I see this posted a lot and it brings up some follow on questions. If you have about 14-15 guys on your defense, which ones do you scheme around ? If you have 14-15 guys of various ages, stages of development and contracts - which ones do you scheme around ? And if you scheme for one position group or player, does that help or hurt the other position groups ? Its easy to say it , but when you start diving in, there's always more to it. And scheme matters more/less depending on the position groups too. Its a fine concept, but putting it into practice and deploying it on Sunday is likely a bit more problematic

You put in a bunch of ideas and concepts and try to fool the opposing team... or you teach very solid techniques and absolutely master one or two coverages and plays and adapt your DL and pass rush play to situational football. If you're going to focus on one or two coverages and win with technique, execution, and adjustments then you want to have something that fits the players at hand, especially featuring your best players with a style that gets them the best matchups and freedom to make plays. Wade Phillips and Demarcus Ware is a perfect example of this. So is Aldon Smith and Justin Smith in SF with Fangio/Harbaugh on the Texas Stunt. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1762632-the-deep-post-breaking-down-the-san-francisco-49ers-texas-stunt?m=1 If you're going to be very diverse and tricksy, then you want to highlight your best players with those plays and having your best players doing different things out of very similar looks. Zimmer using Harrison Smith is a nice example of deception and flexibility as a strength.
