Rome Eternals

Offense

Smash mouth football

We are going to come out in the power I this week and go run heavy with the passing game going off play action.  Hungary likes to play three safety cause until this past week the only had special teamers at third lb.

They try to accomplish this by putting Harrison Smith in the box.  Our pff Stat of the week shows that Smith is bottom ten in the league in playing the run this season.  Up front Brandon Graham is a great run stopper so we are just gonna attack Jon Allen and Mario Addison endlessly in the run game as they have been turnstiles in that department. We really love our offensive line and with Hamm at fb, he just brings more man power in blocking .

We will rotate our RB with mack getting 40 percent of the carries with the other two RB getting 30 percent run.  Most of Lindsey work will come out of passing formations. We will run every run play available, dives off tackle, sweeps, power o, counters

Once the run is established we can hit some play action passes with Howard getting behind a lb looking in the backfield.  Ham won't be just a blocker as he'll sneak into the flat off action. We won't shy away from letting our excellent route runners do what they do off play action and we'll try a couple deep shots with Cooper.   We also like attacking McMillian out of three wide in coverage when the time arises.

In long situations we go five wide as it takes Kuechley either out of the game or puts him on a WR

Tl/dr. Pound the rock, Brees off play action, move the chains, control the clock

Defense

This week we face Jared Goff and a solid running tandem led by Leonard Fournette

The offensive line is very solid but we trust our excellent run defenders to maintain their responsibility and funnel Fournette inside to our LB and Box safety.

On the outside we will be playing majority man one deep safety.  We feel our corner talent is the best group in the league. Humphrey will be on Metcalf, Jackson goes speed for speed with Slayton when he's in or gets Sami if PR for some reason starts him while Amukamra gets Larry.  Four wide nrc gets whichever lines up in the slot. Jenkins around for five wide.

Hicks or LVE is in charge of Olsen  while either LVE or Wilson grabs the RB depending on who is blitzing(three options to keep the offense guessing) .  Boston plays the cover one role for us cheating towards the Metcalf side of the field. We trust our other corners in press coverage to throw off the Hungary timing as Fitz and Sanu aren't much of deep threats at this time in their careers and Slayton is just OK when he's not facing the Jets secondary.

This defense allows us to put Wilson in the box to help against the run while up front we have a great run stopping line with Dunlap Mccoy and Tomlinson. Our rotation is much deeper this season with Dunlap playing well with Takk starting to produce with Dalvin rotating often giving more beef in the middle and ioannidis pass rushing down specialists.  If Hungary keeps a player in, his cover man gets the underneath robber zone. Two te Milano hops on the field for a corner (based on WR assignment) with the second TE his responsibility.

We will maintain the cover one look with the Blitzer dropping into underneath coverage about a third of the time to keep Goff guessing.  Switching over to man cover two in longer situations

We will per usual mix in zones blitz, and rarely base zone  to keep the offense guessing

Tl/dr. Keep Fournette bottled up.  Trust the talented corner group. Vary blitzes cover one /two. Rotate fresh bodies up front

@ Hungary Hippos

Motivation:

We need to win this game to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Everything is on the line here.

Offense:

Note: Hungary is the home team. No Road Goff today!

On offense this week we will be subbing out Sanu for Slayton this week who has been a shining star for the Giants passing offense.

This week we want to attack Rome through the air. They sport a trio of above average CBs with Humphrey being  the best of the trio. However, they are not unbeatable. Prince will be their most beatable CB in our opinion of the trio and we will look to test him quite frequently in the game today.

