Interesting. Sounds like he'd like to go for some stage victories. For sure he isn't a GC contender and will likely have to support Sagan in any major event. More of a classics specialist IIRC.

Kennaugh is an underrated rider. Not a GC guy like you say, but good enough to be a classics rider and possibly a guy who could win a stage race.

Didn't actually see that. Interesting. You think either of those have a shot next year?

I think the organisers need to remove a ITT and include more climbs TBH.

Dumoulin definitley has a chance. Barguil needs to improve his TT to have a chance. They won't remove TTs all together. They need more mountain top finishes, that was the problem this year.

Love Barguil. He reminds me of Michael Rasmussen but hopefully it doesn't end with him wearing yellow and then getting fired from his team and expelled mid tour haha.

Where's he headed?

And yea you can't remove TTs there was only like 30km of TT the entire tour.

Going to Fortuneo-Oscaro. They're a continental team who were at the Tour this year. Kristoff has also moved to UAE Team Emirates. Another potentially very big move.

Good move for him.

And yea Kristoff to UAE is big they seem like they wanna go all out with 2+ GC guys and a sprinter and be the new sky and they got a good one on deck.

Yeah, I think its a good move too. He's their GC guy for sure and he said he wanted to race for a French team.

I wonder what moves Sky are going to make? Nieve, Landa and Kennaugh are all very, very good riders. Will be tough to replace all of them. I wonder who Sky are after.

Right now I have no idea but they still have a very good team at this point in time. They may still consider Quintana either this year or next but again I have no idea how that would work out. He's also more or less been Froome's top rival the past few years and it would be like Kevin Durant joining the Warriors (if you follow basketball that was a thing haha).

They will likely try and find some diamonds in the rough and add some of the better super domestique's on the market with a clear emphasis on Froome going for #5 next year.

Yeah, Quintana to Sky is Durant to the Warriors haha. But even more ridiculous given that Sky win every year anyway.

True there is no perfect example but that was the closest thing I could come up with.

Also I am getting really excited for the Vuelta this year. I will not be rooting for Froome I'd actually like to see if Dumoulin go for his 2nd GT but I want to see if Froome can win this get a second GT win as obviously he likely won't have a real chance to ride the Giro.

Yeah, the Vuelta is going to be fantastic. Pretty much all of the major GC men will be there, minus Quintana.

Depending on how much the Tour took out of Froome, I think he will win it. My prediction is Froome, Nibali and Dumoulin on the podium. Dumoulin depends on how well he handles the massive climbs.

It will indeed. It will be tough for Dumoulin for sure I'd like to see him win it but I'm not banking on it.

Thats a solid prediction I guess we will have to see what Froome has left in the tank after the TDF win. I would probably pick him but Nibali should be good to go and may end up being his top contender. If I had to pick anyone against Froome in this race I'd go with him.

Do you think Froome hangs it up when he isn't really a good shot at the TDF Yellow Jersey or does he transition to like the 2nd GC guy and race the Giro then and not the Tour?

  • Indurain retired a year after winning his last TdF.
  • LeMond rode sporadically for his last 4 years after the '90 tour.
  • Merckx rode as team leader until his final year.
  • Hinault retired a year after winning his final TdF.

I'm not sure it's in these riders natures to play second fiddle.

Yeah, no way Froome rides on if he isn't the main GC man.

Bardet has confirmed that he's racing the Vuelta. Another GC guy to throw into the mix. This could be the stongest GC field we've seen for a while.

Also, Nieve has signed with Orica-Scott, who are assembling a very decent squad.
