Ok so we've got some big changes this year. First off, Magnus Sundin has arrived, he's the new starting Center for the Detroit Pistons.  He's done some growing up overseas.  Not only is he my highest OVR player, but he's got some solid skills to match.  For reference he was drafted like this:

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
9 C Magnus Sundin 7'0" 270 7'4" Sweden 75^2 A

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B B- C- B+ D- D D+ C A

Now he looks like this:

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
  C Mangus Sundin 7'0" 270 7'4" Sweden 85 A

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
A A+ B- A+ D C- B+ B+ B+

Quite the development. To go along with this he has 73 SPD, 64 ACC, 94 STR, 73 VERT, which are all solid for his size.

Then are his badges.  He now has: Backdown Punisher (Silver), Off Ball Pest (Gold), Brick Wall (Silver), Moving Truck (Silver), Post Move Lockdown (Silver), Tireless Defender (Silver), Trapper (Silver), Lightning Reflexes (Bronze).

He's a really good player.

Then I moved Vernie from SG to PG.  I kind of always thought he would end up at PG and I think its time.  Pushing Elliot to the bench brings SG Madison into the starting lineup, which gives my starters another long range shooter.

I'm going to trade Forbes, I need to get his contract off of my books.

*TRADE*

Pelicans Receive

C Willard Forbes (81)

2030 2nd Round Pick

Pistons Receive

C Chris Boucher (78)

2032 Pelicans 1st Round Pick (unprotected)

So the Pelicans were 3rd in the West last year, so this probably doesn't project to be a high pick but its two years in the future so you never know.  Besides this is more about ridding me of Forbes' salary.  Boucher is expiring, I will probably just cut him.

TRADE DEADLINE UPDATE

I'm currently 32-22, which is 3rd in the East and 6 games out of first place.  Only 6 games ahead of the 9 seed though so its a tight race. Kerimoglu is expiring, and I don't think I will be able to afford to retain him, but I need him for depth for the playoffs so I'm going to hang on to him.  No trades at the deadline this year.

End of the Season – Year 8

Final Record 46-36, 4th place in East, and 10 games out of first place.  So I had the #2 seed last year but I actually won 3 more games.  That's with Vernie getting injured too so not bad.

Season Stats

Season Stats - Year 8
Points Per Game Rebounds Per Game Assists Per Game Steals Per Game Blocks Per Game
SG Alec Vernie 23.8 C Magnus Sundin 10.6 PF Tom Arthur 4.8 SF Samuel Rose 1.4 PF Tom Arthur 2.0
C Magnus Sundin 20.2 PF Tom Arthur 8.6 PG Alec Vernie 3.6 PG Donte Elliot 1.3 C Magnus Sundin 1.8
SG Antonio Madison 17.5 SF Samuel Rose 5.3 PG Donte Elliot 3.1 PF Tom Arthur 1.2 PF Omer Kerimoglu 0.6

Vernie's scoring was down but that's because of injury.  I don't think I've had another player average over 20 points since drafting Vernie so Sundin was a big boost, Madison's scoring was up too. Sundin didn't have as many rebounds as Forbes but he had significantly more blocks.  Arthur's rebounds and blocks were up too.

My team was 9th in points scored per game, but #1 in the NBA in points allowed! Best defense in the league.

Summary

This was a 1 point game until the end when I had to start fouling to extend the game.  There are a lot of backstories to this matchup. First, my starting PG Donte Elliot was drafted by the Pacers but they traded him to me later on after they drafted PG Radoslav Bilic.  Not only is Radoslav Bilic really good but he has a ridiculous moustache.

hEWiAMd.jpg

Radoslav definitely got the best of Elliot in this battle of the ex teammates matchup.  Then there's C Precious Achiuwa, who I groomed into a starting caliber Center but didn't want to extend.  The Pacers signed him and he completely destroyed me in this game.  That is not a typo he had 32 point and 32 rebounds, plus 8 assists.

This was a very hard first matchup for rookie Center Magnus Sundin.  He was solid but didn't make a huge impact. He's bigger than Precious but let him dominate him on the boards. I need him to step up if I'm going to win this series.

PF Tom Arthur had a good game scoring 34 points but his 6 rebounds were underwhelming.  He's faster than their PF so I was able to drive past him a bunch for easy dunks.

SG Madison ran most of the first team offense with Vernie out. He had a solid 32 points and 16 assists, plus hit 8 three pointers.  No one else on my team made a 3 pointer.....
