It’s going to be fascinating what happens at WR. When Pringle comes back we will have 7 on the roster.

Velus is the most useless, but as a draft pick he won’t be cut. Maybe IR stashed.

Pettis is the least exciting on offense, but he is our only PR.

I think you’re overselling Pettis as a PR. First off, he also muffed a punt (against NE), but since it didn’t cost us anything and came in a win it’s quickly forgotten. Also, Velus is limited offensively for now, but it’s something. Once Pringle is back what is Pettis giving you on offense? Maybe even before Pringle is back now that Claypool is in the fold? Pettis gives you zero on offense that isn’t better found elsewhere. He’s a biggish receiver, but 3 other guys offer more size. He doesn’t run block nearly at the level of Harry/ESB/Claypool. He’s got probably the worst hands of any of our receivers. He’s not fast. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t play on coverage teams. He’s almost surely not as well looked upon by this regime as ESB. He’s also IMO, of the 7 WR including Pringle, by far the least likely to be here next year.

If Pettis’ only claim to keep a roster spot once Pringle is back is that he can usually catch a punt without fumbling it then that’s probably not enough, and for a team that’s essentially admitted publicly this week that it isn’t trying to win in 2022 to keep him active over a guy who the team drafted with plans of being their long term return specialist doesn’t really seem to fit with what seems to be happening right now.

They had an open competition to return punts and Pettis was the best one.

They have told us he is their best option.

Someone has to return punts without it being a Velus **** show.

Pringle is a better player...right now...doesn't mean he will be a better player in 2 years when we really need talent to compete...I am not sure Pringle will be here even next season.

But right now is when we want the offense and Qb to continue to be good.

I want the best players on the field with Fields… not a guy who we are hoping is something in 2023.

By that logic Leatherwood should have played over Rieff and Carter over Schofield.

If they have another competent punt returner someone where… then by all means let Pettis go and activate Velus over Harry or ESB.

But not if we are going to go back to fumbling away games.

I personally would continue to play Harry and ESB… I think both add more to the offense right now and we seem to finally have some offensive momentum.

That logic is completely different because those guys are starters...it's not as black and white at receiver where you can rotate in and out...again making a decision on Velus based on what we have seen so far is just crazy IMO.

1. You can rotate OLmen… there is a team in the NFC North that did it for weeks.

2. No one is making a final decision on Velus… just admitting at this point he doesn’t do enough for the team to warrant taking a jersey away from someone who does.

1. You know full well it is harder to rotate an OL than a WRs without messing up chemistry.

2. Pringle has also done next to nothing due to injury & Pettis is hit & miss on if he will catch the ball or not as well…he just has far less upside than Velus…again no one is saying drop St. Brown for this dude who has been a really big part of what we do…I wouldn’t even give him snaps over Harry who I think can be that big slot we are missing because we don’t have a move TE…but you have to find a guy who’s athletic traits stand out even at the NFL level a way to get the ball in his hands.

Thank God we pissed away that Robinson 3rd round comp pick for a guy who can’t bring lore to the offense the a guy who runs 1 jet sweep a game.

Pringle should and will be given a chance. Otherwise what a terrible signing.
