  1. Ability and Success as a Coordinator does not often translate to success as a HC-Coordinator. We see it time and time again. NFL Teams and ours don't ever seem to be able to grasp that. I said it then and no one really agreed but our coaching search was disappointing in terms of the candidate list (i.e., Gregg Williams, Brian Flores, Matt Eberflus, Jim Caldwell, Kevin Stefanski, Dan Campbell, Nick Sirianni, Freddie Kitchens). It seemed to me like John Dorsey didn't want to hire a veteran HC b/c he didn't want to end up like he did in KC where the Coach could turn things against him. I hope Freddie can turn it around. I actually think that the talent that we have will get wins and could mask Freddie's deficiencies. It was disappointing then seeing our candidates for the job and looking back on it it's no better.
  2. Beyond the Poll questions, 5 games into this season what are some things you believe about this team, coaches, and/or the players.
  3. This. OL has struggled some this season but mostly there's been plenty of time. OBJ has been doubled a lot but often he's not.
  4. That second video is pretty definitive the other clip was not... in that second one it's pretty clear Sherman went to shake Baker's hand, but Baker didn't see it initially. Once Baker did he put his hand out but Sherman had already kind of moved on to the next guy so Baker patted him either on his pads in the front or made some contact with his hand. Therefore, Sherman who much like Baker looks for any and everything potential sign as a slight to fuel him likely took Baker not seeing his hand right away as some sort of purposeful slight even if it wasn't
  5. I get it but really there's nothing definitive at all about that clip either way. It's more proof of whether people side with Baker or Sherman regarding whether it's evidence of anything with Sherman in particular.
  6. Here's the thing: It is more common than not that success as an OC does not translate to success as an HC-OC even within the same team/personnel from year to year. We see it all the time: A strong solid OC then seems incompetent as an OC when they become HC. Look what happened with Dirk Koetter when he went from OC of Tampa Bay to when he became OC-HC. We only had a small sample size for Freddie as well. Each season is different as well. I'm just saying that from the outside looking in it makes sense to blame the "new ingredient" (Monken), but there are other new ingredients as well like Ryan Lindley instead of Ken Zampese. Freddie calls the plays. Jody Wright, Ryan Lindley, Stump Mitchell, James Campen, and Todd Monken give their input on game-plan and a few core play-calls. Freddie includes some and excludes input as he sees fit. Freddie leads the offensive meetings. Monken works to keep Freddie organized on task and leads meetings with James Campen whenever Freddie is unavailable b/c of HC duties. This is Freddie's Offense. The issues fall on all involved of course, but some of our issues are b/c Monken is underutilized not because his incompetent involvement imo.
  7. You make some good points about how Baker's core full field processing issues work together and build off each other to create other issues. All is not lost and there's time for Baker and the offense to turn it around. One thing though: It's Freddie calling the plays and leading the critical offensive meetings not Monken as he's been turned into a figure head assistant thus far. After Freddie, I've heard that it's been James Campen and Jody Wright with more influence on this offense than Monken and even then Freddie's is dominating the scheming and organization instead of being more collaborative. Monken probably could help us more as his offenses are predicated off of more rhythm building. Monken also believes that people close to Freddie have been periodically floating the idea of the offense struggling to come together is as a result of Monken's incompetence. Such rumblings have been prevalent since the offseason. Monken also took issue with Freddie not coming to his defense in the media and talking around the issue not addressing the question when he was directly asked there was any truth to the rumor that "Monken has been underwhelming at his job so far" in the offseason. I'm telling you right now. It could get messy soon between Monken and Freddie as they've apparently had a rocky relationship from the beginning.
  8. Indeed. I'm afraid the needed resiliency is often a core trait developed before a lot of these guys ever took an NFL snap and some of our young guys don't have it when everything isn't going as expected. Let's hope they can find it soon.
  9. Facts.. most def... we need some dogs not front runners who give in when it's time to sack up and work/grind ... Even though I never thought Baker was the type to put a team on his back like a Deshaun Watson type, I at least thought he'd go down fighting and be a spark for this team. Sadly, he hasn't even been that as there's been no real spark or magic moments. It hasn't all been on him of course. Really great throws here or there but I don't ever feel his presence when I watch him or see him assert his will on the game like the top QBs or even above average QBs in the league. All is not lost and he's young in the league. Man... I hope he and this team figure it out.
