This is my new draft board.  Its getting late so I won't get to draft tonight, freaking board took forever.  I have picks 22, 29, 54 & 63 in the first two rounds.  So that begs the question do I want to move up for Toon?  Is a 23 year old Safety worth a first round pick? Or do I stay where I am and target something like LG Lashley and WR Dunn in the first?  Gotta think this over tonight.

The prospects that caught my eye that you have on your BB are:
Jose Hyde - SS - 23 Y.O. : 23 years old is a bummer, but the intangibles are there. A awareness, A catch, B zone coverage, C.O.D. is nice, height is good weight is ok, fastest SS in the draft. I would probably be comfortable spending a 1st on him assuming you have a need. (#29 would work IMO)
Zac Anthony - OC - 22 Y.O. : Appears to be well rounded. 6'4 310 is good size and height for a center, especially considering he was top 3 in every category for skills. He looks like he could be a solid building block and it looks like he can be had in the 2nd round or 3rd round. (Maybe #63 overall)
Callum Feldman - ROLB - 22 Y.O. : He looks like a stud. A zone coverage, A awareness, 1st speed, 3rd jump, good C.O.D. because of the 3-cone and shuttle. If you opt to take Zac Anthony early or not at all, Callum makes sense for #63 IMO as well.
Not sure what to do with the #22 overall though. You could take a shot at the RB with the good speed, but he doesn't look he is a 3 down back because his stamina is D amongst other RBs. You could also take a shot in the dark with the other prospects in the draft. Sometimes you can get lucky even with little info.

*Edit* Toon looks like a solid pick as well, but what cost are you willing to do to get up to #6? It may be a question if the quality of one is better than the quantity of others of equal or lesser (possibly better) quality.

2028 NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-image.jpg

Draft board time.

I’m not sure I have any real “needs” on the roster so I’m probably just looking for BPA everywhere.

A new starter at QB isn’t a need, but my backup is 29 years old so I’ll consider QBs that should be available after the first round. The mock only has one QB going in the first anyways (also he’s 23 years old with Solid Throw Power). Edward Frazier is a Round 3-4 prospect with Great TP, he’s a statue though. And that’s it, weak QB class.

The top HB Clyde Batten has some weak Skills but is super fast with a 4.39 in the 40 at the combine, and a 4.33 at his pro day. He’s projected to go in the first round (28th) so would be a huge luxury pick. Streets, the other projected first round HB is terrible.  Leo Ross isn’t amazing but he’s a power back which is something I don’t really have.  He’s a projected round 2-3 prospect. Reggie Leonard is very similar. Will Irving is another power back that should be available late on Day 3.

No fullbacks worth drafting.

WR Xavier Rhodes is huge but slow. WR Trey Richardson is pretty legit though. Ran a 4.48 with top level acceleration but he’s projected to go Top 5. I don’t need another WR that badly so he’s not going on my board. Addison Dunn looks like a pretty decent slot WR option.  He’s projected to go one pick ahead of mine so I’d probably have to move up slightly for him. Alec Carter is a Day 3 prospect who isn’t amazing but is draftable. Chase Atkinson is only 21, ran a 4.39 and has Elite acceleration.  I need to take him on Day 3, maybe even at the back end of Round 3.

TEs Sheppard and Moreland are both legit prospects but are projected to go in the 1st.  I just took Streets in the first last year so I’m going to pass on a 1st round TE this year. TE Matt Looman is 23 years old but he’s huge and has B run block.  Finding a run blocking TE is hard in this years Madden, although I’m not thrilled with the idea of taking a 23 year old TE in the 3rd round.  Bart Joyner is like the size of an offensive lineman.  He had a solid combine but his Skills look weak. At 21 years old though he could make a decent development project. Jeremy Stocker had a good combine but looks really raw, Day 3 prospect.

LT Benjamin Malone looks solid, not amazing but solid.  He will likely go in the first 10 picks in the 2nd round. He’s the only draftable LT.

LG Roderick Lashley isn’t super athletic but he’s really strong and has great skills.  He’s also massive.  He was a projected Top 10 pick in the first mock draft of the year but in the most recent one he’s not even in the first round.  He’s still the #12 overall prospect though. Not sure what that means but he’s definitely in consideration for my 1st round pick. He’s really the only decent LG.

