Offense
After losses the past few weeks, we need a win this week if we plan on making the playoffs.  Due to this being McCarron’s first start, we are going to protect him as much as possible.

This will start up front, we have had to shift our OL a bit, but we don’t think this will cause much of a downgrade, if any, as Pugh has played very well at RT this year when he was moved IRL.   We are going to lean on our two TE set a lot this week and run, run, run.  We will rotate all three of our RBs and run both inside and outside.  We want long drives that chew up clock.  Look for us to split Rudolph out into the slot to make a LB have to follow him and open up the box a bit.

We will target the TEs and RBs as we think they can beat Matthews or Davis in coverage regularly as both have struggled in that regard this year.  Matthews in particular has had his athleticism sapped by injuries.  We believe that attacking in this manner will help McCarron ease into the game.

We are going to get Tyreek heavily involved.  Assuming they give the CB help over the top, we are going to focus on screens, slants, and other quick passes to get the ball into his hands in a manner that makes the high safety irrelevant.  And, assuming Trumaine is on Tyreek, this type of quick routes will be more effective against the bigger corner.  Once again, this will serve to make McCarron’s life easier.

These plans will likely force LB to put Collins in the box.  Once this happens, we will take our deep shots to our WRs.  We will rotate Fuller in to keep our deep threats fresh.  This will be as much to keep the defense honest as much as anything.  But instead of solely 9 routes, we will use plenty of deep digs with Tyreek to get him crossing the defense.

TL;DR - Run a lot, target Matthews and Davis in coverage, plenty of Tyreek, take a few deep shots.

Defense
We are going to lean on our defensive line to dominate the trenches.  LB has some good offensive linemen, but we believe that Williams can clog the middle demanding his double teams and Daniels, Lawrence, and Houston can wreak havoc and get to the QB with regularity.  This will allow our LBs to flow to the ball in the running game and keep the RBs contained.

Man Coverage
We believe the constant pressure will force LB to keep Kittle in to help block.  This will allow our LBs to keep an eye on McCaffrey.  One LB will follow the RB in man coverage and the other will sit in a middle zone or come on a delayed blitz.  If Kittle releases, the other LB will take him.

Hopefully, we have Rowe back this week and he will take one outside spot across from Bouye.  Hilton takes his spot in the slot where he has been great all year.  We will play them close to the WRs to take away quick passes as both our safeties will be sitting back in a two deep shell.  LB’s WRs are better at the deep ball, so we want our safeties sitting back to help in case our pass rush doesn’t get home in time.

Zone Coverage
We will mix in a fair amount of zone coverage to keep the QB guessing.  We will switch between Cover 2 and 3.  The CBs and Gipson will play deep in cover 3 and the safeties will play deep in cover 2.  In the underneath zones, we will switch up who has which zone as we are able to further confuse the QB.

TL;DR - DL dominates, flow to the RBs, mix up man and zone.

Team:

McCown has a week and a game under his belt with the Leprechauns. We are looking for him to lead our team at home against an injured but fiery team from Berlin.

Offense:

We will be featuring a layered and balanced passing attack that spreads out the Berlin defense and a zone running game to take advantage of gaps in a spread out defense. We will facing one of the best front fours in BDL and we have tackle injuries. However we are confident in our scheme and our players.

Formation:

Our base offense this week will be a three wide, one tight, one back set.  We will also run two tight sets to help with the edge rushers of Berlin. If they heavy blitz one side of the line we can chip with a back on that side or stack our two tight to one side. I will go four wide with Kupp as the fourth if my oline is showing it can match up so that we can spread out that secondary.

Pass Offense:

Josh gets his second week starting for us and we expect to see improvements. We will be able to expand on route concepts this week. We will stack routes to provide openings to beat cover 2 (which Berlin played last week), cover 3 or man looks. We will be looking to utilize a quick passing game out of our three wide sets as we will have less help against the pass rush this way. McCaffrey out of the backfield will be big for us in this game as well as utilizing the size advantage of Funchess on quick plays and seam stretching plays. Some examples of stacking routes for the quick passing game are having my outside receivers running slants while my slot runs an arrow. I will also use my four wide to get quick passes out if we believe our line can hold up. If they bring guys up in the box to stop our quick passing game we will use verticals, posts, and corners from Hopkins and Jones while keeping Kittle or Kroft in to block and help by more time as well as chip with McCaffrey. If you haven’t seen his chip on Robert Ayers you should look it up. McCown can make all of these throws and he gets underrated a lot for what he can do. McCaffrey will be seeing passes out of the backfield on a variety of routes. Once again this week Mark Ingram will see a few passes out of the backfield as well, and Damien Williams can also see some passes his way if the other two need rest. In three wide sets we have George Kittle or Tyler Kroft in the game at tight end. These will be the two tight ends on two tight sets. We think Kroft is a bit better receiver and that Kittle is the better blocker so we will use both interchangeably in different situations. These two will be used a lot in the game to stand in block or chip. They will never have a free release and we are okay with that as they are going to often be the fourth or fifth read in this game, as protecting McCown is their primary responsibility.

