Senior Bowl Thread

The guy that I think will be hurt by the Senior Bowl is Xavier Legette.

He has had a lot of round 1 buzz but his measurables really are leaving something to be desired - small hands (8 7/8), average arms (31 7/8) and he's not super tall (6'1). PFF had him listed as 6'3, so that does change things a bit for him.

He only had 2 drops on 97 targets (2.1%) so maybe the hands aren't going to be a big issue for him. However, they are questions he'll have to answer in the process.

I didn't know his hands were so small. Dang.

He's a really big bodied WR that is great at high pointing and making contested catches. Some people seem to think he's going to run a 4.3 because of his top end speed, but I don't think he has enough get-off. Probably more like a 4.47... I don't think he runs very good routes or gets good separation. He seems to push off a good amount.

His size will play for sure but I don't know if he'll get open in the NFL... He'll need someone like Stafford that will throw the ball into coverage or he might not get a shot. Like a short thick Kenny Golladay.

For my money, gimme Keon Coleman. If he goes outside the top 20 I think it'll be an absolute steal. He doesn't have Legette's top speed but does everything else equal or way better. Decent routes, great hands, great yac, give him the ball anywhere on the field, etc.

I don't watch enough to know if these kids block well etc.

I agree but they can’t disregard the oline. They need to keep it as a strength while improving the D

Absolutely agree. This team wins and loses through the OL. We don't need to be high end or elite on D (although it would be nice). But we need a high end to elite OL for the run and Goff.

I'd actually be more than ok by taking IOL with our first round. In that range, you generally get one of, if not the best iol in the draft. I'd rather have that then the 5th ranked DL player.

  • Coleman - 67.9 Run Block
  • Nabers - 64.3
  • Harrison - 63.7
  • Legette - 42.0 Run Block

I was surprised to see that T'Vondre Sweat weighed in at 335.  It looked like he was at 350-360 Lbs during his last season.  There were some questions about his work-ethic and ability to keep his weight under control prior to the Senior Bowl.  If he show he can keep his weight under control and keep his conditioning up, he might be a surprise riser in the draft.

He is definitely someone I would like to add to our D and that will likely have to be in the first.  I have seen him moving up boards for a while now and his athleticism at his size along with his production reminds me of Jordan Davis.  Also I like that our new DL coach is working with him at the Senior Bowl and Sweat said he has helped him a ton in just a couple days.  Nice to now have first hand knowledge of how he works/practices/absorbs coaching with adding Williams to the staff.

The biggest thing with Sweat that has been observed is that he does wear down.  His conditioning is something that has to be a real focus considering how much being out-of-shape reportedly affected Jordan Davis.  Personally, I am hoping we get the chance to draft Darius Robinson.

In the category of NFL Draft self-sabatoge we have LB Edgerrin Cooper.  Check this out:

One all-star prospect who could be in Mobile is Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. Cooper accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine, but pulled out of practicing at the last minute. When teams interviewed him and asked why he opted out late instead of practicing, Cooper snarkily responded by asking NFL scouts if they had watched his tape. That answer and attitude was the worst possible thing that Cooper could have offered. Sources say they really liked Cooper’s tape and 2023 performance, but now they are wondering about adding his personality to their team. Cooper needs a big reversal in the team interviews at the combine and other pre-draft interactions. Beyond also playing a position that gets devalued in NFL drafts, Cooper did some damage to his draft stock with teams.

Yikes!

This just screams "don't you know who I am" when some hot shot gets pulled over for a suspected DUI.

Not a good look.

I saw this write-up from Daniel Jeremiah on the Senior Bowl Winners.  Quinyon Mitchell seems to have played himself ahead of the Lions #29.  Darius Robinson should be in play for the Lions at #29 if he is available.  Tyler Guyton has some concerns from his time at Oklahoma regarding consistency and work ethic but he has a lot of potential.  You don't see a lot players with his physical tools come along very often.  It will be interesting to see how the combine affects these players.

Guytons concerns aren’t out of line for a one year starter. He will be long gone by the Lions pick.

In a shocking twist, JPJ has 31 inch arms... his arm length is in line with Baltimore's Tyler Linderbaum, who is a pretty good OC overall. He was picked at #25 overall.

As an OG, Giants' Ben Bredeson is the same and he's been an average player. It's far too simple to say "long arms = good; short arms = bad". However, some teams do have minimums at a position and he's going to be taken off of a couple of boards as a result.

I don't know what to think about DT T'Vondre Sweat.  He had a pretty good week of practice.  He has good length and enormous hands.  However, his weight is a real problem.  I misread the Senior Bowl Roster and as it turns out he didn't actually weigh-in and  "Estimates" were 360-370 Lb range.  It like that would limit him to being a 2-down run-stuffing DT and that is a pretty limited role.  It might be useful in Red Zone Defense though.  He seems like he is going to go in Round 3 or later.
