I'm just dumbfounded as to how this could be the case with his injury yet we were still letting him go practice. Surely the team medical staff isn't that careless?

And if this is the case and they for whatever reason weren't concerned about hurting it further in practice, why even have him take reps from Gabbert?

The difference between throwing drills in practice and getting hit/landed on.

I'm assuming the torn plantar fasciitis plays a role in the decision as well... As his mobility may be compromised (only 3 rushes the past 2 games may have been more a result of the injury than just game flow/situation.)

If he doesn't play he doesn't play. This game was going to be about team from the jump.

No Casey. No Ryan. No Orakpo. Limited Marcus if he played.

This game was/is going to be about coaches with a great game plan. Players playing insipred and a crowd being more than they've been in years.

Gabbert can do this. He has done this already twice this year. This offense allows the QB to be not top level and still produce. You seen it in SF.

Be honest, some of you didn't like the chances with Marcus anyway.

But if you don't want to tune in, cool. I'll be there. Can't wait. No one player has been bigger than the Titans to me. Always about this team. Love them.

Gabbert can do it.

I get the disappointment... But to try to compare Mariota playing in a live game to him throwing a pass in no intact drills or clapping (freaking clapping, are you kidding me?! Lol) is ridiculous.

The Titans were worried enough to contact an independent specialist, and their concern is the future. They obviously still see Mariota in the plans for at least the next year or 2, and aren't willing to sacrifice that for one game, no matter the game.

And you know I'm starting to imagine a world without him in Titans blue. If he can't go here I think he won't go anywhere. They want him long term like you said.

If this is something that can't be repaired then his career might be done.

But to me there is a time for that and it isn't now lol.  It's all about team and Gabbert under center.

It still brings the question as to why you're having him take reps from Gabbert. Unless it's just trying to mess with the Colts head, which I mean is whatever I guess, not sure how much of an advantage that really gives.

There's also the weird idea that damage to the nerve today could cause long term damage to Mariota, but he might be good to go in the playoffs. I'm not a doctor but it feels weird to me that 6 or 7 extra days of rest would take this from a "he might not be able to throw long term if it gets hurt again" to "oh he's fine to play now".

Whole situation is just weird.

I know I shared this when it first happened to Mariota, but I had a friend who experienced nerve damage at work. He was frustrated cuz the doc kept. Telling him to come back the following month, but there was no progress... And the doctor's response was that he didn't know when the feeling would go back, if ever. He could use his hand, shake hands, type (he was working light duty), etc... But he couldn't feel his hand, which danger in the field cuz he could hurt himself and not know it. One day it just came back. No warning sign, nothing... He had just about lost hope.

Nerves are just that weird and unpredictable.

I'm assuming that the nerves are out of place or inflamed, exposing them to me damage. They could go down at any point, at which time, risk for long term damage decreases. I'm by no means in the medical profession, heck i avoid doctors like the plague... But that's what I learned second hand from nerve damage.

Marcus or no Marcus, Derrick Henry is the player that moves the needle in this game for sure. Lights out defense will also be a key. Where Gabbert gets into trouble, though, is when he has to put the team on his shoulders, this is when the INTs start arriving. So, if we can limit the Colts to 14 points or less in the first half, and Derrick Henry gets off to a good start, then we will have a chance at being competitive in this game.

Mariota was literally clapping normally in the locker room after the game looking just fine, had 3 days of practice, and a week to rest .... this pisses me off.

Because clapping is the same as having a 300 pound d-lineman is the same? That's delusional.

Agree with most that at this point we can't count on him being the guy. But hand-clapping seriously... 🙄

There's now an added confusion by, according to Paul, the Titans are gonna work out Mariota tonight to see if he can go. Like, what? Paul's source almost has to be wrong.

Any player that's inactive but physically can get some kind of work out. It may be no more than that, and Paul's source is just trying to butter it up a bit.

I am disappointed about Marcus not playing but what can we do Titans may have to look for the next guy in the next couple of years only because that injury isn’t going away.

As for tonight I still want in the playoffs. It won’t happen because we have to many injuries but I’m hoping atleast Gabbert anyway can play like Nick Foles did last year. I don’t expect 500 yards passing in games but just protect the ball make enough throws and tonight’s game the O-Line Henry and Lewis have to come up big especially the O-Line they need to give Gabbert time to throw

We've seen reports be wrong about who is playing and who isn't.

Remember the 2 QB system that the Titans were going to run earlier in the year that people wanted Vrabel fired for even thinking lol.

Doesn't sound like he will play but won't surprise me at all if he plays after a good workout.

I feel he will dress for sure.

No, clapping and having a 300 pd d-lineman sit on you is not the same. But usually when a part of your body is affected by an injury, you don’t nonchalantly use that body part following a game ending injury you suffered 2 hours earlier.

And this is what I'm saying.

It's about more than one player. The line needs to block. The linebackers need to stop the run. Adoree needs not to get whipped by TY.

It's been about team effort all year. Doesn't stop now.

But to your point earlier, KT, there was doubt (even if Mariota was fully healthy) that he would get us over the hump in this game.

So, I agree with you. A healthy and injury free Gabbert is a much better option than a scared and nerve damaged Mariota in this game. If Mariota is as hurt as the reports are putting out, then Gabbert gives us the best shot. And, on the bright side, at least were not relying on Matt Cassel for a game of this magnitude.
