onejayhawk
This is not your usual article. It's about an undrafted player ST who has been drawing heat. Trust Toub to know who is effective. we have some rookie contracts expiring soon and ST depth is necessary. https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/1/13/22882634/chiefs-coach-dave-toub-stands-by-defensive-back-zayne-anderson-after-costly-penalties I am putting this here for lack of a good place. Once again Ryan Poles is a hot commodity. Both Poles and OC Bieniemy are expected to draw a lot of interest.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2022/01/13/minnesota-vikings-request-interview-kansas-city-chiefs-executive-ryan-poles-gm-job/ Edited January 14, 2022 by onejayhawk
onejayhawk
This is a sad one. A fairly recent Chief, DT Junior Savaii, was found dead in a Leavenworth medium security prison. He was 43.https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2022/01/14/former-chief-cowboy-junior-siavii-dies-in-prison-at-43/
onejayhawk
No players made first team All-NFL, but three make the All-AFC team--Tyreek Hill, Chris Jones, and Creed Humphrey. I suspect Humphrey will be an All-NFL regular after this year.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-pfwa-all-afc-team-tyreek-hill-creed-humphrey-chris-jones/ No surprise that Bolton, Smith, and Humprey all made 1st team All-Rookie. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2022/01/26/kansas-city-chiefs-creed-humphrey-trey-smith-nick-bolton-named-to-pfwa-all-rookie-team-2021/ Footnote: Smith and Humphrey are only the third pair of rookies in team history to start all the games. I drafted him in a 3-year GM mock to the Saints, glad to see he's shaping up. Trey Smith is a beast. He started every game as a rookie, to the point that Laurant Duverney-Tardif was traded to the Jets. LDT has a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs but he lost his starting job to Smith. He's not only All-Rookie 1st team he's also a Pro-Bowl alternate as a rookie. J
onejayhawk
Tyrann "The Landlord" Mathieu was named Derrick Thomas Award winner for the second time. This si the teams version of MVP.https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/chiefs_name_tyrann_mathieu_derrick_thomas_mvp_award_winner/s1_16631_37218883 Nick Bolton was named Mack Lee Hill Award winner, essentially Rookie of the Year.https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/nick_bolton_wins_chiefs_mack_lee_hill_rookie_of_the_year_award/s1_16631_37218532
onejayhawk
Nick Shook rated the 2021 draft as an A. In 2020 the class of CEH, Dana, Sneed, Wharton, and Thompson graded out as B+.https://www.nfl.com/news/2021-nfl-rookie-grades-afc-west-chiefs-broncos-hit-the-jackpot J

Leatherwood stunk up the joint from what I saw/read and outside of Moehrig they didn't get much production elsewhere 🤷 Edited February 17, 2022 by Chiefs_5627 Took me a few tries to spell that name correctly 🤦
onejayhawk
Leatherwood will be a fine OG, maybe even Pro-Bowl. Moehrig was one of my draft targets and Deablo was a find toward the end of Day #3. All that said, no one gets worse on draft day. onejayhawk
This article reviews Trey Smith's season. Since he is one of the best rookies taken on day #3, much less the 6th and 7th rounds, it's a subject worth investigating. Smith is the last drafted so first listed.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-trey-smith-rookie-season-review-future-outlook/?itm_source=parsely-api Wire already did three UDFA. They have been psted here.
onejayhawk
Next up is Noah Gray who had a nice rookie season for a round #5 pick. He played in 16 games, primarily on ST, started one, with seven receptions and a TD. At that, a lot of his potential playing time went to FA acquisition Austin blythe who proved to be an excellent signing. In additon to being an excellent ST player, Gray excelled at pass blocking.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-noah-gray-rookie-season-review-future-outlook/
onejayhawk
This is a review of how Veach handled the 2021 defense. Bear in mind that the OL took priority. There is a link to an article on that.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/2/21/22943472/in-2021-brett-veach-took-gambles-to-repair-the-defense
