This is a very weak draft class at the top.  Like very weak.  The top prospect is a scrambling 23 year old QB that I don’t even have on my draft board.

SS Harold Rabb is pretty slow, he ran a 4.58, but otherwise had a solid combine and is 21 years old.  His top 3 skills are confusing though, cause he’s a hard hitter but Man Coverage is his second skill and he’s a Hybrid safety.  So can he zone cover?  Is he an in the box Safety?  Idk what this guy is, but I know he’s slow.  CB Zach Brown is pretty solid, he’s an Early First talent, ran a 4.42 and his top skill is Man Coverage.  He’s 23 though.  SS Cordell Favors is another slow SS (4.54) with Man Coverage skills.  He’s 22.  CB Mike Burks only ran a 4.53 and he’s a Late First talent.  CB Chance Robertson ran a 4.45 but he’s 23 and a Late First talent.  CB Trae McKee ran a 4.52, but he’s a solid Mid First talent and only 22 years old.  CB Kasey Burton ran a 4.53 and is a Late First talent.  So that’s the secondary list, a lot of slow, mediocre talents.  The best of the bunch I’d say are SS Rabb and CB Mckee.  Neither are worth trading up for though IMO.

LE Alton Lawrence is 23 years old but he might be the best player in the draft.  He ran a 4.66 at 267 lbs and did 33 bench reps.  He also has his top 3 skills out of order, which I think is usually a good indicator of Hidden dev trait.  LE Clint Pritchett is a power rusher that did 23 bench reps.  He’s basically undraftable.  ROLB Zach Claiborne is a Late First talent, he’s pretty fast (4.66) with good size but he only did 23 bench reps.  He has good 3 skills as well but he would be more of a secondary option if all the top options are gone.  That’s it for edge rushers at the top of this class.  Lawrence is the clear favorite but Claiborne is a decent secondary option.

DT Walter Felder is one of the best players in this class.  He skipped the combine, which I think increases his chances of being Hidden dev.  He’s 21, good size, good 3 top skills.  Only issue is I just took a first round DT last year.  DT Ramsay is undersized, but he had a great combine and would be a solid selection in the 2nd round.

The strength of this class is in the Oline, which is great cause there hasn’t been a single good Oline class year.  RG John Evans doesn’t have the best 3 skills, but he’s 22 and did a solid 33 bench reps.  LG Jon Elliot looks better, better 3 skills, he’s 21 and had a better combine all around.  He’s a Mid 1st talent but might be the best Olineman in the class.  In competition with him is OC Dylan Miller, who is also 21, has better 3 skills, is an Early First talent, but didn’t have quite as good of a combine (he did the same 35 bench reps though).  Then there’s OC Clint Stratton, who had a better combine than Miller (and did 38 reps, more than both), is also 21, killer 3 skills, but a Mid First talent.  He’s in the 3rd round on the draft board, not sure if he’ll make it to the 2nd round or not.  If he were to fall to 33 overall I’d probably trade up for him.  There are some other solid Olineman listed as 2nd round talent as well.

Then there’s a solid QB and some WRs, but none of them are really options for me in the first.

I’m all the way at 15.  I think my top target is LE Lawrence.  I would probably have to trade WAY up to get him though.  Like top 3 pick type trade.  Not sure if I can pull that off.  I’m pretty sure trading to 1 or 2 would be impossible, so if he falls to 3 I’ll consider it.

The Chargers select SS Harold Rabb (75) #1 overall.  Crap, the Raiders select LE Alton Lawrence (76) at 2.  Ugh.

Is DT Walter Felder worth trading up for?  He'd be my 3rd First Round DT selected in this rebuild.  UGH I'm going for it.

*TRADE*

Lions Receive

#15 overall (1)

#84 overall (3)

WR Denzel Mims (81)

NY Jets

#3 overall

The Lions drop 12 spots, pick up a 3rd and a 27 year old WR with Star Dev coming off of a Pro Bowl season.

With the 3rd Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

DT Walter Felder, Georgia

Run Stopper (75), Power Rusher (75), Speed Rusher (73)

T9hRgwM.jpg

- Hidden dev!  He's super strong, but not quite as fast as I would prefer, but I'll take it.  He has great size, great balance in ability.  Should be a great starter.

I don't have any other firsts, but I'm going to stop at pick 33 and see if there's some guys worth trading up for.

Ok, so OC Dylan Miller just went off the board at pick 28.  I wonder if I shouldn't trade up here into the back up of the 1st round to make sure I get OC Clint Stratton, who's the last of the top end Oline prospects.  That would also give me a 5th year option with him.

