2027 NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-image.jpg

Draft board time.

QB Max Searles doesn’t have a great arm but he won the Heisman so he might have a dev trait. He’s also already 23 years old.  He might be worth a shot as a backup QB but he’s not anything amazing. There are no other draftable QBs.

HB is not a first round need but Tavarius Harris is pretty good. I’d basically be benching Walls if I drafted him though. Ralph Booth is solid, should be available in Round 2.  He’s another speed back though. Mack Hardwick is also another solid speed back in Round 2. Anthony Beal is a decent power back option on Day 3.

WR also is not a first round need. However, if I was going to take one Brian Clements is pretty good.  The top WR is listed as the going #1 overall but his combine sucked so I don’t get it. Dennis Gibson skipped the combine but had a pretty decent pro day.  I think he has a good chance of being Star dev since he skipped the combine and he could make a decent slot WR, he’s a late 2nd round type prospect. Warren McFadden is another solid Round 2-3 guy, but he’s tiny. If I want to take someone on Day 3, Bret Erickson could make a decent depth pick. He has good size and is a solid athlete.

TE Tavares Street looks like a legit stud in the first round. He’s mocked to go 23rd so I could land him with a slight trade up from pick 25. Dylan Johnston looks ok, but Street is better in pretty much every way. Carson Kincaid could be a decent Day 3 pick.

There are two LTs listed as top 10 picks in the mock and both are really mediocre. Jordan McLane is a Round 3-4 prospect, really raw but a really good athlete.  Could make a solid depth pick but at 6’4” might be better at Guard. Harry Starkey is another good prospect in Round 3-4.

LG Chris Roberts is a Round 2-3 prospect, is 21 years old and isn’t a lights out athlete but has good attributes (from what I know).

OC Martin Cantwell is the top Center in the class, and per usual for this position he looks legit. He should be available in the 2nd round and is a stud.  However, I expect he will go very high in the 2nd and Oline isn’t a need for me. Martin Jennings also looks legit and may be available in the 3rd. Matt Depofi is draftable as a Day 3 prospect. Larry Dwyer looks pretty fantastic for a Day 3 prospect.  He might even be worth a 4th round pick.

RG Marcus Hutchins has good attributes for a Day 3 prospect.

There are no draftable RTs.

Pretty solid oline draft, otherwise I’m not really blown away by the prospects on offense in this class.

LE Jabari Bazley looks pretty solid. However, if I drafted him I’d have to bench McGowan which still feels too soon. I could use some depth at DT, and at 311 lbs Matt Adams could make a great conversion there. He’s also a pretty good athlete for a Day 3 prospect.  Wow, Alex Price is an amazing athlete for a Day 3 dlineman. He’d be worth a 4th round pick.

There are no REs worth drafting.

DT Lamarcus Henley looks pretty good but a first round DT isn’t really a need. Most of the later round DTs are 23 & 24 years old.  If I want to target a backup DT I need to go after LE Matt Adams.

The top LOLB is Scottie Scarborough who’s projected to be a top 5 overall pick.  He’s pretty solid  but linebacker is not a need at all so he’s not going on my board. Nick Walton is also a projected first and is good, but again don’t need a linebacker this early. JaMichael Cason is a Round 2-3 prospect, he’s pretty good but I’d probably need him to fall to the 3rd before seriously considering him.

MLB Von Jackson is a pretty good athlete for a Round 3-4 prospect. He’s pretty small though. Emanuel Lawton is a decent Day 3 prospect, another undersized guy though. Same for Lorenzo Donnell, Day 3 guy but undersized.

There are no ROLBs worth drafting.

CB seems to be a strength of this draft class, which is good for me. The top CB is Bob Rivers, who had a solid combine and some good press saying he was the top CB in the country in college football last year. So that’s good. Donte Benedict had a slightly better combine, I’d consider him an elite athlete at this position. He doesn’t have the press though. I’d have to move up to 5 to take Rivers, and to 10 to land Benedict. Ed Flowers is taller at 6’2”, has weaker man coverage but better zone coverage. Titus Lewis is a lesser athlete and unfortunately I don’t know anything about his coverage skills so he’s not going on my board. Jermaine Fields is probably the best athlete at CB in this class. He’s not mocked in the 1st round, so I could potentially trade up to like pick 33 and double dip at CB if I wanted to. John Craig is another solid CB, round 2-3 prospect. Not as elite as these other guys but a good prospect. Stephen Jackson is the player my GM recommended I draft which is why he’s shown mocked in the 1st round, he won’t go there but there’s a chance he’s hidden dev. He’s not a top notch athlete but he isn’t terrible. Evan Davidson, another solid prospect in the Round 2-3 range. This position is stacked in this class, and I already have a lot of players on my roster at CB. However, I need to probably take multiple swings at a trying to land a hidden dev CB in this stacked class.