Centers are usually the best Oline prospects the cpu generates. Zac Anthony isn’t super strong but is otherwise very athletic and has decent skills. He’s a projected 2nd round prospect. I know nothing about Brandon Eckel cause he skipped the combine, but that used to mean possible hidden dev. He’s 21 years old and will likely go in the 3rd.

There are no RGs worth drafting.

Or RTs.

In general feels like a pretty weak draft for offensive talent. Main targets for me would be LG Lashley, WR Richardson, and some depth at TE.

LE Bo Carrington isn’t very strong but he has decent speed and B finesse moves.  As a Round 3-4 prospect he could be decent depth at DE.

RE BJ Toon looks like an absolute monster physically.  He’s a little raw skill wise but he should develop into an animal.  He’s projected to go #6 overall so I’d have to move way up for him, plus I’d basically have to ditch McGowan. I have him 100% scouted and he’s a “Round 1” talent, not Top 5, so he will likely be 72-75 overall. McGowan’s 85 ovr but still just Star dev, he’s 26 years old, and his Power Rusher and Run Stopper skills are both below 80. He’s coming off of a 9 sack season which is the highest of his career. If I were going to go after Toon it would make sense to trade McGowan to get up in the Top 5. James Amaya is a Day 3 prospect that is raw but had a good combine. Wow Mike Locke looks like a homerun late, definitely need to pick him up in Round 4, maybe Round 3.

All of the first round projected DTs are legit prospects but I don’t need a starter at DT.  Cole Fender isn’t strong but he’s fast and has decent skills. He’s a Round 2-3 prospect. Devin Johnson is another good prospect in Rounds 2-3. Henry Best should be available Day 3, he’s just a run stuffer but could make solid depth. Marquise Holt is similar, run stuffer only but did 41 bench reps. And add Keenan James to that late round run stuffer list. He might be a little quicker though.

There are no LOLBs worth drafting.

MLB Barry Jacobs is a really good prospect.  Ran a 4.48, 23 reps, 1st in 3 cone, 3rd in shuttle. Linebacker isn’t a first round need though. Bryan Curry is a late Day 3 prospect who’s raw but had a good combine.

ROLB Ty Minor is already 23 years old but he’s a solid athlete and looks to be good in coverage. He’s a round 2-3 prospect. Callum Feldman might actually be better.

CB Malik Jackson is good, but not trade up into the Top 5 for good. In fact you can say that for all of the top 4 CBs that are projected ahead of my pick.  Of all of them Chris Byars is probably the best combine, but he doesn’t have the best skills. Corner isn’t really a first round need unless one of them could convert to FS, which none of them can. Antoine Palmer should be available in the 2nd and had a solid combine. I don’t known either of his coverage ratings though. Tyrell Florence had a great combine but looks really raw, Day 3 prospect.

FS Darrell Patterson had a good combine but I know nothing about his zone coverage. He’s a Day 2-3 prospect, might be worth the gamble. Derrick Winslow is a solid Day 3 prospect.

SS Jose Hyde is 23 years old, but he looks really good.  Amazing skills and good combine, he could possibly be a new starter at FS. He’s projected to go 32 overall so he’d have to be a first round pick though, not ideal to take a 23 year old in the first. If he’s not Hidden Dev that could be a disaster of a pick.

I don’t need a Kicker or Punter.

That wraps the defense. Big decisions need to be made about RE Toon and SS Jose Hyde.

I don't think I'm going to move up for Toon.  McGowan seemed to improved last year and if I brought in Toon I think for this upcoming season he'd be a step down. I'm trying to compete for a Super Bowl this year so that's not ideal.

That means I'll be targeting LG Lashley, WR Dunn & SS Hyde in the first.  I have no idea when Lashley might go as he's currently mocked out of the first round but was previously mocked as a top 15 prospect. Dunn's also projected to go slightly ahead of my current picks. Hyde I could stay put and draft but again I'm not thrilled with the idea of a 23 year old first round pick.

I also have entirely too many picks so I'll probably move up in the draft several times.

Time to start the draft.

