Week 16: BAL @ SF

Some have billed this as a clash of Titans and a possible SB preview, yet others have billed this as blow out win for the 49ers… that they’re the clear superior team.

The 49ers have the MVP favorite(s). They have 8 of the top 10 players playing in this game. And they’re playing at home. They have an offense being compared to the greatest show on turf and a defense that is on the same level as the Ravens defense.

On paper, the Ravens don’t have a chance, they’re the obvious underdogs. Keaton Mitchell just went down to injury, they’ve got banged up OTs giving up pressures left and right (literally- on the left side and right side). They have their All Pro TE on IR. Best RB on IR. Their standout rookie reportedly has a foot injury.

In what has been billed as a Clash of Titans it’s felt more and more like David vs Goliath. Can the Ravens defeat the buzzsaw known as the 49ers? We don’t need this game to win the division or get the AFC #1 seed, but this game is one about pride. The 49ers have lost to three teams, two of which were located in the AFCN. A win and it says a lot about which is the best division in football, it says the Ravens are as for real a contender as anyone else, and it shows that the leaders of this team: Lamar, Roquan, Hamilton, etc… don’t care how they win, just that they win.

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄

PS: A thorough preview breakdown from Maryland’s own Dominique Foxworth and Mina Kimes.

IMO at some point this season we’re going to need our first rounders from the 2021 class in Oweh and Bateman to have some first round performance type games if we want to win it all. Would be nice if either or both have them Monday night

Honestly. The 1st half went kind of how I expected. We had a few nice plays by our defenders that resulted in Agee lucky plays. The second half surprised me a little. Defense really played well. Offense made some timely plays. I don’t know why we wouldn’t commit to max protect Lamar and let him cook. The way we neutralized these pass rushers and let Lamar just process at a high level. Really encouraging win.

Lamar's MVP campaign just put the absolute world on notice tonight. It's so obvious his impact on a game goes beyond the raw stats. Every play he extends, every key first down he picks up, it all goes into the Ravens winning games and continuing to be dominant. He doesn't need to throw for 400 yards or 5 TD's to show his value - just watch him play and it's EASY to notice.

Brock Purdy got F'd up tonight because he's a rhythm/spot thrower and the Ravens defense is physical and delayed his timing. It's really that simple. He has no ability to play off-rhythm.

EDIT: It is funny to see the insane amount of mental gymnastics that NFL Gen is doing to avoid giving Lamar credit for this season, though. His best passing target is on IR, his best WR is a rookie, there is no run game outside of him, but because he doesn't have gaudy bulk stats people just refuse to think he's even playing well. Absolutely blows my mind. If Patrick Mahomes was having this same exact season this year, they'd be praising him from the mountain tops.

EDIT 2: Also, very bad day for the "Marlon humphrey is actually bad" truthers out there
