Colin Kaepernick

At the top of his game Colin Kaepernick was so fun to watch. The playoff run where he ran rings around the Green Bay Defense, where the 49ers came back from a 17-0 deficit in the Georgia Dome to beat the Falcons, and almost coming back to win it all against the Baltimore Ravens. The 49ers of 2012 were such an entertaining team.

Kaepernick is absolutely good enough to play in the NFL. The fact is though that no NFL team wants the noise that will come with having CK on the team.

Imagine a team decided to take the plunge and sign him to their team. You'd get the media on your doorstep seven days of the week asking your players not about their play or the next game, but about Colin Kaepernick. Asking your Head Coach not about  the next game and the gameplan, but about Colin Kaepernick. Asking your GM if they're worried about what Kaepernick will do on the sideline. These are questions that will get asked day in, day out.

The Anthem policy is still being discussed ad nauseum even now, with the league attempting to enforce rules that many players are ready to fight even harder against.

It's a shame we won't likely get to see Colin Kaepernick play in the NFL again, at least in the short term. But when you see what a team would be taking on by bringing him on board then you can't blame their reluctance.

Is this really still a thing?

Fact: Kaep is plenty good enough to play in the NFL pretty sure we all get that
Fact: Kaep is a fringe starter/solid back up QB caliber player that is scheme specific due to his less than adequate accuracy and running ability.
Fact: Kaep comes with a ton of baggage
Fact: Teams prefer to avoid distractions on their football team unless said player is really good thus nobody signing Kaep and Dez like players and guys like OBJ are getting paid.

The off the field distractions and baggage thing is always overstated imo.  Kaep would be what reporters would keep asking coaches and GMs and whatnot about for like, a couple weeks at most, then back to being just the topic of a blog article once a month or so.

"Distractions" almost always means "it's political but we don't want to admit it's political."
