OL…Josh Kline…6-3” 300lbs…

I’m not a huge fan of the Ifedi move and still feel we should be looking to increase depth and competition inside…Kline is nothing special but a solid enough OG with starting experience who we could probably get for vet min at this point...our new Ted Larsen.

I wouldn't mind Kline as a stop-gap on a 1-2 year deal. A strong dependable and disciplined player who can generate a nice push upfront on runs between the tackle which could help open up running lanes for Montgomery without getting called too often for stupid penalties.

My only problem with him is that he is strictly a mauler with little athleticism and versatility which limits what he can do as a pulling guard at the second level without help...and this is where players like Cohen and Patterson thrives more from as it allows them work more freely in open space. With him at RG, I'm afraid that we would end up in nearly the same boat as last year with what we saw with Long and Coward.

All that said though, I would still be okay with taking him on a short-term deal and keep Ifedi as a swing.

ILB…Preston Brown…6-1” 250lbs…

I really like the fact we resigned Danny-T and think Roquan could be primed to break out this season but I worry about the injury history and depth with Nick-K leaving…Brown is a thumper insider and would be a nice compliment to both our starters.

Not a fan of Preston Brown as an ILB in a 3-4 defense....especially this one. Pagano relies on his ILB's to be able to cover more athletic TE's and RB's out of the backfield and Brown is more of a run-stopping thumper in the 4-3 who lacks the coverage skills needed in a 3-4 system.

CB…Prince Amukamara…6-0” 205lbs…

I am not putting Prince in this mock in terms of depth chart but I hope we are still in contact with the guy because his market has seemed like crickets so far this offseason…if we can get him back for a great price I think we should be all over it.

I really like the thought of bringing back Prince on a much cheaper deal than the original 9M that he was set to make this year. I still think he is a good fit here opposite of Fuller as long as we can have reliable backups (Roberson/Toliver) to replace him for his inevitable nagging injuries that seemingly happen in every game.

I think the lack of interest in FA is more because teams not being able to perform physical tests right now and given his injury history there might be a bit of concern.

Ideally though, I would still like for him to compete for the starting position and not being handed to him outright.

Round 2 (#43)…

WR…Jalen Reagor…5-11” 205lbs…TCU…

Reagor is a tough pick for me but you called it with the Jackson comparison. When I first saw the name, I immediately thought of a combination of Desean and DK. Desean's ability to spread the offense and take advantage of weaker secondaries while finding open space in a defense, and DK's ability to offer more catch radius in shorter zones.

That said, I'm a bit skeptical of him because I'm not so sure that he has the physical ability to fight off tight coverage corners at the NFL level which could leave him susceptible to more physical corners/safeties who can bounce him of his routes or slow them down and that wouldn't be good in any offense that relies alot on timing routes like Nagy IMO.

For these reasons, I also would not be surprised to see him fall into the 3rd-4th round.

All in all though, I would not be fully against it. Just skeptical and a bit of a reach in the 2nd.

Bears trade #50 to Detroit for #67, #85 & #182

So we're just gonna rape Detroit now huh lol?

Nah, the trade with 50 seems fair. Bears are giving up 115 draft value in exchange for 131(+16 dif). Last year Schneider traded #37 (162) for the 47 and 77 picks (184) from Carolina (+24 dif).

We could use two 3rds --or any picks for that matter. Pace also seems to do his best work in the mid-later rounds.

Round 3 (#67)…

S…Jeremy Chinn…6-3” 220lbs…Southern Illinois…

I like the position selection but I'm not a fan of Chinn. He reminds me alot of TJ green from Clemson a few years ago.

Round 3 (#85)…

C…Nick Harris…6-1” 303lbs…Washington…

I like the outside of the box type of thinking with the idea of moving Daniels and Whitehair to both guard positions and finding a new center.

Harris could be a good fit on this OL where he's surrounded by good interior lineman that can help mask his flaws. Having a vet like Whitehair could also help out alot in training. And if he don't work out at Center, we still have 2 other lineman with experience at the position who could take over at a moments notice and move Harris inside if need be.

I haven't paid enough attention to any of the other selections to give my opinion, other than Mckeon (not a fan), so I'll withhold any judgement on the rest of them.

If we don't bring in another vet like Osemele I keep coming back to the kid from LSU (Cushenberry) as the guy we take in round two.

