If the Cowboys lock Dak up, which I 100% think they will, I think drafting a QB in the first would be unwise. When you have a young franchise QB, you dont spend a 1st rounder on another one. I cant think of any time its ever happened in the history of the draft. The closest was Rodgers/Favre - - but Favre was older and thinking retirement. Maybe when the Cowboys drafted Aikman and then another dude in the supplemental?

Again - I am factoring in that Dak would be under contract and that we can not trade the pick. Which immediately eliminates QB/RB/OL/LB (simmons plays more than just LB) for me personally.

Injuries happen. Further, trade bait can occur.

In any event, it is fine if your big board would completely eliminate all QBs early - I just don't agree.

I am also a little shocked so many of you value a 1 year phenom who will be 24, and nearly 30 by the time of his 2nd contract is signed - especially over a (injured) prolific mobile QB.

That one year was arguably the best college football season ever in the history of college football though.... so there's that

Exactly. You aren't supposed to make a big board with need in mind.

If I have left on my board:

1. Young

2. Burrow

3. Simmons

Burrow would probably be the last guy picked of those 3 because they are all similarly rated.

But if my top guys are:

2. Burrow

24. Delpit

37. Higgins

I'm taking Burrow because now the gap is so large, need gets tossed out of the equation. Similar to us drafting Connor McGovern last year. We didn't NEED another OL. We locked up 4/5ths of them already and spent a 2nd rounder on a LG the previous year. But McGovern was so far and away the best player on the board they took him despite not having a need on OL.

So they weren't building a board thinking, no QBs, RBs, or OL...

They just built the board

The only reason to down grade Burrow at the moment would be if Dak is signed long term, imo.  No matter how likely you think it is to happen, it hasn't yet. There is still a very viable chance he's franchised..  You have to be prepared on some level.

Can you imagine if Dak is franchised, comes out and stinks it up, but you didn't give Burrow anything more than a passing glance?  You simply have to do your due diligence to make a complete and accurate board. Hell, maybe Burrow tests and interviews on an Andrew Luck / Peyton Manning level.
