So the biggest development of the year is that DT Tripp has earned Superstar dev trait.  He has the Strip Specialist and Finesse Specialist Traits.

Joe Mixon has started regressing early which sucks.  He's only 27.

OLB Kwiatkoski regressed hard.

Biggest gains this year were by RE Toone (7), WR Mckee (5), & DT Tripp (5).

FREE AGENCY

Same as always.  Going to limit my acquisitions here.

HB Bryce Love (78) - 2 year offer, $2.4 mil salary, $950k SB, $2.99 Y1 cap hit - $6.6 mil Total - ACCEPTED

- Pumphrey hasn't really done anything.  I like Love's speed.  He has Normal Dev.

2023 NFL DRAFT

I have two first round picks entering the draft this time which is exciting. The problem is they are 16th & 21, pretty deep in the round.  I think I'm going to definitely consider trading up this year in order to have a better shot of landing a star player.  I'll probably target somewhere around the 10th pick depending on how the draft goes.

Top Prospects Available
# on Board Projection Postion Name Height Weight Age Scout 1 Scout 2 Scout 3 40 Vert Broad 3cone Shuttle Bench
1 Early 1st LE Willis Middleton 6'5" 273 23 A- HP A- TAK A- PUR 1st 1st 3rd 1st 1st 5th
2 Early 1st CB Jeff Poindexter 6'0" 190 21 B+ MC B+ AWR B PR 2nd 2nd 5th 12th 10th 3rd
3 Early 1st HB Francis McBridge 5'10" 197 22 A- BC A- SPIN A- ELU 12th 2nd 3rd 2nd 2nd 8th
4 Early 1st LG Willis Spears 6'5" 322 22 A- RFNS A- RBP B+ PFNS 1st 2nd 10th 1st 4th 20th
6 Early 1st TE Greg Morley 6'3" 251 22 B+ CTH B+ CIT B SPEC 2nd 1st 6th 2nd 1st 1st

28 Early 1st TE Solomon Beachum 6'4" 254 22 B+ CTH B+ CIT B- SR 7th 2nd 3rd 3rd 2nd 4th

This looks like a strong class to me.  A ton of "Early 1st" type prospects.  I think Willis Middleton is probably the top player in the class, A- across the board and sick combine.  CB Poindexter looks like a monster too.  A couple of good TEs here, I actually like Beachum more and I expect he will fall some.  The Olineman are rated highly but none did particularly good on the bench.  WR Knight looks solid too.  ROLB Withworth is a pass coverage linebacker who could really help out my defense.

Time to start simming.

LE Middleton (78) goes #1 to the Dolphins, great pick for them.  CB Poindexter goes 2 to the Redskins, back to back good picks and good prospects.  The Lions select LG Spears (76) at 3.  TE Morley (76) goes 4th to the Lions, that is earlier than I expected.  WR Knight (73) is off the board at 5, that is a bummer I would have seriously considered moving up for him.  Maybe I lucked out since he's just 73 OVR.  OC Richardson (71) is the 6th pick to the Raiders, he wasn't on my board.  Crap, ROLB Whitworth goes #7 to the Texans.

I'm going to try to trade up here with the Eagles, I just think TE Solomon Beachum is far and away the best prospect left.

*TRADE*

PHI Eagles Receive

#21 overall

#80 overall (3)

WR Tyler Boyd (87)

CIN Bengals Receive

#8 overall

This values Tyler Boyd as a late 2nd round pick via the draft value chart, which figuring his high OVR I think is fair.  For whatever reason he isn't clicking with my offense and I'm ready to move on from him.

With the 8th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

TE Solomon Beachum, Oklahoma

Possession (76), Vertical Threat (75), Blocking (70)

Ok1mc28.jpg

Ouch.  Normal dev.  He does have good speed and catching ability.  Very frustrating, but he should start over Sample.

I'm just going to sim to 16.

The top players available are HBs and Olineman, neither of which are huge needs for me.  I'm going to consider trading down here.

*TRADE*

MIA Dolphins Receive

#16 overall

#112 overall (4)

QB Tyree Jackson (76)

CIN Bengals Receive

#33 overall pick (2)

2024 Dolphins 2nd Round Pick

I wanted to drop to the 2nd but have a high one in case some first round talent falls out of the round.  The Dolphins gave me their 2nd next year, which should be a high one.  I had to throw in backup QB Tyree Jackson, but he's entering the last year of his contract, and a 4th round pick.  The mid rounders haven't been working out for me anyways so I think this is a good deal.

Time to sim to 33.

Hmmm, there's a couple of interesting options here at 33.  That HB Francis McBridge is still available and he's listed as an Early 1st talent.  He had a good combine too, but HB isn't really a need for me.  Then there's 6'1" WR Timmy Murray who ran a 4.5 40 and was 2nd in the bench at the combine.  His 3 cone and shuttle are bad though.  He's listed as a mid 2nd talent.  Then there's 6'4" RE Akeem Hancock, a Power rusher with a Late 1st round grade.  He ran a 4.67 sec 40, 2nd in this class, and did 27 reps on the bench.

I think its clear McBridge is BPA here, but a RB?  Mixon is starting to decline.  Maybe I should just roll the dice on him.  I could flip Mixon for a high pick next year.  UGH I think I've talked myself into it.