He's a fit versatility wise having played OC but he should be a fit at OG as well.  He's about that same size as Whitehair and Daniels but the kid has 34" arms, big strong hands, good strength to handle power NT/DT, and great leadership ability.  If we'd actually prefer to move Whitehair back to OG is seems to me this kid might be the one we could do that with.  He's ranked to go in the #40-#50 range as well.

Overview

Starting-caliber center with big hands, long arms and good core strength to match power on power when needed. Cushenberry isn't rigid or stiff, but he does have some limitations with lateral quickness, which show up against athletic edge rushers and with potential run game limitations in space. He's extremely difficult to bull-rush and is rarely beaten to the punch in his pass sets. LSU was frequently tasked with five-man protections in its passing scheme, which put Cushenberry on more of an island than he will see as a pro, so scouts should account for that. He's a do-your-job prospect with the strength to handle an odd-front nose and could be a long-time starter.

For the past 15 years, LSU has given the No. 18 jersey to players that displayed a selfless attitude and played like a Tiger. That number was worn by quarterback Matt Mauck, who led the 2003 LSU squad to its first national title in 45 years. Cushenberry was the first offensive lineman to earn the coveted number in 2019, sharing the honor with defender K'Lavon Chaisson, though NCAA rules required Cushenberry to stick with his 79 jersey (he displayed an 18 patch on his jersey). He wore that badge of honor well as a junior, garnering first-team All-SEC notice and leading the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line for all 15 games of the Bayou Bengals' national title run. He started all 13 games at center as a sophomore in 2018, one season after contributing as a reserve lineman and on special teams in 11 contests his redshirt freshman campaign. The Carville, Louisiana, native did not get a scholarship offer from LSU until the last minute, when he spurned Mississippi State.

I really like Cushenberry as well but if we want an explosive playmaker we have to pick between one of the other at #43 and right now I think the outside speed threat helps this team more.

I guess I'm just more of a build from the inside out guy Mike.  IMHO we can get speed later in the draft than we can an OL who can start this year.

Until I can see us actually having a decent downfield passing game I'm OK with having lesser WRs to fill that bill or we sign a FA to a one year deal.  I've also seen a few articles suggesting a trade for Brandin Cooks.  LA is said to want a 2nd round pick for him and while I think that might be high given his contract there's a home for your #50 pick.  The trouble is I don't how we could possibly afford him.

Normally I would build inside out as well but I think the new scheme is really going to help the guys upfront...I think we badly need someone who can take the top off a defence...I don't see any way we could afford Cooks' contract as good an addition as he would be.

Nor do I.  LA already paid his roster bonus so all that's left is his salary but that's still $8 mil and most of that money is going to Graham so we know how they feel about TE vs WR.  If we could have dumped Burton's salary that would have covered most of what we'd need for Cooks but we can't so we either draft someone or we find a cheaper FA to sign.

Mitch hasn't gotten to the point where he's dependable with his deep ball and while Foles is much better in that regard I still don't see it as a major part of this offense or we wouldn't have released Gabriel.  But even there how much did we use him as a deep threat.  In two years he had 96 receptions but averaged less than 11 ypc.  Those were the two worst years of his career in that respect.

Well it's never good when a guy who got the deal he did wants out asap.  But I would be shocked if he came here.

He was never cut. He was traded twice. And I highly doubt he is going anywhere. The crap that was going around about him being unhappy with his contract was nothing more than the media trying stir the pot all because he tweeted "free me". Which was very obvious to me about what he meant the very first time I seen it, but the media ran with it and usual the idiots on social media believe everything they read and they fell for the media trap.

It's also not really considered a "headache" when a player points out legit concerns to the staff and they agree and honor his opinion by trading him like the Saints did. He didn't just complain that he wasn't getting the touches just for the sake of not getting touches (TO, Johnson like)....he complained that he wasn't getting the touches because he believed his biggest asset was to be used more as a vertical threat and didn't think Brees had much left in his arm to get the ball down field anymore to better compliment his skill-set.

And seeing how things played out, it's almost as if they agreed with him. he left with no hard feelings and Thomas has flourished in the system that plays to his strengths within the 5-15 yard range.

The Patriots trade was more about Belichick's belief that Brady/McDaniels didn't necessarily need a WR like Cooks for the offense to succeed and so when McVay approach him with an offer he considered it and ultimately accepted it. It had nothing to do with Cooks being a locker room cancer or anything like that.

However, Cooks is not a realistic option for us anyhow so....
