Penny, lol.

"I'm really gutted from looking at this," he told reporters. "We look like an AAU team. It looks really bad, and I don't really understand what these guys are thinking."

Three days later, following a 67-63 loss at Ole Miss, Hardaway said the vibe in the Memphis locker room has been "miserable."

"We've got so much negativity in our locker room with veterans being jealous," Hardaway told The Athletic.

Memphis issue is that the two players they rely on the most are 17 and 18 years old when both are so raw. One is built like a stick and the other one has zero post moves and not reliable option to get you a bucket in the paint when needed. You’re not winning in college basketball with your two best players are 17 and 18 years old. Not when teams are fielding good teams with good 21 and 22 year olds. This will always been an issue with Memphis cause talent is there but not there long enough to develop

I agree with this 100 percent. Thats why you build teams to develop players instead of players having one foot out the door for the NBA.  Recruiting can only take you far.  Coaching matters more.

Their biggest issue is that they have horrible guard play. They don't have anyone that can initiate the offense or get easy looks for others. Duke won a national championship when their 3 best players were all true freshmen. But they had one of the best backcourts in the country with Jones/Cook. Memphis is 281st in non-steal turnovers, so they're basically one of the worst teams in the country when it comes to just throwing the ball away.

Penny's downfall with this team will be the fact that he let Kennedy Chandler leave Memphis and land with Tennessee. Chandler would've made this team infinitely better.

It's a mixture of both which is why the GOAT, Coach K has one in every era.

Cook, Jones and Okafor were no where near as raw as Bates and Duren are their freshmen year. Okafor was a legit post up player his freshman year who had a really good touch in the paint. Duren is as raw as they come. Can’t win with players like that.

If Marquette wins tomorrow. That would be really impressive. They already have some good wins under their belt with Illinois, Ole Miss, WV and KState. They got a chance with it being basically a home game.

They weren't but the reason Duke was elite that year was because of their guard play. Jones/Cook was the best backcourt in the country and that's what wins in college basketball, especially in March. On the season they're averaging 14 assists (139th) and 19 turnovers (dead last in the country). They've tried to put the ball in Emoni's hands but he's just not a lead guard and they have no one that can handle the ball.

Marquette has a chance, interested to see how UCLA handles their press.