The Chargers select WR Xavier Rhodes #1 overall.  He's not super fast but he's huge.  The Steelers select the top CB, Malik Jackson, at #2. The Cardinals take QB Alex Davis which doesn't make a lot of sense considering they already have Kyler Murray (who's still only 31 years old) and they took another QB #2 overall just two years ago.  Granted he's only normal dev but its still a weird pick. The Colts take RG Colin Peerman at 4 and WR Trey Richardson goes 5 to the Texans. RE BJ Toon is off the board at 6 to the Falcons.  I hope he's not an X Factor. SS Tracey Harris goes to the Football Team at 7. The Jets take WR Donovan Keyes 8th, WR Tyron Fowler is the Saints pick at 9, and MLB Barry Jacobs rounds out the top 10 to the Rams.

I think I'm going to sim to around 15 and then make a move up.

Ok I'm at pick 15 and LG Lashley and WR Dunn are both still on the board.

Patriots Receive

#22 overall (1)

#106 overall (4)

#150 overall (5)

Lions Receive

#15 overall (1)

With the 15th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LG Roderick Lashley, Washington State

Power (72), Agile (70), Pass Protector (66)

qK1xpyb.jpg

- Hidden Dev! He's 6'6" 334 lbs so I'm probably going to move him to RT to compete with Smith for the starting spot this year.  Long term I hope he replaces Sewell.

Alright so Dunn's mocked to go 21st, I'll probably trade up to around 18th to get him.

*TRADE*

Ravens Receive

#29 overall (1)

SS Ben James (83 OVR)

Lions Receive

#18 overall

The Ravens #1 is Safety and Ben James lost his starting spot to rookie SS Cage last year.  He's 28 years old and deserves to start somewhere so this trade gets him to someone who can use him.  I'm going to take Dunn here but moving James opens up a roster spot for me to trade up and take Hyde as well.

With the 18th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

WR Addison Dunn, Auburn

Deep Threat (75), Slot (74), Route Runner (73), Physical (71)

YA7UgUW.jpg

- Ouch normal dev. He has 90 Speed too which is ok but not amazing. He should be a solid slot WR but I don't see how he's much of an upgrade over what I already have at that spot.

Bummer.  I probably should have just stayed at 28 and taken Hyde.  Now I need to move up again to somehow land Hyde.

*TRADE*

Browns Receive

RG Mitch Williams (77)

#87 overall (3)

#182 overall (6)

Lions Receive

#28 overall (1)

Williams has been with me for 4 years and has never gotten a chance to start since he's stuck behind better players. RG is the Browns biggest need so this helps them out quite a bit.

With the 28th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

SS Jose Hyde, LSU

Hybrid (77), Zone (77), Run Support (75)

SthTvYD.jpg

- Yikes.  Normal dev.  23 years old.  He's a great athlete but he's probably a career backup for me.  I was hoping he could take over the starting role at FS.  Guess not.

I might move up again early in the 2nd just to secure some better talent.  The question is who to move up for. HB Batten has fallen out of the first round but he's another speed back, which I have multiple of those on the roster already. HB Leo Ross is a power back that would give me something different at the position. Hardwick's coming off of a good rookie season though so neither of those guys would start. LT Malone is pretty good but Oline depth isn't a huge need. CB Palmer looks good but I like all 6 CBs I currently have on my roster. Not sure if there's a roster spot for Palmer. DT Cole Fender fills my biggest need for dline depth but I could probably stay where I'm at and take him. I have too many draft picks though, I should just consolidate them to get a better quality prospect here.

Chargers Receive

With the 33rd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LT Benjamin Malone, Tennessee

Pass Protector (70), Agile (70), Power (69)

tfybUHm.jpg

- Hidden Dev! I just thought he was BPA.  My embarrassment of riches along the Oline continues.  Not sure what I'll do with a Hidden dev backup. I guess I'll build him up for a few years then flip him for a first round pick down the line. Of course if he's a superstar and Lashley is just a Star it might get more interesting.

Ok I don't pick again till later in the 2nd but I don't see the point in trading up again here.

CB Palmer was selected by the Texans. Wow HB Batten dropped to the 9th pick of the 2nd round, to the Saints. HB Ross was selected by the Packers. ROLB Minor goes to the Dolphins. I liked him but he was another 23 year old.

Ok I'm on the clock with pick 54.

