No progressions at all there. Both throws looked at the first read and never moved his head... The QB needs to be better or it's going to be another long season.

Did...did you see the play designs? They were meant to be one read RZ throws. The last one especially for Ferguson. Davis ran a lazy route short of the goal line trying to draw the man in the middle down. The other two dudes just stopped their routes for no reason.

Mertz needs to be better but Chryst...once again...is doing him no favors. Zero aggression and zero easy designs. Everything is slow developing. You could have Mahomes out there and it wouldn't matter right now. Penn State's defense knows the play designs as they are being ran. It's obvious with #13 just chilling in the spot, both times, that the ball was meant to go to. Everything is in the middle of the field.

Like, I know Mertz hasn't been good but that's not the point. The point is that it's ALWAYS like this when we have a shaky QB. Doesn't matter if it is Hornibrook, Houston, Coan or Mertz. It's always an inside run on first down and we get stuck in obvious passing situations so the defense can pin their ears back and pressure the QB. Literally nothing PC is doing is going to help out a struggling QB.

What happened to pass when you want to, not when you have to? PC only passes when he has to and that plays right into the defense's hands.