FS Damian Devoe is a Round 3-4 prospect worth considering.

SS Peter Clements is a great athlete for a Day 3 prospect.

Current Draft Picks:

Round 1- Pick 14

Round 1 - Pick 25

Round 2 - Pick 46

Round 3 - Pick 78

Round 3 - Pick 87

Round 4 - Pick 110

Round 4 - Pick 119

Round 4 - Pick 121

Round 5 - Pick 142

Round 6 - Pick 168

Round 6 - Pick 174

Round 7 - Pick 206

I have a lot of picks and not a lot of open roster spots. However, the more picks I have the more shots I have a hidden devs. I'd like to trade Okudah for a current first round pick if possible. That will allow me to trade down with my other two firsts for some extra future picks (I currently lack any future draft picks other than my own).

So I've tried all kind of trades.  The only way to get into the top 10 is going to cost me TJ Hockenson, Jeff Okudah plus a 4th round pick, which sounds steep. Honestly at this point I'm just going to trade up from 14 and I'll trade Hockenson and Okudah for future picks in the preseason.

I'm targeting CB Donte Benedict (projected #10 overall) & TE Tavares Streets (projected #23 overall).

Steelers select that lame WR #1 overall. @Danger the Eagles select QB Matt Bacon #2 overall. CB Bob Rivers goes #5 to the Giants. The Colts are on the clock at 8.  Time to try to move up.

*TRADE*

Colts Receive

#25 overall

CB Jeff Okudah (85)

Lions Receive

#8 overall

I tried every offer imaginable without Okudah but they wouldn't do it.  Including Okudah allowed me to use pick 25 instead of pick 14 too.

With the 8th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

CB Donte Benedict, Southern Miss

Man to Man (75), Slot (74), Zone (73)

0zNR0Im.jpg

- Hidden Dev!  95 Speed, 92 acceleration, 91 Agility.  Good call @TL-TwoWinsAway

The trade up allows me to move down from 14. None of the players on my board went between 8 & 14.

*TRADE*

Panthers Receive

#14 overall

Lions Receive

#18 overall

2028 2nd Round Pick

2028 7th Round Pick

Panthers select LE Keilan Nickerson at 14. LE Jabari Bazley goes 15 to the Vikings. CB Ed Flowers goes 16 to the Patriots. I'm on the clock at 18.

Well I was just going to take Streets here but the 49ers are offering me a steal.

*TRADE*

49ers Receive

#18 overall

Lions Receive

#20 overall

#84 overall (3)

2028 6th Round Pick

49ers select HB Aaron Rudolph at 18. The Falcons select another HB at 19.  I'm on the clock again. No more messing around time to take Streets.

With the 20th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

TE Tavares Streets, Texas

Vertical Threat (74), Possession (72), Blocking (59)

ZrQaGLB.jpg

- Oh come on.  Normal dev.  I have selected a TE in EVERY draft so far and none have been hidden dev.

I only have one 2nd round pick, but I'd like to acquire pick 33 so I can take another high end CB prospect. First my target needs to fall to 33 though.

Sweet I just got kicked from EA servers, never happened during a draft before.  Hope nothing is screwed up.

Back online looks like I'm ok.

WR Brian Clements goes 22 to the Bears. TE Dylan Johnston is a Texan at 23. DT Lamarcus Henley goes 26 to the Colts, that is a few spots ahead of where he was supposed to go. HB Tavarius Harris is going to Buffalo with the 27th pick.

OMG CB Jermaine Fields goes #32 i hate my life.

I wouldn't mind drafting HB Mack Hardwick. He's still the 4th HB on the board though so he could drop. I don't pick again for 14 picks though.