With the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

HB Francis McBride, Tennessee

Elusive Back (78), Receiving Back (70), Power Back (60)

VeHo6Oe.jpg

Hidden dev, thank god.  His Power Back ability is not a good look, but he's listed as the 3rd best player in this class.  At 33 I think that's a steal.

I have another 2nd coming up.

Ok I'm on the clock here at 48.   Some decent talent here too.  Unfortunately that WR and DE I mentioned are gone.  But there's a CB who ran a 4.31 40 time (1st in the class), with B Press, B- Man, and C Zone as his top stats.  His 3 cone and Shuttle aren't elite though.  Then there's 5'9" Slot WR Tre"Vante Lunsford who ran a 4.43 sec 40 and average 3 cone and shuttle.  His top stats are A- Short Route, B+ Catching, and B Catch in Traffic.  He's listed as a Mid First Round value which is awesome here late in the 2nd.

I think either could be argued to be BPA here.  After dumping Boyd I think slot WR is a big need, so I'm going to go with Lunsford.

With the 48th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

WR Tre'Vante Lunsford, Tennessee

Slot (71), Deep Threat (70), Route Runner (66), Physical (64)

COmhxyA.jpg

Crap, Normal dev. He was the 18th best player in the class.  He has pretty good athleticism.  Kind of cool that he was college teammates with McBride.

On to the next pick.

I'm on the clock here in the 3rd.  There's no one that jumps off the board at me here I'm going to trade down.

*TRADE*

IND Colts Receive

#72 overall

CIN Bengals Receive

#93 overall

2024 Colts 4th Round Pick

So I drop 21 spots and pick up a future 4th.

On the clock here at 93, there are two solid players I'd like to consider.  I might try to trade up for a pick close to this and see if I can get both.

With the 8th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

WR Deveon Bartell, Tennessee State

Deep Threat (68), Slot (61), Route Runner (57)

GhfSjo5.jpg

Hidden Dev!  YES!  I needed that.  He's really raw but a good athlete.

*TRADE*

WAS Redskins Receive

#151 (5)

#156 (5)

#191 (6)

CIN Bengals Receive

#98 overall

With the 98th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

MLB Leroy Landry, Georgia Southern

Pass Coverage (64), 64 Field General (75), Run Stopper (61)

u9jpUwc.jpg

Only normal dev, I need linebacker depth though.

I have 3 picks left, one in the 5th, 6th and 7th.  Its nuts to me that there can be like 15 players left on my board in the 4th, but as soon as you hit the 5th everyone is gone.

144, 176, 208

With the 144th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select:

FS Jeremy Jeffrey, East Carolina

Zone (62), Hybrid (61), Run Support (57)

cqEVXFE.jpg

Normal dev.  He had a good combine so I new he had decent speed.  Really raw though, probably headed for PS.

6th Round Pick - traded to Steelers for 2024 5th

7th Round Pick - traded to Vikings for 2024 6th

Pretty disappointing draft, I think this was a very strong draft class and I didn't maximize the opportunity.

I'm entering Year 5 and I still haven't made the playoffs.  There isn't a ton of roster change from last year.  Rookie TE Solomon Beachum will start at TE.  I'll probably also want Rookie HB McBride to start all year so he progresses, which makes Mixon expendable.  I'm going to shop Mixon before the season starts.  I have 2 rookie WRs, not sure if either will contribute much as rookies.  The Oline remains unchanged from last year.

The defense really didn't change from last year.  The only difference in starters is I plan on starting OLB Anzalone over aging OLB Kwiatkoski.  I need most of my improvement to come from internal development of my existing players.

2024 Cardinals 2nd Round Pick

Kind of ridiculous Madden had Mixon regressing as a 27 year old.  The Cardinals starting HB is currently 81 OVR James White, and their backup is a 69 OVR.  They could really use a RB.  The Cardinals finished with a better record than me last year so I expect this will be a late 2nd.

CUTS - FINAL 53 ROSTER - YEAR 5

I have to cut 12 players, I'm probably going to rework a lot of my PS this year.

HB R Fitzgerald (65) - PS - Keeping him around for injuries.

WR E Crick (65) - PS - UDFA, Going to try to develop.

LT Damion Beckham (61) - CUT - lacks upside.

RT Antoine Simmons (60) - CUT - Also lacks upside.

RT Grant Cohen (66) - CUT - Out of PS eligibility.

DT Nate Sidney (62) - CUT - Out of PS eligibility.

LOLB Nick Kwiatkoski - CUT - He was my last cut.  He's aging and declining.  He's never made much of an impact either.  I didn't think trading him with his contract was realistic (he had over a $6 mil cap)

MLB Darius Draughn (65) - CUT - I have better options.

CB Tavarres Holloway (62) - CUT - not very good.

CB Darveon Gilbert (66) - PS - Keep developing.

FS Jeremy Jeffrey (62) - PS - Late round draft pick needs to improve.

*TRADES*

WR John Ross (79) traded to the Raiders for a 5th Round Pick.

TE Dalton Schultz (76) traded to the Steelers for a 6th Round Pick.

*FA SIGNING*

CB Marvell Tell III (77) signed to a 1-year deal.

I needed a 5th CB and Tell was cut by another team.

*INJURY*

Backup QB Timmy Nolan is injured and out for 6 weeks.  I forgot to sign a 2nd backup QB, and the CPU really annoyingly cut DE Jachai Polite and signed a QB.  The Jaguars then immediately signed Polite.  He was just depth but I had been grooming Polite for several seasons.
