The frustrating thing about our 4-4 record is the complicated fault built into it.

Flacco, outside of some dumb decisions in today's game and in the Bengal game, has been playing good football. We have no running game and the play calling by Marty has been largely horrible. The pass protection is average, and Special Teams have been a let down this year. He isn't Brees, Rodgers, or Brady but he isn't the issue. So if QB play isn't the issue....what is?

The Defense? We're considered the top defense in the god damn League.....

Talent? We've played better with worse players at multiple positions.

The issue is these severe dips in execution and coaching, and it's inexcusable.

Situational luck and abhorrent reffing has f*cked us, but good teams overcome. There's just no excuse.

Well, just as the Bengals we are a team with 3-5 plays going the right or wrong direction and that decides the outcome of the game and in the end playoffs or bust. Breaking down the losses, against the Bengals we dug ourselves af great hole which was too difficult to get out of. That was honestly on the coaches and defense.

Against the Browns it was the oline/offense that didn't perform, and a turnover by flacco in the red zone and a missed catch by Crabtree turned a win into a loss.

The Saints was a trial by combat and all their 4-1 conversions and great spots by the referees and a missed extra point again turned a almost win to a loss.

And against the Panthers we just lost the game in every facett of the game. We had 2 bad games, lost 2 close games and won 4. If 2 plays goes right against the Saints and Browns we could be 6-2 and we would be extremely happy and confident. Now we lost in a very bad way and it is difficult to see how we have the talent to be relevant.

its the inconsistency that kills us, because we proved we have the talent to play on a very high level. Unfortunately the floor has been to low on all sides of the ball, and we haven't been as good as other teams adjusting to the new special teams rule.

If we win next week, and we go into the bye, get healthy, get out of the bye and win again, we suddenly look good.

Short term solutions:

  • Judon needs to come out in favor of Tim Williams, on a regular basis.

I actually believe Judon did a good job today - both against the run and pass (rush and coverage). I don’t understand why we drop him so much from LOS but he does a admirable job in coverage.

On another note, the decline of Mosley is crazy. I was one of his fans going into this season and believed we should pay him top 4 MLB money but this game really showcased the limitations in his game. The defense has been largely dysfunctional the last few weeks, which Mosley certainly is a big part of.

I feel like I'm shouting at a wall every week when the snap counts come out:

Tim Williams at 18%(!!!!) is just so stupid it hurts. TYUS BOWSER OUTSNAPPED HIM. TYUS. BOWSER. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?!?!

Levine playing 17% of snaps despite being probably the best matchup to cover McCaffrey besides Kenny Young (who also played 38% of snaps, which is better).

Judon of course getting his 60% snap share ahead of Za'Darius Smith (55%). Suggs still well above 60% despite literally being invisible yesterday.

At some point we've got to change things up with snap counts, because our current rotation of guys is not working. Z. Smith and Tim Williams are our best pass rushers, and are playing significantly less than Judon and Suggs. Levine and Kenny Young need to be on the field more because CJ Mosley is borderline a wasted spot on the field at this point since he doesn't even have the green dot any longer.

And with all the DL depth we've drafted over the past 4 years, nobody besides Michael Pierce (UDFA) seems to be making any sort of impact. Urban and Wormley are garbage and Brandon Williams has been invisible outside of committing penalties.
