A Post June 1 greatly frees up 2022 though - looks like by over $6 million. Small effect in 2023 too.

His salary is still fully guaranteed. If they cut him after June 1st, they would end up saving a measly $218,750 dollars (yes, less than a quarter million) in cap space and then push all of the future dead cap into dead years. Nothing is gained doing that from a cap perspective, so might as well keep him on the roster since he's a sunk cost at this point. Now, if he keeps giving you trouble, maybe you revisit this from the perspective of washing your hands of bad PR.

If you are using OTC, keep in mind that the "post june cut" option shows what happens if you do it that year. So, the June cut numbers in 2022 are what would happen if they cut him next year.

Collins stays at "safety" and WFT plays lots of three safety looks with Collins walked down into the box.  Everybody is happy =P

Yeah, which means Collins will be playing like a dime LB. A 3rd safety who plays a lot in the box is essentially the same as a WLB in today’s NFL. At this point people seem to be agreeing on how they’ll use Collins, they just don’t want to call him a LB which is whatever to me. I think his role this year will be more similar to a LB than it will be to a safety.

Collins is all but gone after this year. Perhaps this franchise should start thinking long term instead of just one year at a time like it’s seem to have done for 20 years.

Pretty much any player we draft in the 1st would be long term thinking too...

Welcome to the Collins is a bust club.

Well of course any player we draft in the 1st would be long term thinking as well, that’s my point. It’s not like we don’t need LBs and it’s not like even if Collins does make the switch to WLB that we can count on him coming off a torn achillies. We all know we can’t count on Collins being 100% healthy next year, that he’ll be the same player or that it work out that they can find a role that he can excel at on the D now bc they played their best football on D w/o him last year.

As far Collins’s future maybe, let’s see what he does this year. It’s more likely than not that this doesn’t work out and Collins is gone after year but it all remains to be seen.
