DreamKid Posted January 21 Share Posted January 21 It was a fun fight, Strickland is a tough nut to crack defensively but DDP's power, pressure, spirit, and unorthodox looks helped him get through enough to stack some damage. Sean is too one dimensional on the feet and that can get him by fighters like Izzy who are happy to play that game but he'll need to mix it up more in the future. As an example, he got away from the teep that was working way too early. DDP doesn't have a great gas tank and was in his first championship rounds so sticking with that body work could've won Strickland the fight. It was somewhat reminiscent of when Forrest beat Rampage for the belt, where his diversity of attack helped him close it out. It's also fair to say Sean might've had a bad weight cut for the fight as he didn't look as fresh late. DDP also just flat out wanted it more imo. Sean essentially treats every fight/round the same and that's a good tactic to remain level headed and calm, but in this one he needed more urgency and less autopilot. MW is super fun because short of a uber grappler like Khamzat or Bo Nickal maxing out their potential, it doesn't look like anyone is going to clear out the division. Most of these guys can beat each other and we'll see some entertaining matchups in the future. Happy for Dricus, SA is a dump and putting a global spotlight on his nation and people's issues would be amazing. He's a good spokesperson for the sport at large. Agreed but it’s probably the biggest championship fight they can make atm. All the other divisions are tied up except with Welterweight, with Leon and Belal and neither have the star power you want to headline that massive event. They certainly put themselves in a weird position. Unless they have something crazy lined up it's looking like 300 won't match the hype.
