Great news. Good to know the Vikings are exploring all of their options. Without doubt, Brees is the QB that I would be willing to pay the most money. Offer him 2 years at $70M and see what happens.

Overpaying a small amount, but that is the cost of doing business when trying to pry a franchise QB. The Vikings can swallow it for the couple years Brees has left. Meanwhile, it would put the Packers in position that they may have to swallow that number until their QB leaves town.

At the very least, it may force New Orleans to pay him a couple million more, and it's never a bad thing when you can stick it to the Saints either.

Any feelings on who the Vikings will end up with? McCarron? Will they pursue Mike Glennon to be the backup? And, how reliable are these feelings of yours? Is it a sixth sense or more like feeling you are due in the casino after a long losing streak? When feeling your time for a win is coming do you ramp up your bets linearly or exponentially (How confident are you in these feelings)?

If they miss on Cousins, im near 100% sure that they will end up with either Teddy or Bradford. Along with another veteran, possibly Mccown for competition/insurance. I think there would be some mild interest in McCarron if the price was right, and i dont really see Glennon as a fit. Flip wants a somewhat mobile QB, and Glennon is not that at all. But Glennon will get a deal somewhere as a backup, for way less than he got in Chi.

As far a reliability on what i think, i still think its up in the air really. I really feel that NYJ are gonna have a higher offer, and 9 times out of 10 players choose to go after the money. Which is understandable, were talking about millions of dollars here. If Kirk decides to go to the Vikings for less money id be a little surprised depending on what the gap is. Right now i think there's still around 60% chance Kirk will be a Viking. I dont have any sources or anything, just the people i communicate with on twitter.

Also as a Vikings fan you learn to expect disappointment lol.

Also with the Keenum to Denver news, it could force the Vikings to be more aggressive in their pursuit of Cousins. Because if they miss on Kirk, and then somehow Teddy/Bradford sign elsewhere that could be an ugly situation. I mean that would force them into potentially doing something desperate, which would be really bad. They need to find out asap whether Kirk wants to sign with them or not so they can switch their attention to Teddy/Sam.

I dont think Teddy/Sam will have that hot of a market, but losing them is a possibility with teams like Arizona/Buffalo still needing a bridge type starting QB.

I have a feeling Kirk Cousins is going to the Jets, he's going to follow the money.

I've been thinking the same thing.  For some reason (maybe it's just wishful thinking), I'm picturing him wearing green and white.

Let's hope it doesn't come down to desperation time.  Last time we were in that situation we ended up with Christian Ponder.

Yeah, really im content either way. If we sign him and the contract is not too bad then ill be happy. If we miss on him and end up with Teddy ill be happy.

I will not be too happy if we overpay for him though.

But regardless, whoever is starting for the Vikings next year ill be rooting for and hoping they succeed.

Me too.  I'm really hoping we end up with Teddy and Lamar Jackson though.  :D

Right. I could see them doing something really dumb, panicking and trading picks for Nick Foles.

For what its worth, i think one of Kirk-Sam-Teddy will be the starter for Minnesota next year.

Teddy-Sam-Sloter wouldn't be all that bad of a situation actually.

not horrible, but give me the best quarterback on the market.

tomorrow will be an interesting day.

I'll actually be fine with whoever we end up with.  I'm just glad Keenum is off the table for us.

Come to think of it, if we miss out on all of them, maybe we would have to go so far as to scour minor league baseball for a possible candidate.  Hmmm....  ;)

Just because they didn't win doesn't mean the team wasn't talented enough to win. You telling me the 2011 Patriots weren't talented enough? And the Vikings defense in the 1970s wasn't talented enough?

As for the last paragraph....English please! What the heck does "pay the top QB available to 'interact with' the other units" mean?

There were failures by the coaches, and great plays by the winners that led to one great team losing.  Each SB loser probably had a great, top 5 QB, and good defense, WRs, etc.  But, so did the winner.  The combination of a top 5 QB and other good/ great units just weren't good enough on that day to overcome the other top 5 QB and his team.

Pay the top QB to be part of a team that has units other than 'QB', and play (interact with them) as a team.  The focus of Cbearhall's post was a QB, isolated as a single player, whereas he is part of an offense, which is part of a team of Offense, Defense, STs, and coaches.

'Interact' indicates the evaluation of QBs by GMs considers the type of offense their team/ HC/ OC uses, the strengths of their OL, RB, receivers, and how their defense and STs gives the offense field position, turnovers, average points yielded to the opponent, etc.

For those suggesting a possible 'doomsday scenario' where the Vikings miss out on top free agent QBs, how could that happen?  Which teams would sign which QBs?

Start with an assumption that Denver signs Keenum.  Which other teams needing a QB signs a FA QB, and which ones don't sign a FA QB, but draft one instead?  What does Rick The Pickumulator have left to chose from in free agency, and is there an opportunity to draft a QB after other teams pass on one because they signed a FA QB; e.g. Jets sign Cousins and don't draft one at #6, etc.

Perhaps you are a psychic and were able to see into the future, to March 17?  Perhaps he'll celebrate his new contract with corned beef & cabbage and a mug of green beer?
