NEW ORLEANS

Offense:

1RB-4WR Base (55% Pass – 45% Run):

While we’ve listed a 4WR base, we’ll generally run a number of different personnel packages including 3WR-1TE, 2WR-2TE and 2WR-1TE-2RB sets.

In 1TE sets we’ll largely go with Higbee, while the 2TE sets will feature a mix of Gesicki, Higbee and Boyle depending on down and distance. The 2 RB sets will often feature DJ Moore lining up in the backfield, but will generally be a mix of the specialist RBs.

With the return of Michael Thomas we feel we can finally realise the true potential of our passing attack and that should be able to open our running game underneath, despite the presence of Aaron Donald and Fletcher Cox in the middle of Singapore’s D.

Passing Game:

In terms of the passing game, we’re going to keep it pretty simple and just utilise our receivers and other pass-catchers in line with their strengths. Allen’s job will be to identify which receiver is in single coverage and toss it to them. Of our top two WRs, Hopkins will be our do it all receiver, running a full route tree while Thomas will largely work underneath on slants, hitch, crossing and out routes. Parker we expect to draw single coverage quite often and because of that we’re going to be happy to send him deep more often than not and have Allen toss it up to him in 1 on 1 situations. Moore will ordinarily line up in the slot but also motion quite often, being lined up on the outside or in the backfield with the goal of getting the ball in his hands and letting him do his work after the catch. In addition to this, we’ll have Moore go deep using his 4.4 speed to mix things up and try and take advantage of a Singapore offense which may creep up to prevent the short passing & running game.

RPO, Play Action & Allen running/throwing outside the pocket:

While Singapore opted for a cover 2 man scheme last week, we expect them to incorporate more zone looks this week. While they could probably afford to do so against most teams given the strength of their interior pass-rush in the form of Cox and Donald, our plan will be to use option plays and play-action to get Allen outside of the pocket and either throwing on the run or scrambling himself to pick up consistent gains. We’ll do this in all our formations as we’re confident that all our receiving options will be able to find space given Allen will have extra time to avoid the rush and defenders at the second level will be in two minds as to whether to pursue Allen or remain in their zone.

Running Game:

The running game will feature our usual heavy rotation, with Johnson being preferred for 3rd down, Gordon at the goal-line and Moss and Singletary chipping in occasionally. As alluded to above, Allen will get a few carries as well both out of option situations or scrambling on broken down passing plays.

While we will run up the middle on occasion, our focus will obviously be to avoid Donald and Cox and run at the edges of the Singapore DL and outside them when using the RPO formations mentioned above. We’ll also sprinkle in the occasional Roman inspired look from our 2 TE sets, or 2TE-2RB sets with Moore motioning into the backfield with Allen being given the option to keep, toss, or throw it to one of the TEs who peels off.

Defense:

While Singapore brings a good stable of backs and will look to build their offense from the running game, we’re confident that we’ll be able to contain it given Simmons and Wilkins will win the interior battle against most offensive lines. While Houston has been named as a starter in our base, we plan to rotate Jones and Vernon in a fair bit to help protect him and leave him in a largely specialist role.

Winovich will see snaps as a pass-rushing specialist, in particular when we plan to send 5 rushers or are blitzing while Agim will see around 20-25% of the snaps largely spelling Wilkins and Simmons as necessary alongside Jones.

As good as Brady is, we’re comfortable that we can limit Singapore’s passing game if we can keep them in longer passing situations as Singapore’s weapons in the passing game outside of Allen and Waller are largely underwhelming.

Cover 1 Man:

We’re going to go with our usual Cover 1 man defense, with the following coverage assignments:

Waller out wide:

Gilmore – Allen
Bradberry – Waller
JC Jackson – Shenault
Kareem Jackson – Beasley
Oluokun – Running Back

Waller in-line:

Gilmore – Allen
Bradberry – Shenault
JC Jackson – Beasley/WR3
Kareem Jackson – Running back
Oluokun - Waller

With Byard as the deep safety in both and Johnson taking away the underneath middle or blitzing.

Bradberry is used to dealing with larger receivers (Julio + MT + Evans) so we’re confident he’ll be able to take on the larger Waller. Recent history has shown that physical CBs do quite well against TEs in coverage.

Note: Should Gilmore be ruled out, it will be as follows:

Bradberry – Allen
JC Jackson – Shenault
Kareem Jackson - Beasley
Hyde – Waller
Oluokun – Running back

SINGAPORE

Motivation - Continue the home winning streak and send the Jazz marching home with a loss.

