Not sure where you got that the only team was the Browns. Its quite possible he had multiple teams interested but wanted to go someplace with a chance to start.

Only being good enough to start in Cleveland is not an endorsement. In fact, it's an indictment.

This late in the preseason, rosters are fairly set. So I wouldnt assume hes only good enough to start for Cleveland. Just that at this point, it gives him the best chance.

Still... he could still get cut

Well if he was looking for a starting job, that may be true. Still, the point the rest of us was making is that he should be signed for OG depth, not that he should be a starter.

You can’t possibly be arguing that he’s not a better option than Catalina and Kalis, etc who might be the back ups at guard.

I am absolutely telling you that Catalina and Kalis are better options than Watford as a backup guard.

Catalina and Kalis might actually be good or develop into decent role players/backups. They are young and have not had a lot of playing time in the NFL. They also have more time in our current scheme than Watford does. They have potential to be something on this team.

We know that Watford is not good. He's been in the league five years, and is on his fifth team. He was on the 31st ranked offensive line, and they didn't want to keep him. He is not a good offensive lineman. He's basically Shawn Lauvao. Why on earth would we bring another Lauvao?

The whole freaking point of trading for Alex Smith is that this team is NOT rebuilding. They are supposed to be competitive. Bringing in Watford makes you LESS competitive. He sucks. Yes, he's better at football than I am. But in comparison to the rest of the NFL, Watford is a trash offensive lineman.

Idk man.  Watching these preseason games Catalina and Kalis, in fact the entire backup Oline has looked pretty awful.

It’s funny when we get all upset about a backup guard when Gruden still can’t get plays in and has to call timeouts, team continues to look completely unprepared and unconditioned, we don’t have a starting running back, our starting TE is Mr Glass, our starting slot receiver ( who regressed last year) hasn’t had even one play, our old man starting quarterback has the worst rating of any starting qb in preseason, learning a new offensive system and has had few game reps with starting receivers, defense under perrinenial subpar coach manusky, Norman getting beaten like a drum, other corners are inexperienced, safeties looking awful and a kicker who is struggling just barely getting extra points through the uprights. Gotta be impressed with the passion of our Redskins fans!!!

Maybe. But we also know that Shawn Lauvao is never going to get better. Catalina and Kalis might.

And one of them will probably make the team - hopefully Kalis IMO bc he played pretty well vs Clinton McDonald - but we could put one of them on the practice squad and sign a vet guard as a back up to Lauvao and Scherff. I fail to see how that’s not the best decision to make for good depth at OG for this roster this year.