  10. It's easy to think Todd Monken is the problem when it 'seems' like all we did was add something new (Monken) therefore the new thing has to be to blame. It's only because I've been told otherwise by a person in the know that I don't think that. Even on the surface level we also lost Ken Zampese; elevated Ryan Lindley; made Freddie have to spend most of his time with HC duties ... BUT the most One thing that actually will come out later about our coaching staff if things go south is that the 2nd in command offensively is James Campmen not Todd Monken. Monken has had a figure head position since the beginning of training camp with 2 people close to Monken thinking that he is being set up as the fall guy from the very beginning. Monken operates much like Mike Pettine did under Rex Ryan: He keeps meetings, input from players/coaches, ideas, and the game-plan organized during the week. He helps keep Freddie stay on task and leads offensive meetings when Freddie has HC duties, but interestingly Monken often has been forced to take a backseat to Campmen.
  11. This team is weak mentally and more disappointing than the loss is that we fold and mail it in when things don't go our way. The team quit and gave in. Great teams fight no matter what adversity hits until the final second ticks off. It's worse to have talent and to come out with nothing than it was during the Bryce Treggs Kasen Williams Cody Kessler Deshone Kizer era. The losing and underachieving was expected. Now, I at least expect the surplus of talent will fight. We haven't seen it more often than not, and I can't stomach it much longer.
  12. Don't forget.. in these rough times " Freddie Gets U"s..
  13. Freddie come on man... Scheming Harris on Bosa .. no mas..
  14. Why do we spread our cheeks so often early in games? Come On!!
  15. Baker 5TDs: 2INTs; 1 Fumble but recovered; 3 bad Sacks; 447 yards; 61% completion percentage OBJ: 7 for 146 yards; 1 TD Callaway; 4; 78; 1 TD incl. a 65 yard deep TD. Jarvis: 9 for 98; 1 TD RSJ: 6 for 70; 1 TD Dontrell Hilliard; 4 for 28; 1 TD Chubb and others eat up the rest of the yards
  16. I heard he was a little gimpy running routes in practice this week. Based on that, I just made the assumption (and I'd love and be thrilled if I were wrong of course) that if he's held out this week he might also miss the quick turn around game against the Seahawks as Monday to Sunday might not be enough time for him to get right with a knee. That would then push him to the Patriots game 2 game weeks (49ers and Seahawks). I could definitely see him back on a limited basis but as he's a critical part to the offenses functioning I'd rather them keep him out until he's completely ready to go. Would be great to see our offense at full strength on Monday though.
  17. Really digging in on this 49ers team I fully expect our Offense to get wild with the addition of Callaway this week. If our OL holds up, I see multiple deep ball TDs to OBJ and Callaway. This should be a fun one. I doubt Higgins will be back for another 2 weeks or so given how shaky his knee is.
  18. I completely agree that an impact blocking-receiving TE would be far more valuable and functional in Freddie's offense than a receiving-blocking TE and I don't see much use at all in our offense for a pure receiving TE at all. The use of Pharoah Brown as a pulling blocker and gap sealer has been key on crucial runs and 1st down rhythm pass calls. Freddie loves calling those return action fake blocking calls where the TE appears to be down blocking in the way the defense has seen all game to only then be caught by surprise when off of the same look the TE run free in the seam or in the screen space. Interestingly, Freddie has called those type of plays a fair amount of times but Pharoah lacks the athleticism to get open, or we just aren't looking his way or a penalty blows the play dead. Harris isn't the blocker our offense desires. Will be interesting to see if there are prospects great at both dimensions much like the TJ Hockenson's or George Kittle's of the world. Likely not.
  19. I'm preparing to start digging in on CFB prospects for December. IMO to get to the next level this team needs the following: 1.) Premium Speed Boundary WR that commands defensive attention and gravity 2.) An all everything speed, physical force, ball-hawking Hybrid Safety, 3.) LT/RT/RG (I think Forbes is going to be our RG of the future), 4.) An Impact Blocking-Receiving TE (I still believe in Njoku and RSJ looked good in limited opportunities; Baker thrives in offenses with big play TEs,) 5.) A starting quality CB prospect in the even that Greedy and/or Denzel Ward continue to struggle with injury issues. --------- Anyone have a few TEs, Safeties, or WRs that have caught your eye this season?? (I'm not referring to the Big names like Albert O or whoever unless those players have even elevated their play.. in that case I 'll check them out again too.
  20. Schobert with the pass intereferance... that probably gets challenged
  21. Might not be a bad idea... Seibert then focuses on field goals exclusively... and maybe onside kicks..
  22. My goodness John Harbaugh... lol ... That's a bad 4th down go for it call... punt that ball... I'll take it...