*TRADE*

Mexico City Diablos Receive

#46 overall (2)

#113 overall (4)

RT Isaiah Wilson (75)

NY Jets Receive

#29 overall

The Diablos trade back, pick up a 4th and a new starting RT.

With the 29th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

OC Clint Stratton, FSU

Power (75), Agile (70), Pass Protector (68)

ijXoSBI.jpg

- Well crap, Normal dev.  He's a really good run blocker, will need to work on pass protection.  He will start at one of the Guard spots right away.

Ok I have one pick in the 2nd now.

Soooo QB Rykeem Armstead is the only player from my Big Board still available, and backup QB is a need. So why not?

With the 47th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

QB Rykeem Armstead, Texas A&M

Strong Arm (76), Field General (73), Improviser (71), Scrambler (70)

Vq3HVIK.jpg

- Normal dev, but a solid QB.  94 throw power is nice, he's pretty accurate.  I feel good if my starting QB goes down now.  Actually he might be worth a lot in a trade in a few years too.

On to the 3rd.  I have picks 79 & 83.

With the 79th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

CB Nathan Molden, Texas A&M

Slot (69), Man to Man (67), Zone (67)

IV9Y9Fq.jpg

- Normal dev, but he's 21 with great athleticism.  Needs to work on coverage skills but he'll be solid depth.

With the 83rd pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

OC Blaine Goldman, Alabama

Pass Protector (71), Power (70), Agile (68)

YFLWO97.jpg

- Hidden freaking dev!  Yes!  He's 21 too.  Amazing pick.  I almost traded out of this pick but figured I needed to take advantage of the solid Olineman in this class.  He's a little undersized, so probably best at Center.  Needs to work on his run blocking.

4th round time.  I have pick 111.

With the 111th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

HB Jabari Newton, Tulsa

Elusive (70), Receiving (69), Power (56)

lVBep7I.jpg

- Normal dev.  There was a Power Back I wanted that went right before this guy.  Newton is solid, he has good athleticism.  He's 23 though.  Will be solid depth.

On to the 5th.  I have picks 135 and 143.

With the 135th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

MLB Ja'Darius Reid, UCF

Run Stopper (66), Field General (64), Pass Coverage (59)

WcyuUxg.jpg

- He's a little undersized but has good speed.  Normal dev.  I may try moving him to SS and a backup in the box safety.

Traded 5th Round pick to the Patriots for a future 4th.

6th round time.  I have picks 175 & 176.

With the 175th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

FB Earnest Rhodes, California

Blocking (70), Utility (67)

onEvYGX.jpg

- Figured I'd take a stab and another FB, he's normal dev though.  He's 6'2" 260 lbs so epic size.  Bummer he isn't hidden dev.

With the 176th pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

FS John Miller, LA Tech

Blocking (70), Utility (67)

gWOdPZH.jpg

- Normal dev, I need some depth at Safety.  He's already 24 years old so not ideal.  Not the best athlete.  Probably heading to the PS.

7th Round pick traded to the Bears for a future 6th.

That wraps up this draft.  Finally got a hidden dev DT.  Found a hidden dev Center late, and Clint Stratton should be able to start too.  For what I thought was a pretty weak class I think I did pretty well.

Lots of changes on the Oline.  Eric Young moves to RG from Center, his third position in 3 years.

Due to Goldman being undersized he needs to play Center.  He will start cause he's hidden dev.

Stratton will get the start at RG.  That moves Q Hendricks from LG to backup swing tackle.

3 new starters on the Oline.

Rookie DT Felder will start at DT.

CUTS - FINAL 53 ROSTER - YEAR 5

I have to cut 9 players, some of those can head to the Practice Squad.

HB Greg Hightower (68) - CUT - He's too old for PS and I drafted his replacement.

FB Earnest Rhodes (70) - PS - Might as well carry him on the PS for now.

TE Jesse Matias (67) - CUT - he's out of PS eligibility.

RT Jimmy Simmons (67) - CUT - he's out of PS eligibility.

RE Michael Branch (67) - CUT - he's out of PS eligibility.

DT Mike Davidson (71) - PS - he might get stolen but I'm out of roster spots.

SS John Miller (66) - PS - he's 24.

*TRADE*

Washington Receives

CB Trevon Diggs (79)

NY Jets Receive

5th Round Pick

I signed Diggs for depth last year but I've drafted a bunch of CBs.

*TRADE*

Chargers Receive

LG Cody Ford (82)

NY Jets Receive

3rd Round Pick

Cody Ford is good, I've just replaced him with draft picks.  He's listed by the game as the 7th best LG in the league.
