  1. Mike McDaniel, Running-Game-OC 49ers was reportedly the Coach that Drank Beers with Josh Gordon on the plane ride that got him suspsended. McDaniel at that time was our Wide Receiver Coach. Robert Saleh has been absolute buttcheeks with talented defensive players for years and is just having a standout year this year. He's rah rah on the sideline, but is not known for a systematic plans and high-level leadership. If he becomes our front-runner, I personally will save up my daughters diapers in a storage container out back, load that container on a flatbead, then I'll get in the driver's seat of said truck and proceed to ram the Berea headquarters gate and drop said feces on the front door of Berea HQ. Just Say No to the Hot Name Coordinator.... for the love of goodness.. I can't do it again..
  2. One name that surfaced today in connection with Wade Phillips, DC and Joe Lombardi, QBC/OC is Dennis Allen, the current DC New Orleans Saints. He had a terrible time as Head Coach in Oakland going 8-28. HC: Dennis Allen; QBC/OC: Joe Lombardi; DC: Wade Phillips He loves analytics and has been known to have the ability to wow owners. If he gets in the room with truckstop Jimmy, he may win him over quickly and convince him he's going to bring the Saints system to Cleveland.
  3. It's happening ... isn't it? Lol. Let the insanity cycle commence... Insanity Cycle in 6 Parts: 1.) Hire Hot Name Coordinator 2.) Realize Hot Name Coordinator Doesn't Have the Depth Ability to Build a Winning Program/Culture/Habits 3.) Start to Realize You Hired a Guy That's Not a Head Coach 4.) Fire Head Coach 5.) Have Paints Tingle at the Sight of New Hot Name Coordinators 6.) Hire Hot Name Coordinator 7.) Repeat Steps 2-6
  4. If it's a teenager or someone in their 20s that has critical maturing events, then yeah they can definitely grow out of that. But McDaniels I think was 34 years old at the time. If you do that at 34 years old, it'll likely be a part of you at 42. Maybe it's been overcome to some extent but it may reveal a core aspect of personality.
  5. Coleman was an analytics and consensus pick. Kizer was the last QB standing and at 52 in the 2nd the consensus was on taking that gamble. Tearing down the house to get 90 Million wasn't hard at all. Anyone can bulldozer a house. It's building the foundation and house that is the difficult part.
  6. The football guys over analytics thing has always been ridiculous for sure. Their coaching preferences were right indeed, and that's why I believe there's a vital place for DePodesta in this organization. But having say/power in coaching searches is much different than having say regarding personnel decisions. I'm not quite sure that I see those drafts or personnel decisions as all that favorable. Dorsey has had his misses as well but Jabrill Peppers and David Njoku over all-pros like Ryan Ramcyk, Tre'Davious White, and TJ Watt in the 1st is different than missing on 4th-7th rounders. I'm also not sure Ogbah and Nassib are hits in the true sense of draf evaluation. If those 4 players (Peppers, Njoku, Ogbah, and Nassib) don't really hit their draft record is abysmal. It's not too hard to whiff on the Myles Garrett at 1.
  7. I don't see the two as similar imo. As the article states "bitching about the food, cafeteria, the field, the equipment" in private to his father and subsequently having his father fix it is completely different to me than asserting power over those without it on a daily and berating janitorial and service staff. To my knowledge, Kyle Shanahan has never been reported to have done any of that. If you listen to Joel Bitionio, Andrew Hawkins, and Joe Thomas had to say about their time with Kyle, it's clear that he's awkward but he's able to connect with players on a one on one basis. Maybe McDaniels can do that now as well. But the other stuff is really concerning to me at least.
