Mooney choked in a big moment with another uncontested drop. Ugh.

He still had a great game minus that horrible drop. I can see him having a great year if Cousins can have a few great games like that down the stretch.

Definitely. I was more mad at him than anything. I was rooting for him but I feel like he just pulls the chair out from under you in the biggest moments. The change from Fields to Cousins alone will make a massive difference with his end of year statline though. No question.

Who could have possibly predicted this?

You have to let a rookie sit the year, that is the proper formula for development, blah, blah, blah.  It only ever happens when starter is winning most of the games and playing well doing it.

The rest is just talk.  Top 5 pick?  Give him all the reps and just take your lumps in year 1.  He is going to play anyway and he is going to play without the offseason reps you could have gave him.

Can you ruin him if he takes too many hits behind a bad Oline?  Yeah probably.  But great ones get it by year 2 or 3 in most cases and team starts looking way better.

Rest of guys just have to find their grove with team 2 because they didn't learn fast enough.

The Rodgers, Mahomes and Love situation is rare.   To draft a guy high onto a good team and wait while on his rookie deal.  Most teams just won't do that.  Two of those were same franchise.  Third was with a coach with crazy job security and who had been coaching so long, probably didn't really care if he is fired anyway.

MN may have pulled it off this year.  I don't know how much value McCarthy is getting out for year injured.   Maybe it works out in Atl.

If McCarthy and Penix come out gangbusters next year, look for a bunch of teams to copy them in near future.  I still think it can work either way and is more about the person and the coaches and team than the method .  I personally will always prefer just to play the rookie and take your lumps.  But I would only draft really, really football smart QBs in top 3 which I think is way you want to handle people like that.

I would be dying a 1000 deaths right now if Caleb was on bench watching.  So much happier even with bad games.

Dude.  That is extreme.  I begged them not to trade for one year of Rodgers.

Technically it's been two years of Rodgers but only 6 games or whatever in terms of on field play.

I would've kept Saleh and let him finish the year. Their D is good year in year out. As the head coach he is ultimately responsible for the entire team, but their D is really good.

I thought he would likely play 1 year and retire.   He got to miss entire season so that doesn't count toward the year.

Still think that is probably what happens.

I don't know enough about Jets to say they shouldn't have fired him.  I can say they didn't look horrible this year.  There was a lot of good.

Rodgers had a bad game last game.

The Rodgers Saga is always fascinating.  I feel like if you let him sleep on your couch for a weekend, he'd end up staying for a month and your neighbor would be pregnant,  your car would need a transmission and somehow you'd end up signed up for all the channels on cable.  I figure it's 4 years tops before he's running for office.  That or he becomes a YouTuber.

**** me it's even weirder than expected

We're three weeks from Rodgers insisting that no one call plays and they just come to him with 5 seconds on the playclock

I think what happened here (totally my speculation) is that after that **** showing in Europe in what has been an otherwise incredibly forgettable year from Rodgers so far (they have the exact same number of points this year thru 5 games as last year - yikes) Saleh held him accountable (the one thing we know he can’t handle), and Rodgers got so pissed about it that he went over Saleh’s head about it to Woody Johnson and asked for him to be fired for it. Johnson, who admitted today to talking to Rodgers on Monday night but says it wasn’t about Saleh (riiiiiiiight, cuz QB/owner social calls on Mondays during the season are totes the norm), obliged. Finding out, Saleh was then escorted out of the facility rather than being allowed to address the team as is customary because they’re worried he wanted to give Rodgers a two piece.

I think I saw that theory was debunked by someone reputable- Schrager maybe- but it certainly went through my head too. Rodgers is just a b****

I don’t care what Schrager has to say - I’m going to continue to blissfully live in my world where Rodgers is a sports supervillain who gets the Bud Kilmer treatment at the end of the movie. In my head it’s Garrett Wilson as the one saying “The only way we’re going back on that field is without you.”
