He's a freak athlete. He could be good with coaching/effort.

Defense is so much more than being an elite athlete and being explosive doesn't mean you have great lateral quickness. Which is why someone like Joe Ingles is a great perimeter defender and guys that are much more athletic struggle. Dude was getting toasted by fringe D1 athletes on a nightly basis at Murray State.

Defense is legit 75% effort. Kyrie had flashes of good defense on the Celtics because Stevens got him to buy in last year, its literally effort level. Ja is more than athletic enough to become a good defender IF he wants to.

Basketball IQ and lateral quickness are both huge parts of defense as well though. Dude was legit getting beat by scrubs every single night playing against one of the 10 easiest schedules in college basketball. Not to mention only the 2nd player in the modern draft era to average 5+ TO per game and get picked in the first round...

How many players averaged over 10 APG?

And 20 PPG on top of that?

Sexton played with nobody’s in college. He had to shoot. Rj played with 2 lottery players and still wouldn’t pass to them. He held Zion and duke back.

Duke was one of the worst shooting teams in the country last year and had terrible spacing. Reddish wasn't good like at all, Duke was playing 2 on 5 most of the time offensively. But nice box score scouting.
