Singapore Sentinels

Motivation

Our playoffs start this week as we need to win out to get in this year. Long Beach’s short win streak stops here.

Offense (4 WR, 1 RB)

4 Wide Spread w/Single Back - Our offensive strength is in the top RB’s in the league and a solid quad of receivers for Big Ben to spread the ball around to. Our run game keeps the defense honest, which will allow Ben time to get the ball out quick and up the field to the WRs and backs. Fitzgerald is having a revival year and isn’t quite ready to hang his cleats up yet. Allen has been on fire lately and these two top 10 WR’s will slide inside to the slots this week to overmatch the LB secondary with quick screens, snags and short-crossers. Sanu and Williams will be the boundary WR’s and provide outlets as needed to beat the blitz.

Big Ben will occasionally take shots downfield but his accuracy on longer throws this year has been suspect. Changing to a quick read, short passing offense will improve his accuracy and completion percentage and also get the ball into our playmakers hands and allow them to rack up the YAC. Davis, Dorsett and Jones round out a solid beginning to a Corp of receivers for the future.

Offensive Front - My much maligned OL can get the job done by running away from Jordan’s side. Our RB’s lead the league in missed tackles (Hunt 60, Bell 36) so they don’t need much of a crease to get yards after contact. We should be able to sustain drives and control the clock long enough to get our shots in.

TL:DR - Quick Passing offense, Control the clock, tire out the defense. Break some big runs.

Defense (4-2-5)

Nickel Base w/ High Safety - We expect LB to come out in their 3 WR set with Nuke, Jones and Funchess. We’ll counter with a nickel package of Waynes, Mills and rising rookie Desmond King. Nuke will require double coverage from Duron Harmon on overwatch and Waynes off the line. Mills will take Jones with King covering Funchess most likely from the slot. JJ3 will be in the box to help cover Kittle and support the run.

Unleash the Dogs of War - Helping our secondary out is our premier defensive front. They face a stout challenge this week in an above average OL from the Leprechauns. Everson Griffen continues his DPOY campaign with McCown set in his sights this week. He should have no pocket to throw from with Joseph and Donald doing dirty work inside as always. Hunter is back to form for a playoff push as well. In passing situations, Joseph comes off and we rotate Hunter inside and bring in Judon, a defensive player of the week last week, to turn up the heat even further.

Stop the Run -  The leader of our defense, Deion Jones, will play spy on McCaffrey/Ingram out of the backfield. Our front 4 all are stout against the run and have Jones and Thompson to stack and shed defenders keeping the plays in front of them. Johnson III will provide and extra body to shut down the middle lanes.

TL:DR - Pressure McCown, Double Nuke, Stop the run

Long Beach

We are looking forward to this Matchup against Singapore after they didn’t submit any gameplan yesterday and their coach just showed up to eat hot dogs.

Formation:

We will once again turn to our trusted and effective three wide, one tight, one back formation as our base.  However we will aim to run a four wide set forty percent of the time. We will mix in some two tight end sets to get Tyler Kroft on the field ideally ten percent of the time. If they heavy blitz one side of the line we can chip with a back on that side or stack our two tight to one side like we did successfully last week.

Pass Offense:

Singapore has a very good dline so we will feature a quick passing attack to negate the pass rush and any blitzes. We will be stacking routes again with our first and primary reads being those slants, arrows, digs, and outs, amongst other quick passes out of the backfield to McCaffrey and Ingram. If our line holds up we will be able to get off some of those deeper passes to the top routes. Funchess will outmuscle whoever they put in the slot and Singapore doesn’t have an answer for him. Marvin Jones whooped up on Xavier Rhodes this week and showed he is a serious threat as our number two. Hopkins we trust to beat any type of coverage. Our receivers can beat any of their corners one on one and if they double any one of them there will be matchups in our favor at all times spread across the field. Kittle gets the start at tight end and will help on the line chipping but he will also be getting out into his underneath routes, while also doing some seam stretching to free up my underneath receivers as the tight end will be part of our route stacking in this game. Kroft will be more of the receiving threat at tight end in this one however and we believe he will be a great red zone target with Funchess. When we line up in our four wide set where we will line up McCaffrey as the fourth receiver, with Kupp as his backup. This will spread out a weak corner group, and we will do this often utilizing McCaffrey’s ability as a receiver out in space. Ingram a very good pass blocker will stay in to block as the sixth pass blocker in this set. I believe McCown can find his great weapons early and often and lead this passing offense to great success as my system is setup for him to flourish.

