Here is all the IDL line deals in the last 12 months:

  • Madubuike  - 24.5m per year
  • Williams - 24m per year
  • Simmons - 23.5m per year
  • Lawrence - 22.5m per year
  • Payne - 22.5m per year
  • Hargrave - 21m per year

You have to think that a new deal for Clark will cost somewhere in the 21-24m range also.

that is a pretty big contract to hand out on a 3rd contract.  I think I pass on that and look to add in the draft

Yeah it's a 3rd contract but he is only 29 and hasn't missed a game since 2020.

I think if you do 3 years for say 66m it can easily work out for both parties.

Agreed. Third contract for a DL is fine. It's not like a RB or something.

I think it's a no brainer to give Clark a new 3-year deal with a possible out after 2 years if it is needed.

Now it doesn't need to happen now but id say at some point before October it happens.

Less about age and more about the mileage.   Around 5600 snaps played facing a lot of double teams.

Can understand that but last year was arguably his best year since 2019. The mileage doesn't seem to be a problem.

It never seems to be until it is.

2024 isn't really the concern, it would be the extended contraxt years 2025+

Thats why any deal needs to include a way out. As it stands he has a 27.49m cap hit this year and would carry a 13.747m dead cap in 2025 so something needs to be worked out in the next 6-12 months.

Personally I think you see how he reports to camp and how he fits in the new defensive scheme and if its all good you give him the new deal with an out.

I would be much more in favor of seeing how the first 1/2 of 2024 goes before doing an extension with Clark.

Not really, Savage has the perfect skillset for this defense.

No, there are known names, most 30+. Usually that's around where players stsrt losing a step of top end speed and explosion. For S thatbcsn get pretty bad pretty quickly, and unless it's a 1-2 year bargain deal post draft, I'm just not a fan.

Also I think you are underselling Savage. To non GB people, he looks like one of the better FA S in this class.

yall need to go back and watch the Niners tape

and no, non GB people do not regard Savage as one of the better FA S's in this class.

i'm fine not bringing him back. overhaul the safety room

There are plenty of different lists and people value things differently.

That's true.  I just can't seem to find one that lists Savage among the top available safeties.

I see that PFF has Savage as their #13 FA safety and #148 available FA overall, so that's... something.

It's not a ranking but according to sportrac there are 61 FA S. Anything in the top 1/3 to me is definitionally "one of the better"