*TRADE*

Dolphins Receive

OC Troy Driver (77)

#174 overall (6)

Lions Receive

#36 overall (2)

Center was listed as the Dolphins #1 need (their current starter was 69 OVR) and Driver wasn't starting for me.  He deserved to go start somewhere, plus I plan on taking another depth Olineman later in the draft.

With the 36th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

HB Mack Hardwick, Florida State

Elusive Back (77), Power Back (67), Receiving Back (65)

0468FWq.jpg

- Hidden Dev! Sweet.  He'll compete with Walls for the starting spot. Good athlete, 93 SPD, 90 ACC, 92 AG.

OC Martin Cantwell goes to the Chargers.

Ok I'm on the clock at 46.

QB Searles is available.  He won the Heisman but other than that he's a pretty terrible prospect. CB John Craig is still around, he's a good athlete but I don't know any of his coverage abilities and he's only 5'9". Then there's WR Dennis Gibson, who skipped the combine so I think he has a greater chance of Hidden Dev, and CB Stephen Jackson who's not amazing but my GM recommended him, so I think he also has a greater chance at Hidden Dev.

I don't really have one that I have to have, when that's the case I usually trade down.

*TRADE*

Rams Receive

#46 overall

Lions Receive

#49 overall

2028 4th Round Pick

Just a few spots down and grab a future 4th.

Rams select QB Searles.  Ok I'm on the clock again.

With the 49th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

CB John Craig, Pittsburgh

Man to Man (75), Slot (75), Zone (72)

9WX8kLL.jpg

- Hidden Dev!  WOOO.  2 Hidden dev CBs.  Hell ya!  I thought I was screwed after missing out on Fields.

WR Dennis Gibson is gone. CB Stephen Jackson is also gone. LG Chris Roberts, gone. Say goodbye to LOLB Jamichael Cason. WR Warren McFadden is gone. CB Evan Davidson also gone. LT Jordan McLane gone too. LT Harry Starkey gone. MLB Von Jackson gone. My board got hammered, I'm on the clock in the 3rd.

With the 78th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

OC Larry Dwyer, Alabama

Agile (72), Power (69), Pass Protector (67)

A7wP2DT.jpg

- Normal dev.  This was a bit of a reach but I liked his scouting report.  Bummer he wasn't hidden dev but he replaces Driver as my new backup Center.

With the 84th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

OC Martin Jennings, Notre Dame

Agile (70), Pass Protector (69), Power (68)

4Byy0Ua.jpg

- Hidden Dev!  Figured I'd double dip at backup Oline and it paid off. 90 Strength too.

With the 87th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LE Matt Adams, TCU

Power Rusher (66), Run Stopper (64), Speed Rusher (63)

NgbIV4R.jpg

- Normal dev.  Need some depth at DT. Great athlete for that spot with 81 speed.

I don't pick again till the 4th.  I have picks 110, 119 & 121 in the 4th.

With the 110th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LE Alex Price, Kansas State

Speed Rusher (71), Power Rusher (65), Run Stopper (63)

3V3RlZ5.jpg

- Normal dev. Depth pick. Good athlete.

With the 119th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

SS Peter Clements, Tulane

Zone (68), Hybrid (65), Run Support (63)

5AnhbbG.jpg

- Normal dev. Depth pick again.

With the 121st Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

TE Carson Kincaid, West Virginia

Vertical Threat (67), Possession (64), Blocking (53)

jzCXZqD.jpg

- Normal dev. I only had 2 guys left on my draft board, figured I'd take another stab at finding a hidden dev TE.  Nope.

On to the 5th.  Only 1 player left on my draft board.

With the 142nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

MLB Lorenzo Donnell, Ole Miss

Pass Coverage (67), Field General (67), Run Stopper (66)

NGWfwjW.jpg

- Normal dev.  Depth pick.

No one left on my board, I'm going to trade away my last 2 picks.

6th round pick traded to Steelers for future 5th.

7th round pick traded to Raiders for future 6th.

That wraps this draft.

Not a lot of changes from last year. On offense, I'm considering starting Hardwick at HB.

TJ Hockenson will likely be shopped. Not sure if Streets will start.

Oline and WRs stay the same.

Dline stays the same.

Linebackers stay the same.

At CB, Smallwood becomes the new #1.  I'll have Benedict as my #2 and Gholston will play the slot (which is his best position). Craig will be the 4th CB.