Berlin has the best pass rushing line in BDL. I have injuries at RT and it is possible Armstead does not play. If Armstead can’t go Okung will start, and he has played pretty well this year. We are starting Norwell this week at RG, with Thuney at LG and Unger again at C. We are starting Brandon Shell at RT who has played well for the Jets, and has matched up with some premier edge rushers this season, and done his job. Again these guys will be getting help from the tight ends and backs to make their jobs easier.

Run Offense:

Ingram and  McCaffrey will split even carries. McCaffrey finally looked a little bit like a running back last week. We are using the same running scheme as last week as I think it works well against a two LBer defense with quick twitch edge rushers. We will be running a mix of a zone scheme looking to take advantage of open running lanes along the entire line as we spread out their defense with our passing game and formations; and a man blocking scheme as our sweet spots this week are off tackle but with the tackle sealing outside and running off of the guards down block and release to the LBer and off the tackles backside as he does his seal outside. The zone stretch is a play that will let us beat their defense outside but also provide cut backs behind the defensive tackles once they have made any sort of penetration. Patience is the game here and we believe we have two very patient runners in McCaffrey and Ingram.

Defense:

We are looking to minimize the big play, and be aggressive. Berlin doesn’t have Jameis this week and will have to start AJ Mccarron. They also will have to play Taylor Moton at RT and hope Trent Williams is healthy enough to play or they won’t have a second tackle since James is out for the year.

Formation:

Our base D is basically a 4-4 under again this week with Collins. We will play nickel if they go to a three wide set. We will be playing cover three and man. In three wide or more sets we will go to a Cover 3. In two tight we will be playing man with a Safety over the top. In obvious passing situations Matthews plays RE with Flowers at LE and Hargrave at NT with Jordan at UT. If they run two tight against us like they did against the Jizz  the 4-4 will be very effective.

Front 7:

Once again our DT pair will be DJ Reader and Javon Hargrave. This duo gives me a nice complimentary combo of a penetrator who is a solo tackle machine at under tackle and a lane clogging pocket collapser in DJ Reader at nose tackle. Tuitt will be the primary rotational guy to give either of these two rest, as well as Dean Lowry at UT if needed. Cam Jordan and Trey Flowers are great run defenders and underrated pass rushers and they get the joy of facing Taylor Moton and a hobbled Trent Williams. If Williams can’t go they will have to start a Guard at T. In our base D, Jarrad Davis is in at MLB, and Clay Matthews at SLB with De’Vondre Campbell at WLB. These three are very good run defenders behind my line. Clay Matthews will have force responsibilities on outside run plays backs inside as well as blitzing every pass play from different sides and from the middle to disrupt AJ McCarron. Matthews will not have any coverage responsibilities. In 3 wide sets on running downs Matthews will come off the field but will play RE on obvious passing downs. In nickel Campbell will play zone and will have hook to curl. Davis will come off the field on clear passing downs and Deone Bucannon will play MLB and have zone responsibility in a hook to curl opposite Campbell. Against the two tight Collins is man on a tight end, Campbell is man on a tight end, Bucannon or Davis has the RB and Matthews is blitzing adding more pressure.

Secondary:

Trumaine and Burns will matchup with whichever receivers are on the field. Berlin has a lot of speed but I question McCarron being able to get the ball where it needs to be especially with our pressure in his face. As stated above in two tight sets we are playing man with Darian Thompson over the top. Thompson will likely help more to the side of Tyreek Hill. Against three wide we will bring in Roby and run a cover 3. If they run four wide we will bring in Budda Baker for Campbell and play our cover 3. Baker was a tackling machine on Thursday as he finally saw some more game action. Collins is disrupting things underneath and we expect our defense to get some turnovers this week against McCarron and the speedsters. This defense is designed to attack while also not giving up the big play.

The Leprechauns are out for blood...or gold... or clovers.

I'm okay with that.  Especially since we are going against McCown.

I'll let the people decide. You gameplanned a corner who didn't play and you claim a QB would be better who hasn't thrown a pass this year over a QB who is out battling with little help for weapons. I know this is fantasy but that is more fantasy than I don't know what...
