his abilities, he will be extremely stupid to do so.
Just Want A Title
One HBCU player that seems to be getting some good press is Kendall Bohler from Florida A&M. I don't know how far he will rise but he seems to be getting attention. Quinyon Mitchell is connected to the Lions because he is a good prospect that is local but check out the numbers below. High-end measurables along with good production could make him a rising prospect. I am betting he is already on the radar of the Lions scouting staff. "Kendall Bohler, Florida A&M, cornerback The slightly bigger and slightly faster half of the Rattlers' Freak Corner Combo, the 5-11, 190-pound Bohler is a preseason first-team All-SWAC selection after making 23 tackles with two interceptions in 2022. The transfer from Mercer clocked a 4.34 40, broad-jumped 10-11, did 4.18 in the pro agility and 7.02 in the L-drill. He also power-cleaned 335 and squatted 530. https://famuathletics.com/news/2023/8/15/football-kendall-bohler-and-javan-morgan-named-to-bruce-feldmans-freak-list.aspx#:~:text=" Kendall Bohler %2C Florida A%26M%2C cornerback&text=The transfer from Mercer clocked, cleaned 335 and squatted 530.
