Mazrimiv
How did the Ravens convince Bateman to sign that contract? I don't imagine they had to try very hard.

Seems more like a guy you may want to replace. He was as productive as Allan Lazard without Rodgers throwing him the ball.

By what cherry picked metric do you see Bateman's production as equal to Lazard's? Bateman's 3 years in BAL: 93 rec, 1167 yd, 4td Lazard's last 3 years in GB: 133 rec, 1752 yd, 17 td Lazard was also a monster blocker at the WR position. The one that counts all of his stats, not just the ones that make Lazard look competent. Lazard's first three years he had 69 catches for 935 yards and 6 TDs He averages a little over 400 yards a season for 6 years. He had Rodgers throwing to him. Bateman had Lamar throwing to him. Jackson has average UNDER 3000 yards passing in his last three years. Bateman's time on the team. Aaron Rodgers averaged OVER 400 yards in Lazard's years in Green Bay. Context matters a great deal. When you add it all up, Bateman is better than Lazard. Edited September 4 by Old Guy
Mazrimiv
Lazard was also a UDFA vs Bateman being a RD1 pick.

No, Lazard got paid because of his production in the years before he hit FA. Production which Bateman has not approached.

One of the two WRs we are talking about was benched and inactive for the final three games last year because he absolutely sucked. The other one was not. One other stat. Bateman missed 15 games in his first two years with injuries. Any guesses which one that was?

Mazrimiv
Bateman Best season: 46 rec, 515 yd, 11.2 yd/rec, 1 td 2nd best season: 32 rec, 367 td, 11.5 yd/rec, 1 td Lazard Best season: 60 rec, 788 td, 13.1 yd/rec, 6 td 2nd best season: 40 rec, 513 yd, 12.8 yd/rec, 8td Old Man: "Bateman has been just as productive as Lazard!" skibrett15
bateman just needs to have a healthy season and he could produce ok. Last year they didn't pass the ball to him because he had a bad foot injury he played through. If he hits the market I think he could have some success on a different team. ThatJerkDave
So why does Allen Lazard suck now? He was an 8 and 6 TD WR in his previous two seasons without Zach Wilson throwing him the ball. The Jets overpaying him is a Jets problem, not a Lazard problem. Give him a competent passer.

Allan Lazard doesn't suck, but neither does Bateman. The fact is Bateman would have gotten as much or on than Lazard on the open market. Lazard got what he got because Rodgers wanted him in NY. Since, Rodgers is the GM, he got a few of his buddies and overpaid them. Good for Rodgers, good for his buddies.
PossibleCabbage
i'm assuming Bateman signed the contract because his agent said it was a good idea because he's probably not going to see more money elsewhere this free agency cycle.
