Week 17 Colts vs. Titans

It'll be interesting to see what the coaching staff does without Casey. Ryan being out hurts too obviously but Sims coming in as a replacement in nickel isn't nearly as big of a drop off as Casey to whoever takes his snaps, as Sims is actually, IMO anyway, a starting caliber corner/#3 type guy in this league. At the very least he's gotta be one of if not the best #4 corner in the NFL. After Casey on the d-line we've got a bunch of nothing.

Without Marcus Mariota, Delanie Walker, Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin and Dennis Kelly going in to the Houston game early this season the offense somehow managed to do just enough to get us the win with a remarkable gameplan/coaching, even playing pretty well late in the game on two must have drives(I still don't think Gabbert gets nearly enough credit for his performance in that game. Gabbert was really rough coming in for relief against the Colts(though in fairness to him, the entire team was rough..), but against Houston this year and last week vs Washington he stepped up pretty big). Can Vrabel and Pees come up with something like how Vrabel and LaFleur did for week 2? Guess we'll find out.

Casey is the one guy, other than Mariota, that’s indispensable. He’s just far better than anyone else on the DL and just sets the tone for the front 7 as a whole. He’s a one-man pass rush and that’s super important for a team that struggles to generate a pass rush without blitzing.

I know that a lot of our other DL roles are to take up space and free up lanes for other guys, so they’re hard to evaluate, but you don’t ever really hear Jones, Johnson or Logan’s names. They’re ghosts.

This is worse than losing Delanie for me, and that was devestating. But after a while we found ways to get production out of the TE position. We don’t have the benefit of time to learn how to play without Casey, nor do we have a backup we can really trust in.
