Since he's come into the league, only two receivers have more yards than Thomas; AB and Julio. Not sure how he isn't in the top 5 or higher.

"Since he's come into the league" stats are always biased in favor of the player coming into the league.

Rookie WRs always come in and set the world on fire, I forgot.

Looks like Michael Thomas is on pace for 1,780 yards and 12 touchdowns after 4 games this year. Obviously early, but if he can finish anywhere near that it would be hard not to have him in the discussion with the leagues best WR's. He had a bit of a down game today by his standards, but still was perfect on his targets today (4 targets, 4 catches). Thomas is has now caught 42 out of his 44 targets this year, which is just an insane stat there.

On pace is meaningless a quarter into the season. 9 WRs on on pace for more than 1600 yards. 18 players are on pace for 12 or more receiving TDs. Hell, Julio is on pace for 2000 yards and 0 TDs.

Not always. But it sets the parameters to be ideal for that player. I did a post about it with RBs awhile back, because someone was bragging about a certain RB leading the league in rushing yards since he entered the league, but like 6 different RBs hold the claim for leading the league in rushing yards since they came in the league (it was like Hunt, Gurley, Elliott, McCoy, Gore, and Peterson, or something.) It's just a stat designed to be biased in favor of the player it refers to.

That doesn't really apply to receivers though. The list for the top WR under those parameters is two - Larry Fitzgerald, and Antonio Brown. That's it.

Thomas is one of 4 players in NFL history to top 70 receptions/1,000 yards in their first and second season. His 196 catches in his first two NFL seasons is the all time record. His 2,382 yards through 2 seasons is the 6th best in NFL history.

He doesn't sit third on the yardage list since he came in because the stat creates the ability to do so for younger players, he sits there because his first two seasons have been historically great. And he's following that up by having a great quarter of football this year.

Sure it's hardly a be all end all stat, but it does give us an idea of what players are showing signs of having a breakout year. Obviously the final numbers are still 12 games away and a lot can change, but at least for now it starts painting the picture of how guys are starting the year off.

Do you think he'd be on that pace in a Bengals uniform?

And yet Boyd is no where the receiver Green is. Funny how stats work like that.

You posted a statistical hypothetical that Thomas couldn't continue at a similar rate with the Bengals. I answered with why it wouldn't be far fetched that Michael Thomas puts up similar stats given how things have worked with the Bengals/Dalton this year. I do think hypothetical arguments like the one you presented are a largely useless way to debate, as there is no way to know one way or the other, but you're just grasping at straws with this response and attempting to move goal posts haha