  8. Talked to my b.i.l. this morning about candidates and he convinced me that I don't want Josh McDaniels high on my list as he let me know about the smoke and fire during his Broncos tenure that some of his personnel exec buddies witnessed first hand in Denver. I had previously heard that McDaniels was an "egomaniac" via media reports, but I had never heard about some of the ridiculous things like imploding/berating janitorial and service staff, as well as shaming and berating lower level administrators on the daily as a way to express his frustrations. To me, how you treat service people or people with less power than you is s a core personality trait that you don't simply mature from once you're in your 30s. Also, there was the info regarding how McDaniels would walk all over the GM and attempted to get the GM fired with daily political back-stabbing moves by falsifying reports and presenting them to various members in the ownership group. Key veterans on the team thought McDaniels was a brilliant X's and O's coach, but couldn't connect with players at all even on a one on one level. Some players even from New England felt Josh didn't have it as a HC because he was unable to be relatable like Belichick can be in private with players. McDaniels is a brilliant coordinator, but after the conversation.. he's off my list. I know for some it might be ridiculous to take a guy out of consideration for how he treats service or lower level employees in an organization, but to me that's a fatal flaw that reveals core ***-h*le-ism that likely bleeds over into other aspects of the person. His political games and inability to work with others, as well as inability to connect with players from a HC position is problematic as well.
  9. **** Now that Berry has returned, I'm changing this thread around to a more forward looking thread about Berry but leaving the old OP *** ------------------------------------ John Dorsey deserves plenty of criticism regarding decisions he's responsible for. However, the disdain for Dorsey has led a lot of people to distort the record of the Sashi/DePodesta/Berry Era. There's so much revisionist history going on regarding the DePo, Sashi, and Andrew Berry Era it has my head spinning. They are all brilliant and shepherded us through a well-organized historic 2-year tank in order for us to accumulate draft capital Even taking into account that the goal was to tank and build through the draft, their overall personnel decisions an evaluations were not good at all. There's a place for Paul DePodesta in our organization as a lead strategist who has more power in a coaching search and advising draft strategy/personnel decisions, but giving him final say over football decisions or evaluation would be a mistake. ----- 2016 NFL Draft: 1 15 Corey Coleman WR Baylor 2 32 Emmanuel Ogbah DE Oklahoma State 3 65 Carl Nassib DE Penn State 3 76 Shon Coleman T Auburn 3 93 Cody Kessler QB USC 4 99 Joe Schobert OLB Wisconsin 4 114 Ricardo Louis WR Auburn 4 129 Derrick Kindred SAF Texas Christian 4 138 Seth DeValve WR Princeton 5 154 Jordan Payton WR UCLA 5 168 Spencer Drango G Baylor 5 172 Rashard Higgins WR Colorado State 5 173 Trey Caldwell DB Louisiana-Monroe 7 250 Scooby Wright LB Arizona 2016 Coaching Search Evaluations: 1.) 11. I don't want a HC-Coordinator. I'd love a pure HC who was an expert coordinator. That coach could then put his stamp on the offense and defense like Belichick. Then, the Head Coach could help build a sustainable group of coaches that could all serve vital OC/DC roles so the team can sustain success if those coordinator leave for elsewhere.
  12. I have no clue on whether Favre has a favorable opinion of him, but if he does it would certainly help if we decided McCarthy was the guy. I think McCarthy was QB coach in the 90s and was there Favre's final year I think.
  13. As long as he doesn't bring along Brad Childress (as was rumored before) to be anywhere close to Baker Mayfield. Childress has no emotional or self-control... it did make his press conferences about Favre in Minnesota legendary. I lived in Minnesota for two years and there's not a coach in NFL history that threw their players under the bus more times and fed the media more chum than Childress. Childress is a great offensive mind, but he's not a fit for what we need with this team at all. Mayfield's idol is Favre. Once he finds out how much Favre despises Childress, Baker likely will manifest similar opinions. In the end though, what about Stefanski says he can lead an organization and culture.... why can't we hire someone that has done it before and had success....
  14. Brady retires... Belichick returns to finish what he started.... ... but the Haslam's break off the contract negotiations and instead give Bill Cowher the Gruden deal x2.... It's happening...
  15. Now this... ^^^ this guy's dialed in ... ... a comment with a little touch of comedic finesse... ... F-everyone else for that Rooney rule ****. ... lol
  16. Meant of the bad retread variety... the retread tire that's not worth a damn not the one that some life in it...
  17. Freddie Kitchens is going to get millions upon millions of dollars for the next 2 years to sit at home and be a stay at home dad watching his daughters grow up if he so chooses. Or if he so chooses he can get back into coaching right away. His dream was to be a head coach and losing that has to be beyond tough for him, but there exponentially worse than being paid millions for 2-3 years to do whatever you want to do. The only questions that remains is: Can we get this process right this time? Or will we fall into the hot name coordinator bullsh** trap again? Or hire a retread? This is the most important hire. We have a young core and talent to turn things around soon.
