And if that mattered, the Cubs wouldn't have been offering him and others to get Machado.

Not one legit source has stated that the Cubs offered him up. The O’s could have brought his name up though, which is more likely.

Not sure I get the pessimism on Russell, either. He was worth 2.9 Wins in 140 games as a 21 year old. He was a 4 Win player as a 22 year old. He then had a down year in 2017 that included multiple nagging injuries and a legal separation from his wife off the field. His wife’s friend accused him of DV and he had to deal with that as well. There were what, 4 or 5 SS in the entire game that were worth 4 Wins last year?  But finding a replacement for him wouldn’t be hard?

a lot of that comes from his defense though, which even today theres a lot of room for improvement in measuring it and war is probably a little heavy in weighing it.Hes a good player, but hes yet to produce a wRC+ of 100, has a career OBP of .312 and he deosnt really seem to be improving at the plate. Lets not act like theres not very real concerns about him.