Okung will once again start at RT. Okung played very well against a pretty good Cowboys pass rush holding Lawrence and crew sackless. Armstead mans the LT spot and has been a stud for the Saints pass and run game. If anything happens to Armstead, Brandon Shell slots in at RT and Okung moves to LT. Inside we have Thuney, Unger, and Norwell. Jamon Brown is the swing interior player in this one. While Singapore has a great dline, we really like our oline and believe they hold up well. Kittle will be in on some pass plays as a stand in blocker and also as a chipper. Kroft will chip when in the game also. Our two tight sets will be used to gain ground in the run game but also allow us to release a TE into a route while keeping one into block.

Run Offense:

Ingram gets the start and will get a 70/30 split in carries with McCaffrey. As McCaffrey will be splitting out a lot more this game than usual.  We will run a zone run game with holes underneath the outside pass rushers gaps, and if the outside pass rushers start closing down we will gash them outside. With the aggressive penetration of Donald we believe cutbacks will be there underneath. Ingram has shown that he can carry the load very successfully and we like what he is bringing to our run offense.

Defense:

We will look to shut down LeVeon and make Big Ben make mistakes. We will attack backup T’s with our edge defenders to dictate what their offense can do. Which won’t be much.

Formation:

Our base D is basically a 4-4 under again this week with Collins playing in the box as an extra linebacker and Budda Baker playing up in the nickel. If the Singapore team comes out in two wide sets we will play our 4-4 with Jarrad Davis on the field field instead of Baker.

Front 7:

Our focus up front it to stop LeVeon and get after Big Ben. DJ Reader and Javon Hargrave will start inside and provide great run stopping ability and pocket collapsing pass rushing. Tuitt will rotate in for Reader on passing downs to give us more burst in the middle. I really appreciate the solid play of my ends. They can rush the passer but they are also great run defenders. Cam Jordan and Trey Flowers have been stalwarts at end for me and should be able to take advantage of the Singapore tackle situation. They will be backed up my Ronald Blair at LE and Clay Matthews at RE. Matthews will be the RE on clear passing situations and also will be the backup at SLB in two wide sets. We will start in the nickel as it appears that Singapore has been using the three wide often. We will start Bucannon at WLB, Davis at MLB, and Campbell at SLB if they go two wide. This once again gives us a lot of speed and quick gap fillers in the run game. These three linebackers allow my zone coverage to be effective. If Singapore goes three wide Campbell and Bucannon will be the LBers, backed up by Jarrad Davis at both spots. Campbell as the SLB will line up tight end side closer to the line of scrimmage and play curl to flat and have force responsibilities in the run game. Landon Collins will be lined up more in the middle like a second middle linebacker and help with the run stopping. He will have hook to curl in the middle with Bucannon having the same responsibility. This allows Landon to act as sort of a robber in the middle of the field as well as have the super athletic Bucannon shutting down anything that crosses the middle.

Secondary:

Tru and Burns will play on the outside and have deep third responsibilities. Darian Thompson has the deep middle third. I am playing Budda Baker in the nickel this week if Singapore goes three wide, as he has been a terror for the Cardinals the last two weeks and has been all over the field making tackles. He will allow me an athletic player covering the other curl to flat opposite Campbell, and also as a run defender against the run with force responsibility. Roby is the backup corner and can play either outside or in that nickel if Budda got hurt. They have some big bodied receivers, and I believe my physical defensive backs matchup well against them.

We smell the playoffs! Let’s go!

Running four wide stretches the LB corner depth, but also leaves Singapore vulnerable to the planned pass rush to make Ben force errors. I expect to see him havong to move out of the pocket quite often. Going LB.