We feel we have some favorable matchups against Rome this week and we will look to spread out the ball to our litany of receiving threats on offense. We will also be experimenting with our alignment and our sets. We will sport some four wide speed sets by swapping Fitz out Gabriel and Isabella to test their CBs coverage abilities with some of the fastest receivers in the NFL. We will also split Olsen out wide, and use our RB trio both out of the back field and out wide (Mostert mainly). We do not want the Rome secondary to get used to any one formation or set up as we look to keep our playoff hopes alive this week. We also want to mix in deep shots to test Rome’s safety group especially with how Wilson has given up a lot of receptions. Look for Slayton and Metcalf on vertical routes to test that.  We will also show some 2 TE and 3 TE sets to test a struggling Jordan Hicks and LVE (who has a season high of 10 missed tackles) in coverage.

In the running game we will give lead carries to Fournette with Peterson and Mostert getting some additional as secondary in the RBC. The place we feel Rome struggles the most on run defense is at the edge so look for a lot of runs towards the sides utilizing the TE to help chip a LB or safety at the next level to keep the backs moving forward against Rome’s defense. When Mostert comes in we will utilize his speed to test the pass coverage of Rome. We will also sport some 2 TE looks from time to time to add an additiona blocker off the edge.

Defense:

Formation:  4-2-5 / 3-2-6

As we saw last week, when Drew Brees is being chased around, his passing stats plummet. In this game Hungary brings to the table four pass rushing defensive ends in Graham, Addison, Suggs and Wake that will keep the pressure on throughout the game. The pressure will not be letting up and since it will be coming from both sides, it isn’t just one guy they can choose to chip or double team, they have to worry about both sides at the same time. This forces the other offense to take more pressure onto Brees or to keep a guy in which keeps another weapon from being downfield.

Not only do we have pressure off the edge, we also have good push up the middle with Williams and Allen. Nick Williams has come out of nowhere and has tallied 6 sacks thus far this season while Allen pulls another 4. Rome has a very talented oline, though Karras has been their weak point this season. Williams will be placed over Karras for the majority of the game to push up the middle and shrink the pocket so Drew can’t step up in to the pocket away to avoid the outside rush. Davison and Woods will also come into the game intermittently to keep the push going.

Situationally, we will blitz a 5th man in Luke Kuechly finding the open gap up the middle of the offensive line, but for the most part we will stick to a four man rush and drop the rest into coverage. We are solid in coverage across the board in our secondary which will help us matchup with Rome’s receiving threats. Juju is a weak point for Rome this week due to his history of head injuries (3 over the past 2 years and becoming injured yet again this week). Raekwon will be the spy on the RB throughout the game and will cover them out of the backfield. On short yardage, Al Woods will sub in for Williams to plug the middle.

Because of personnel flexibility, Rome can come out in a lot of different formations. Currently we are going to plan a base 4-2-5 man coverage defense to if they run a 3WR,1TE offense.and If they come out with 4 WRs then we’ll be taking off Raekwon McMillan and bringing on Emmanuel Moseley. We will adjust formation as needed based on their base set. Our CBs will be physical at the line of scrimmage to disrupt the timing of the offense. We want receivers’ routes to be effected from the start of the play. This plays into how we want to pressure Brees as mentioned earlier. With Rome’s WRs needing more time to get their routes started, that gives the pass rush extra time to hit home.

Coverage responsibilities: Hayward will have Amari Cooper. Shaquill Griffin will have Julian Edelman. Tramon Williams will have Juju. Budda Baker will play deep zone. Harrison Smith will move up in the box and cover OJ Howard.  Luke Kuechly will be playing a shallow zone to disrupt short routes such as crossing routes. McMillan will be covering their RB out of the backfield as mentioned before. If Rome comes out with 4 WRs, McMillan will sub out for Moseley. In this situation, Smith will stay in the box and take over RB spying. Smith will cover in five wide.

Lol. So he's standing there waiting to see if it's a handoff.  Cool

Well a spy will also diagnose a play. Defenses read and react as well. They all stay in formation and then when play snaps if it is a hand off they don't continue their passing coverages. They read and react to the back.

Lol if you think people are gonna judge Juju as injured entering this week

He has a checkered concussion history. It is no different than any other injury. He is more prone to them than others.
