Ian Rapoport, on Ja'Marr Chase:

"My understanding is that the two sides are still discussing a long-term extension, that, if he got it, would make him either: Tied for the highest-paid receiver with Justin Jefferson, or beating Justin Jefferson by one cent, which I believe is Chase's goal."

I'm relatively certain any issue here is the guaranteed money due to the escrow standards required. Bengals would happily pay Ja'Marr what he wants.

I have a feeling it gets announced Thursday before kickoff, a la the Joe Burrow extension last year.

The NFL has what's called the "funding rule" which is supposed to put future guaranteed money in escrow to ensure the player gets it if the franchise goes broke. As you might guess, it's been around a while. It's not actually enforced as we found out when media inquiries were made about Watson's contract with the Browns. It can also just be avoided via option clauses in the contract.
