Round 1
Sonics   Timberwolves
PG Mike Peterson 95   PG Jeff Teague 77
SG Gus Sharp 83   SG Mario Hezonja 78
SF Brett Gentry 88   SF Andrew Wiggins 87
PF Kelvin Horsley 83   PF Julius Randle 81
C Gordon Dean 85   C Karl-Anthony Towns 94

Jimmy Butler is injured for 1-2 weeks, so he may come back for the tail end of this series. I match up pretty well with the Timberwolves. KAT will probably kill me, but I'm hoping that Dean's height limits his work around the basket

Game 1

Timberwolves win 110-104 and lead the series 1-0. KAT at 29/14 beat me up. Gentry led the team with 22/6

Game 2

Sonics win 102-98 and the series is now tied. Horsley, the rook, lead the team with 21/4. Towns was held to only 19.

Game 3

Sonics win 91-90 at home; the Sonics lead the series 2-1. Wiggins and KAT combine for 50, but Gus Sharp dominates with 38 points and 16 rebounds. He was 10/19 from 3.

Game 4

Timberwolves win 118-111 and the series is now tied 2-2. Hezonja (who?) scored 29, KAT with 21-11. Gentry scored 27.

Game 5

Sonics win 124-115 and take the series lead 3-2. Mike Peterson went off. 39 points, 7 assists, shooting 66% from the field. KAT only played 31 minutes, not sure why, but he only had 16/2.

Game 6

I will play this game with 6 minute quarters, pro-rated stats to a full 12 minute game.

Jimmy Butler has returned for game 6.

This game got close a couple times, but I think I led the entire game. Horsley is pretty damn good. Has strong post moves, and can hit an open 3.

You've got a couple of mistakes in your standings table (you've highlighted the wrong team, and you have Montreal's record as 56-56 instead of 56-26)

Hezonja is a former #5 overall pick by Orlando from Croatia.  There's was a fair bit of hype around his scoring potential before he was drafted, but it hasn't quite materialized irl

Round 2
Sonics   Thunder
PG Mike Peterson 95   PG Russell Westbrook 95
SG Gus Sharp 83   SG Tyler Johnson 79
SF Brett Gentry 88   SF Paul George 88
PF Kelvin Horsley 83   PF Larry Nance Jr 83
C Gordon Dean 85   C Deandre Jordan 85

I really don't like Russel Westbrook. Or Wilson. Russell isn't a good pro athlete name for me.

Game 1

Sonics win 111-110 and lead the series 1-0. Gentry puts up 30 points and it's enough to beat an almost triple double by Westbrook. They basically had 3 players score all of their points, with RW, PG and Deandre scoring over 25 each

Game 2

Sonics win 90-81 and lead 2-0. Point guard Mike Peterson led with 21 points and 10 assists in a very low scoring game. RW only ended with 19/8/6.

Game 3

Sonics win 89-82 in another low scoring game; the Sonics lead the series 3-0. RW shot 0-9 from the field, scoring only 8 points on free throws. PG led them with 26, and the Sonics scoring was pretty spread out. **Montreal is also leading their series 3-0 against Boston**

Game 4

I will play this game with 6 minute quarters, pro-rated stats to a full 12 minute game.

Timberwolves win 118-111 and the series is now tied 2-2. Hezonja (who?) scored 29, KAT with 21-11. Gentry scored 27.

Sonics   Thunder

SG/SF Gus Sharp 10/2/2004   PG George Hill 10/2
C Gordon Dean 10/10   PF Larry Nance Jr 0/12

The Sonics win the series 4-0

The Monsters also win their series 4-0

The Monsters over the regular season allowed 89.2 points against. That is 4 points better than 2nd place. They only averaged 93.8 points for, which is the 2nd worst in the league. Pythagorean records would indicate that they should regress big time next year, but who knows.

They've allowed 100 points in the playoffs once, and have allowed less than 90 points in 6 out of 10 games, including 2 under 80. All 5 of their starting players are either 2 way players or shutdown defenders. Let's see how they do against Philly who had the 6h highest PPG in the regular season

Round 3
Sonics   Rockets
PG Mike Peterson 95   PG Chris Paul 94
SG Gus Sharp 88   SG James Harden 99
SF Brett Gentry 83   SF Bojam Bogdanovic 78
PF Kelvin Horsley 83   PF Thaddeus Young 80
C Gordon Dean 85   C Clint Capela 88

This is a really good team. Their guard play, specifically Harden, will probably destroy me. in 2k17 I couldn't stop Harden. He shoots at will.