Offensive Strategy

Formations:  3-4 WR (70%)/ 2 TE (15%)/ 2 RB (15%)
Scheme:  Pass (60%) vs Run (40%)

Rushing
Hunt will get the start this week. CEH and Conner will spell him and Conner will handle short yardage/goal line plays. Hunt and CEH are threats both in the run game and passing game out of the backfield or in the slot. We will use outside zone runs to stretch the Jazz DL out and set up the pass for Brady with some play action. The versatility of our offensive weapons allows them to line up in multiple spots and give Brady a quick out to move the ball.

We are dialing back the 21 personnel this week and mainly will use the second RB in motion into the slot or occasionally a Jet Sweep. OW Shenault will get a few plays sprinkled in this week to use his ability to break tackles and get tough yards to keep the chains moving. We will be using more 2 TE sets this week to run behind as well.

Passing
We are continuing to open up the passing game this week. The Jazz are hurting in the secondary and we will spread them out so get favorable matchups with LB’s on WR’s. Starting out in a base 11 personnel of 3 WR, Keenan Allen, Mecole Hardman along with slot WR Cole Beasley to be Tom’s main weapons this week. We know this passing game runs through Allen and Waller but Hardman has earned more playing time. He is a playmaker that can take it to the house on any play.

Tom will assess the defense and use his incredible processing power to get the ball out quickly. Beasley and Hardman are both solid intermediate targets that have the capability to make the most with their catches. In 4 WR sets Darnell Mooney brings speed, speed, speed,  to go along with Allen and Hardman’s route running skills. Hardman and Mooney stretch the field for deep shots to keep the Jazz on their toes. In 2 TE sets Darren Fells can be an extra blocker or RedZone target. Miller rounds out the receiving Corps to give the other guys some rest from running up and down the field on the Jazz.

Defensive Strategy

Formation:  4-2-5 Defense / 3-3-5 / 3-2-6
Our main defensive formation will consist of the 4-2-5 (Nickle). In my opinion, this formation is putting our best 11 on the field thus giving our defense the best chance to dismantle Josh Allen.

Rush Defense
The Jazz like to rotate their backs and Allen is a threat to run too, so we obviously will prepare to stop the run. On the whole, the Jazz are around 4.0 YPC this season so not world beaters in the run game. Aaron Donald and Fletcher Cox clog the middle and get penetration this week to collapse the pocket on Allen. KPL will keep an eye on Allen as he is a threat to run. Van Ginkel will come off the bench if New Orleans goes run heavy in 12 or 22 personnel. Nichols will rotate in to keep our dynamic interior duo fresh.

Pass Rush
Haason Reddick and Preston Smith will set the edges and we will be dialing up blitz packages this week to force Allen to throw quickly and not give his receivers time to develop their routes. So we’ll look to exploit things by keeping the pressure on for the bulk of the game with a safety blitz or the LB spying on Allen putting pressure on him as well. The depth off the bench in Quinn and Golden will make sure that Allen has no time and nowhere to run all day.

Pass Defense - Scheme:  Cover 2 Man
Hopkins is the clear WR1 and will draw coverage from Kyle Fuller with help from John Johnson over the top. We beat Hopkins two weeks ago when he had a better QB throwing to him and a better cast of weapons. We are confident that our secondary is up to the task of preventing this passing game from developing. A gimpy Michael Thomas will have to run his slant routes with Dunbar covering him in press coverage. Jonathan Jones will lock down DJ Moore in the slot. Lonnie Johnson will have deep coverage this week with relief from Ryan Neal and Shawn Williams.

Coverage Assignments:
·        DeAndre Hopkins / Kyle Fuller - CB + John Johnson S
·        Michael Thomas/ Quinton Dunbar - CB
·        DJ Moore / Jonathan Jones - CB
·        Tyler Higbee / Deion Jones - LB
·         -------------------------------------

I actually think Singapore’s DBs matchup nicely here. Josh Allen did have a great day with less at WR though.

Really? If Thomas looks even remotely healthy that matchup gets ugly and quick.

Fenton gets smoked by Parker too in 1v1 coverage.

If thats called matching up well, I'd hate to think what a healthy Gilmore, Bradberry, Bouye and JC Jackson will do to offenses.

Speaking of Gilmore, he's been ruled out @Ragnarok

Good to know. I hadn’t watched that game but Dunbar looked better than this earlier in the season. Also Thomas just runs slants. We don’t need you to counter hype your own players.

GG @WFLukic

I've got a chance with none of your RB's getting more that 18 yards this week. but barring a Brady comeback we'll see how it goes.

Yeah I haven't read the gameplans yet so we shall see if that balances out with how bad Brady was. Mw personally, its more about what I believe Brady is capable of rather than what he did specifically against the saints.

I actually like the reverse, even with Gilmore out. Dunbar probably shouldn't have been on the field Sunday, as he looked pretty bad, there's just no way he's actually healthy.

Again I hadn’t seen the game but had seen Other games of his play this year
