Their comment was that they would take Devon Witherspoon (the prospect, not the pro) over any of the guys this year. If we're drafting CB #4 or #5 in this class at #29, it does make me question whether we'd be better off taking someone in rd 2 or rd 3 and filling that slot with another veteran signing. That's if we stay at 29. Holmes has shown he's not afraid to be aggressive in the draft and this team is in striking distance of a Superbowl. If there was ever a year to trade up to nab one of the top CB or EDGE guys if one falls out of the top 10 this is it.

I had the Lions taking CBs with picks 61 and 73. Don't forget about my DB man-crush Kendall Bohler! Lol. I've got a list of 51 CB's. Over the last several drafts we've seen around 35 guys being drafted (36, 37,28, 27, 32 if you work things backwards). So that's going to leave a good chunk of names we'll be talking about as UDFA's. Then it comes down to the Lions profiles for what they want out of their CB's. I've eliminated about 20 guys just based on some conditions (terrible run defense, under 5'10? (maybe 5'11), under 180 lbs, etc.). This is the list of guys I've eliminated as potential Lions using my filters. Kamal Hadden Tennessee DJ James Auburn Dorian Strong Virginia Tech Kris Abrams-Draine Missouri Justin Birchette Ohio Keni-H Lovely Western Michigan Nehemiah Pritchett Auburn Kamari Lassiter Georgia Lance Robinson Tulane Chau Smith-Wade Washington State Donte Kent Central Michigan Caelen Carson Wake Forest Renardo Green Florida State Daequan Hardy Penn State Jaden Davis Miami (FL) Elijah Jones Boston College Jarrian Jones Florida State Kalen King Penn State Josh Newton TCU Johnny Dixon Penn State

If we're looking at CB's drafted in the middle of the draft (16th - 20's) in recent years: AJ Terrell Emmanuel Forbes Christian Gonzalez Deonte Banks Trent McDuffie To get into the 20's we'd have to be giving up the equivalent of a high 3rd (#73). To get up to #16 we would need to give up our 2nd plus. For a team that wants to build through the draft and has had a lot of success in doing so, that's a pretty pricey deal. Holmes has not been afraid to make a move but I also don't see him making that kind of a move after the contributions we've received from this year's rookie class.

Their draft stock seems to be dropping like a stone. Max Melton and Josh Newton seem like solid prospects but their projections have gone from early 2nd round/late 1st round to late 2nd/3rd round. I am not sure what is behind their slide.
Karnage84
NFL Stock Exchange CB Rankings (Daniel Jeremiah top 50 rankings) OUTSIDE Coope DeJean (29) Nate Wiggins (30) Terrion Arnold (6) Kool-Aid McInstry (36) Quinyon Mitchell (19) TJ Tampa Kamari Lassiter (42) Ennis Rakestraw (24) SLOT ONLY Mike Sainristil Tykee Smith Jarrian Jones Kris Abrams-Draine If we go with his rankings, this is the draft order. Terrion Arnold (6) Quinyon Mitchell (19) Ennis Rakestraw (24) Cooper DeJean (29) Nate Wiggins (30) Kool-Aid McInstry (36) Kamari Lassiter (42) TJ Tampa Looking over the last several years, the average # of CB's drafted is 4. 2020 had 6, 2019 had 1... every other year had 4. If he takes another step forward, he is going to be a mid-first round lock. Mid first is different than top QB
detfan782004
Good teams find a way to stock future drafts picks and move back. Being at end of first I could see them move back for future draft capital. After the first half of first round it gets down to scouting departments. After the top 15 imo the next 45 guys are a crapshoot Detroit can find their needs in middle second to later second with good scouting

Most people weren't projecting Jayden Daniels as a "top QB" not so long ago. Sheudur Sanders could very well be looked at as a top QB if he exhibits a growth arc similar to Jayden Daniels. He has all of the tools to do so.

Just Want A Title
I have been hearing some good things about Ennis Rakestraw. Still, I don't get the slide with Josh Newton and Max Melton. I think most people question Cam Hart's speed but I suspect he might surprise at the combine.