Game 1

Sonics win 118-105 and lead the series 1-0. James Harden scored (only) 27. Paul 25. The rest sucked. Mike Petersen dropped 30, and Gus Sharp scored 22 to go along with 14 rebounds.

Montreal lost game 1

Game 2

Sonics win 116-97 and leads 2-0. Horsley had a great game, with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals, shooting 9-11 from the field. Harden and Paul were less effective than the first game, scoring 23 and 20 respectively.

Montreal lost game 2 and is down 2-0

Game 3

Sonics win 107-91 at home; the Sonics lead the series 3-0. A different hero every game; Gus Sharp scored 33 points with 8 rebounds. James Harden put up 42, but it wasn't enough as no one else scored more than 11. I thought this would be much harder, given this is the best team I've played...

Montreal won game 3 and is down 2-1

Game 4

I will play this game with 6 minute quarters, pro-rated stats to a full 12 minute game.

This was a weird game. I got down big in the first quarter, and then blew them out from the 2nd quarter on. Harden dropped 52 points, probably half in the 4th quarter. Horsley had 44 points and 10 rebounds. Horsley has scored 40+ points in all three usered games these playoffs - he is such a well rounded offensive player. It's weird how bad I am at using Petersen.

Montreal won game 4 and is tied 2-2.

Sonics win 150-130 and sweep the Rockets.

Montreal won game 5, and is up 3-2.

Montreal won game 6, and has won the series 4-2.

How did this happen? I expected Montreal would have been bottom 10 in the league, not in the NBA Finals. This is what I wanted, I just wish that Montreal had a better offense.

NBA Finals
Sonics   Monsters
PG Mike Peterson 95   PG Monte Morris 78
SG Gus Sharp 88   SG Marcus Smart 86
SF Brett Gentry 83   SF Kelly Oubre Jr. 80
PF Kelvin Horsley 83   PF Ulf Eklund 80
C Gordon Dean 85   C Shawn Willis 84

Well we made it. We each took separate paths. Montreal took Eklund 1 overall in 2020, and Shawn Willis at 4 overall the year before. Marcus Smart was their free agency pickup, and the rest are just developed players.

I have 2 #1 overalls on my team, a 6th overall, and 2 8ths.

My team had the #6 offense and a middle of the pack defense, whereas Montreal was 1st defensively, and 2nd worst on offense

Game 1

Sonics win 95-60 and lead the series 1-0. Wow.... Was this a fluke, or is the East this terrible. Montreal scored 23 points in the first half. Gus Sharp scored 28 points, but who cares. What an awful game 1.

Game 2

Monsters win 97-94 and the series is now tied. In 2 games, I haven't scored over 100 points. The defense is real. Shawn Willis had a really efficient game, scoring 18 on 9-11 shooting. Gentry scored 21 to lead the Sonics.

Game 3

Monsters win 87-86 and lead the series 2-1. Guess I did jinx myself. Willis had 23/12. and Sharp scored 24 t0 pace everyone.

Game 4

Sonics win 101-88 and the series is now tied 2-2. I hit the century mark at least. Mike Peterson dropped 26 points and Sharp added 21. Pretty bad game offensively for the Monsters, with Marcus Smart leading with 17.

Game 5

Sonics win 104-97 and take the series lead 3-2. Here's the Willis I was worried about - he abused Dean and dropped 31 points and 11 rebounds. Anigbogu added 5 blocks. Montreal's offense is just so anemic and doesn't really have a #2. Peterson led the Sonics with 24 points.

Game 6

I will play this game with 6 minute quarters, pro-rated stats to a full 12 minute game.

I will update this tomorrow

Do you remember any of the draft day NBA player comparisons for the guys you've drafted?  Mainly your starting 5, and Shawn Willis?

That is a great question, I haven't been tracking that. I will start

Sorry for the week break.

I thought Montreal was going to be a joke, but their defense was actually legit. I just couldn't get clean shots off against them. I started off shooting 28% from the field in the first half, down 20 points. The second half I stopped running plays, and just drove the basket with playmakers. Gentry ended with 30 points and 10 boards, and Gordon Dean had 1 points and 22 rebounds.

Sonics win 102-100 and win the NBA Finals!

Despite only scoring 2 points in game 6, Gus Sharp won Finals MVP.

I really wanted to make this team into a dynasty and then leave for Montreal, who I figured would be awful, but considering they just made the finals, I need to re-evaluate. I will probably do a couple more years with Seattle so I leave them in a good spot.

I don't like playing with Petersen, which is a shame because he is my best player. He has an awkward shot and tbh I spelled his name wrong for the first 4 years because who spells it Petersen.