  18. Whether the Broncos won or not didn't matter as they had a higher strength of schedule. When the Cardinals lost we secured the 10th pick at that moment. Trade 10th and our 3rd round pick to get Wills, Wirfs, or Thomas. If not, trade it to make sure we get AJ Epenesa. Trade up again from our position in the 2nd round to get Prince Tega-Wenagho, LT Auburn at the top of the 2nd or bottom of the 1st. 1st Round Pic k(Trade Up if We Must): Jedrick Wills Jr, OT Alabama // Tristan Wirfs, OG/OT Iowa // Andrew Thomas, LT Georgia // AJ Epenesa, DE Iowa 2nd Round Pick (Trade Up if We Must): Prince Tega-Wenagho, LT Auburn // Shane Lemieux, OG Oregon // Netane Muti, OG Fresno State // Julian Okwara, DE-Convert Notre Dame // Javon Kinlaw, DT South Carolina // One of the 10 WRs with Pro-Bowl Upside
  19. Damnit... Henry with 100 yards with 7 minutes left in 3rd Quarter. ... almost 2 quarters to get 66 yards ... Chubb got screwed over... 13 carries...
  20. 2020 Off-Season 1st Round Mock Draft 1.0: 1.) Bengals --- Joe Burrow, QB LSU 2.) Washington --- Chase Young, DE Ohio State 3.) Detroit --- Jeffrey Okudah, CB Ohio State 4.) Giants --- Andrew Thomas, LT Georgia 5.) Dolphins --- Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama 6.) Chargers --- Tristan Wirfs OG/OT, Iowa 7.) Panthers --- Jedrick Wills Jr., OT Alabama 8.) Jaguars --- Kristian Fulton, CB LSU 9.) Cardinals --- CeeDee Lamb, WR Oklahoma 10.) Browns --- AJ Epenesa, DE Iowa // Netane Muti, LT/OG Fresno State ------- I think it's going to be a close one at 10th overall when it comes to if Wirfs or Wills falls to us. I doubt it. What can be said is that so long as we stay away from the insanity of drafting a Safety or Safety/Hybrid at 10, we're going to have our pick of really amazing players. That sad news is that we'll likely just be out of reach for the elite 3 OLineman (Thomas, Wirfs, Wills). It would be a mistake to reach on Alex Leatherwood, Josh Jones, or Austin Jackon at that point in the draft. I love Prince Tega-Wanogho but 10 is too far for him as well. Hopefully Epenesa or Netane Muti gets to us. Those would be fantastic picks although Muti has injury concerns that are going to make putting a top 10 pick on him difficult for many. He's just that special though. This is the best WR class ever so spending the pick on CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy or another top WR wouldn't make much sense, but man it would add a special dynamic to this offense. We're also likely in a prime spot for teams that fall in love with Justin Herbert as the 3rd QB. We need him to do well during the process so he could either be trade bait or top 9 outright in order to push players we'd like to us. If we trade down, we might as well do so multiple times and target Prince Tega-Wanogho, one of the elite WRs, or Julian Okwara later in the 1st. The quality at 10 though should give us pause at trading down as honestly the caliber of player available should see us just take one off the board. The question I have is would I trade our 2nd 3rd round pick for the right to get Wirfs or Wills Jr.? Or even Epenesa? I say absolutely. And that's exactly the plan we should take. We have a shot at getting Epenesa, Wills Jr., or Wirfs if we trade our 3rd and something else to move up a few spots. That's what we should do to make sure we get an elite impact player at high impact position for our roster.
  21. Heading into today Denver's strength of schedule was 6th and ours was 8th. I think with us losing to the Bengals and them playing the Raiders that means that even if the Broncos lose we'd get the higher pick. So, it looks like 10th overall is the floor. If somehow the Cardinals win, our pick would be 9th overall.
  22. Just give me a Head coach who can be a Head coach and has past winning experience in that role. Can we please stop the insanity of hot name coordinators turned into first time head coaches? Please... no mas..
