HOW DOES EARLY FA SIGNINGS IMPACT OUR DRAFT NEEDS?

Really?? I'm not convinced at this point. The 4.41 is outstanding but there are questions about his ability to bend and that level of athleticism apparently didn't show up on tape. I haven't watched this myself but I've heard similar things from a couple guys (Daniel Jeremiah, Bucky Brooks, Matt Miller... maybe even the PFF guys). One of the things that I love with the Flowers signing is that he's going to generate pressure and that could lead to other guys making plays and getting the numbers.

Sweat lacks flex, but I'm currently riding high on his bandwagon. I'm all for putting the best possible edge out there opposite Flowers in order to take advantage of the pressure he generates. He's got a tendency to pressure without getting the sack, so we need someone over there or else Flowers is kind of wasted.

I do agree with you there, Flowers' impact might not show up on the stat line like some of the other big names (D. Lawrence) but I expect the whole defensive front will be helped by his presence. I don't want to go the route we have in the past where we had an edge rusher (Ansah) and then never found a guy to play opposite of him. I do question the need to do this at #8 in a deep DL class. Even if we get a guy that is a one trick pass rushing specialist, we have a number of guys who are already solid against the run where it might not matter.

Just curious, what would convince you? You've already mentioned not seeing him or the problem or whatever so I'm just curious as to what would change your mind on him since you've come up with an opinion based on other opinions on someone you've not seen or watched or seen the same problems others are mentioning.

Edge isn't our biggest weakness by any means and we can definitely get some pressure later in such a deep draft... But it's an opportunity to potential make the position an incredible strength, which I like.

I'm not sold on anybody that I think will make it to us right now. I'm probably fine with anyone as long as our FO knows what they're doing for once and are actually executing a plan.

I'd love Bosa, Allen or Quinnen Williams, but that's not happening. Right now I'd be fine with Sweat, White, Oliver or Greedy Williams at 8. (Or Metcalf but I'm gonna drop that since it's obvi not happening) I'd be semi worried about Gary.

I'd also be fine with trading back, though that would obviously depend on a lot.

Apparently he fell or slipped but this is definitely a question mark. What if he goes out and then has an average showing in these drills at his pro day?

If he goes out and shows out in the other drills at his pro-day, I am fine with it, but average isn't going to cut it IMO.  Not at 8 anyways.

1) Pro Day workout results 2) Watching film (I've been spending most of my time on TE's and RB's so far) 3) Understanding that the Lions are looking to use him purely as an elite pass rushing specialist who's going to take advantage of the pressure generated by Flowers.

He might not even be an available option if 1 and 2 line up positively... some mocks have him at #4 or #5.

I still want the Lions to take the BPA on defense at 8 and then again in the second round. Any position would work. They still could use any of these things: better pass rush from outside or inside, a LB upgrade, a #2 CB, a replacement for Quin.

If you assume the two quarterbacks will go before #8, which I do, that leaves 6 players the Lions will get at least one of: Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Greedy Williams, Montez Sweat, Devin White. I want whichever one of those we can get. Wisdom is that Allen, Bosa and Q. will all be gone but you never know, stranger things have happened.

Or if Bosa, Allen and Sweat are all gone, and they're set on a defensive lineman, which would be wise if you ask me, they can take almost any flavor they want: inside penetration (Oliver), a second man-mountain to pair with Snacks (Lawrence), a proven sack producer on the outside (Ferrell), a solid 3-technique (Wilkins).

If they stay at #8 I think Devin White is the pick.  We need an outside CB but I don't think Greedy Williams quite that valuable.  Personally, I think the best scenario for the Lions is a trade-back that gets them an extra second and/or 3rd round pick. Getting an extra second and third would be ideal.

Devon white is Jarrad Davis 2.0. I’ll pass

I think we have to grab the best DL or edge. It’s not often we will be in the position to grab an elite player at an elite position like this. Just have to go for it.

Bosa, Allen, Williams, Oliver, Burns, Sweat. One of them are going to be there and I think we have to take one.

What's his gimmick? Being insanely athletic and explosive and the perfect size and incredibly strong and getting good separation and making some circus catches?

He definitely needs a ton of work on his routes and has issues with drops, I'll give you that. I think he's going to be special though.

He is really unpolished as a receiver. Yes he does have insane speed and athleticism but that doesn’t mean it will translate to the NFL.

He reminds me more of Ted Ginn, Cordelle Patterson, or Jacoby Ford.

Was able to find success in HS and college over pure athleticism alone and has gotten away with it but at the NFL level it takes more than athleticism to succeed (Vernon Gholston)

He does have difficulty with his routes when it’s not straight line, drop issues, and a low football IQ. The last one makes me think he will have a hard time adjusting to NFL players skill level and their understanding of game tape and how to make adjustments.

Well ya because I ❤️ him

Well then I guess I have no debate O.oxD

But seriously, theres quite a few players I would take over jarred davis. I think hes been a good linebacker but usually 1st round linebackers should be studs and he hasn't shown it.. yet

atleast they didn't draft Reuben Foster lol