The top players available are HB Leonard, DT Fender, OC Anthony and a pair of linebackers in Benson and Feldman.  I think I'm going to take Fender here then trade up again to try to land Feldman.  I really like Anthony but I don't really have any more room on my roster for another olineman.

With the 54th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

DT Cole Fender, Notre Dame

Run Stopper (71), Speed Rusher (68), Power Rusher (65)

7e4LTUE.jpg

- Normal dev.  That's ok he's a depth pick anyways. 79 SPD, 86 STR, 82 ACC is pretty good.

I'm going to sim a few picks then try to trade back up.

HB Leonard goes with the next pick to the Broncos. OC Anthony is selected by the Browns.

Ok I'm at the top of the 3rd round now.  I think I'm going to move up for Feldman.

*TRADE*

Chargers Receive

RE Will McMullen (76)

Lions Receive

#65 overall (3)

I don't want to get rid of all my later picks so I traded them McMullen instead. The Chargers current starter at RE is only 73 OVR so McMullen will likely get to start for them.

With the 65th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

ROLB Callum Feldman, Ohio State

Speed Rusher (70), Run Stopper (70), Pass Coverage (69), Power Rusher (65)

CLx87g6.jpg

- Hidden Dev! Sweet.  88 SPD, 90 ACC, 91 AG is legit.  Gives me some coverage linebacker depth.

I've got another pick later in the 3rd.  If that QB Frazier drops I'll probably take him.

DT Devin Johnson, FS Darrell Patterson, OC Brandon Eckel, LOLB Quandre Benson, QB Edward Frazier, LE Bo Carrington, TE Matt Looman are all taken before my pick.

I'm on the clock.

With the 86th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

TE Bart Joyner, New Mexico

Possession (68), Vertical Threat (66), Blocking (57)

3NPDNzs.jpg

- Normal dev.  82 SPD, 85 ACC, 77 STR is solid for a TE.  He's raw but he's huge with 6'6" 273 lb size.  I'm hoping to make him into a backup blocking TE.

I don't pick again till the 4th round.

With the 111th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

RE Mike Locke, Georgia

Speed Rusher (71), Power Rusher (65), Run Stopper (63)

6Jgdy67.jpg

- Normal dev. 86 SPD, 88 ACC 82 STR is great though. He will be solid depth.

Time for the 5th round.

With the 130th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

MLB Bryan Curry, Butler

Pass Coverage (66), Field General (65), Run Stopper (65)

FiCB8DV.jpg

- Normal dev.  More linebacker depth.  He's a good athlete, 89 SPD, 87 ACC.

I think I'm going to move up for that WR Chase Atkinson then call it on this draft.

*TRADE*

Cardinals Receive

#174 overall (6)

#214 overall (7)

#223 overall (7)

Lions Receive

#131 overall (5)

With the 131st Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

WR Chase Atkinson, Oklahoma

Deep Threat (69), Slot (66), Route Runner (63), Physical (60)

iVAHxmu.jpg

- Normal dev. 92 SPD, 95 ACC.  Was hoping for a little faster but he's quick.

That wraps up this draft class.

Looks like I won't have any new starters this year. Lashley is a little more raw than I thought he would be. Dunn will likely be my new Slot WR. Hyde gives me some versatility in the secondary as he can backup Safety and CB.

CUTS

I have to make 6 cuts.  If they have PS eligibility they will head there.

TE B Joyner (68) - PS

LT S Newkirk (69) - PS (he will likely get stolen)

DT M Adams (67) - PS

*TRADE*

Cowboys Receive

MLB Blaine Hagans (78)

WR Deron Lawrence (77)

Lions 2029 2nd Round Pick

Lions Receive

Cowboys 2029 1st Round Pick

Lawrence has been a productive WR for me and is coming off of a 1,000+ yard season, but I need to give Dunn his snaps. The Cowboys MLBs are awful and Hagan will start for them.  Basically just flipping my 2nd which should be near the end of that round (hopefully) for their first.

*TRADE*

Buccaneers Receive

WR Eddie Hannon (76)

Lions Receive

Bucs 2029 3rd Round Pick

Hannon is a solid player I just ran out of roster spots. He will be the Bucs 3rd best WR on their roster. He was a former 2nd round pick so this isn't a great return for him.
