Jamieโ€™s Winston is as consistent as Ryan Fitzpatrick with a slower release. Worse mechanics and lower IQ. He has a stronger arm and is bigger. But thatโ€™s it.ย

so whats your opinion on what they should do??ย ย

Taking a step back and thinking big picture...

- We benched a 24 year old QB for having a couple of horrible games coming off of a suspension to start the year and an injury hit third season.

- We turned to a 35ย year old QB who has flattered to deceive his entire career after 2 and a halfย historically good games.ย

- Weโ€™ve stuckย with him despite the poor games heโ€™s had since then, including 5 turnovers in the last 2 games.

The season is over at this point. Thereโ€™s no reason to stick with Fitz because he is what heโ€™s always been - heโ€™ll turn in some outrageously good performances and then heโ€™ll go back to beingย the guy whoโ€™s never really caught on anywhere. Heโ€™s not the future, so why should he be the present?

The short term answer is either going back to Winston, or seeing what Griffin has.

Winston appeared mentally cooked in his last game, but maybe playing with no pressure on him due to the season being over will be beneficial. Griffin is a complete unknown and probably isnโ€™t the answer, but weโ€™ll never know until we try, right?

Worst case scenario, we get a definitive on the future at QB for better or worse, plus a high draft pick.

I donโ€™t think the Glazers are concerned about being on the hook for this $20m of Winston gets injured. Theyโ€™ll free up that much cap space by getting rid of the deadwood on this team anyway.

WE could also spin it and say Fitz sucked because Dirk was calling plays.....

True, but Winston always got the criticism for his performance in these types of games, so I donโ€™t see why Fitz should be any different.

The truth is that Koetter calls terrible games far too frequently to be considered a good offensive coach. Calling an offence is tough and you kinda just need to take whatโ€™s there/ hope the guys execute, but we make baffling play call after baffling play call far too often.

Take last season as an example. Ball at the 1, call โ€œthe tossโ€, Quizz loses 6 yards immediately and I think we settled for a FG. We arenโ€™t a physical team, which is why I have no expectation that weโ€™ll punch it in up the gutย from the 1.

Thatโ€™sย on the guy whoโ€™s offence it is.ย

Dirk made his bed with Fitz. His initial hiring was based on developing Winston which at this point has been a failure. Once he went to Fitz he is stating that he failed at his initial goal which was to develop Jameis (which isn't all his fault, but he did have a hand in) his only other choice was to win. Which he hasn't done so far. Thats a recipe for an instant firingย

Why does dirk get the blame for not developing Jamieโ€™s? You see in hard knocks how he was trying the coach the โ€œstupidโ€ out of him. It didnโ€™t click. Jamies failed as much as he didnโ€™t get it. He couldnโ€™t translate to the nfl bc he was like that at Florida state. He had issues with reading coverages and decision making.ย

Hes worse in the nfl bc guys are faster in the nfl than in the acc.ย

Truth is guys, we wonโ€™t be relevant until the Glazers sell the team.

They simply canโ€™t identify competent people to run their sports teams. Failed GM/HC hire after failed GM/HC hire.

You just need to look at how theyโ€™ve ran Man United into the ground by appointing the wrong person to run the footballing side of things. Theyโ€™ve stuck with the sameย chief exec since 2013, despite bad transfer windows and disastrous managerial appointments.

They've got a great acumen for the business side of things, but time and time again we see them make the wrong appointments.

They need to hire a football ops guy. Arians could be that guy ?ย

Idk what happens with Jameis going forward but your arguement canโ€™t be Dirk tried to coach the stupid out of him. Who tried to coach the stupid out of Dirk for running an air raid offense through a QB who has never been accurate deep? Blind leading the blind. Letโ€™s try with a new coach for one season.

Not at 20-21 million.ย

He still throws picks off of short routes. Letโ€™s be real. Stop blaming coaching on Jamieโ€™s bc this is who he was and itโ€™s not going to change.ย

I think some of you are trying to justify saving Jamieโ€™s bc you all canโ€™t admit Mariota was the better pick :)ย

Give him a Coughlin type role. I wouldn't be opposed to something like that. He'd basically be a second GM.

We need to try something different because what we've been doing the last 15 years isn't working.

Fitz also has been in the league ten years longer so that is expected. Mentally Fitz is ahead of him and nots not even close. But as far as physical talent Winston has him beat easily. Unfortunately, 50% of the game is mental and another piece is physical.
