He’s probably the 4th best player on a contender.  You can’t pay $100 mil for that.

Its not even that much money. Jeremi Grant got like $160M. Scrubs are getting paid what Kuz is. Its really not a big deal and its easy to get out of.

Easy to move at the trade deadline too, just like Poole’s contract.

Washington Wizards could use their trade exceptions to acquire more assets

https://wizofawes.com/2023/07/01/washington-wizards-use-trade-exceptions-acquire-assets/?utm_campaign=FanSided+Daily&utm_source=FanSided+Daily&utm_medium=email&sc=76406316b2034ef7cc9f40f04f8b84e0792debe356e0766e53610d69579d01e8

The Washington Wizards may have gotten a weak return for Monte Morris in the trade with the Detroit Pistons, but they were able to create a significant trade exception worth $9.8 million. This could be a key asset to add more talent or draft picks for the Wizards going forward.

A trade exception occurs when a team gives up more salary than it acquires in a trade. This “credit balance remains as an exception that can be used within the next year to acquire salary via trade without further relinquishing additional salary.”

This is exactly what the Washington Wizards accomplished with the Monte Morris trade. Now, they can add a salary of $9.8 million for the next 12 months without giving up anything.

The Wizards also have a $6.2 million trade exception that they generated in the Rui Hachimura trade at the 2022-23 trade deadline.

This opens the door for imbalanced trades where the Wizards can take on bad contracts from teams trying to shed salary. Washington can play a facilitator role in multi-team trades to take on any salary other teams don’t want in their books.

One example of such a trade was done by the Dallas Mavericks this offseason. After creating a $17 million trade exception by dumping Davis Bertans to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Mavericks used that “credit balance” to acquire Richaun Holmes’ unwanted contract worth $12 million a year from the Sacramento Kings. For their troubles, Dallas received Sacramento’s first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.”

Both Couli & Vuk are flashing in the summer league. Johnny Davis is a steady Eddie, he doesn’t look like he’s going to be anything more than a career role player. He’s a good defender & a decent offensive player but he’s not aggressive. He reminds me of a smaller version of Otto Porter but Porter eventually developed into a 3 & D player, let’s hope Johnny Davis can at least become that.

Both Couli & Davis have to improve their 3-point shooting, that much has been clear this preseason.

Davis is 3-10 from 3 in the summer league so far. He was 1-1 vs the Pacers, 2-7 vs the Celtics & 0-2 vs the Spurs, he has to shoot it better than that. If he hits a few more of his shots, he’s averaging 17-19 ppg in the Summer League instead of like 13.

Couli has great form, but he’s inconsistent & raw as a shooter. He’s a supreme athlete though and it shows on both side of the floor. Couli is only 1-10 from 3!!

Meanwhile, Nick Smith had 33 pts tonight for the Hornets and he looks like a straight up steal.

Smith was 4-5 from 3, had 4 rebs, 3 asts, 1 steal & 1 block.

Now that’s how top talented draft picks are supposed to dominate summer league guys!

I understand he fell in the draft bc of injury concerns but it’s quite shocking that he fell out of the top 10 and all the way to #27. I’m sure Michael Jordan is thrilled with what he’s seeing from Smith! I sure wish we had him with the way he played tonight, he looked like a young Bradley Beal out there.

Rollins & PBJ look like great pick ups in the CP3 trade who will come off the bench & give us good minutes for years to come. Rollins is a solid Pg, playmaker & defender. PBJ has a beautiful 3-pt stroke & looks like he’ll be a great scorer off the bench as a stretch 4.

Quenton Jackson has flashed some too, but he still looks like a GLeague player at this point. Maybe he makes it as one of the final guys on the roster but he’d probably be better off starting for the GoGo & getting to play 30 mpg in the GLeague.

Easiest bucket EVER 😂

Wizards some things never change? The guy they passed on in the draft (Jarace Walker) schooled them as they all watched him miss his 2nd free throw & then dunk it! Xavier Cooks is trying to say technical! Wtf? 😂 🤦‍♂️

The Wizards opened the game running hot on offense, leading to a 28-point first quarter that netted an eight-point advantage. The Thunder chipped two points from their deficit during the second period, but Washington’s lead was back up to eight going into the final period. The Wizards then imposed their will on both ends for much of the fourth quarter, closing the game out with a 27-19 edge in the last 10 minutes.

Davis paced the Wizards with 22 points on 52.9 percent shooting, including 75.0 percent from three-point range, and also produced three assists, two rebounds and one block.

Seventh overall pick Bilal Coulibaly logged 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and four blocks.

Ryan Rollins delivered 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals. Dejan Vasiljevic compiled 14 points, three boards and two assists off the bench.”
