I don't have Madden 19. What does it do exactly? Slow down the progression, or do some players that don't fit get worse?

Each scheme has player archetypes for each position.  Like all of my Oline is designated Power.  If a player is the right archetype for your scheme you get a 30% boost to player xp.  I have drafted for my scheme, switching now doesn’t work.

So if that's the case and remembering from the beginning that you had a scrub QB win ROY in the first season of this, maybe you don't need to pay him.

I think the biggest issue I have right now is that Joe Mixon was a big part of my offense and I replaced him with McBride, who quite frankly hasn’t been very good.  If I’m going to be run heavy I have to have a stud RB.

TRADE DEADLINE UPDATE - YEAR 6

Well I'm currently an abysmal 2-4-1 at the deadline.  The only setback I've had is that HB McBride has been out injured again, but seeing as how he hasn't performed that great anyways that shouldn't have impacted me that much.  My team stats say I have the 8th most offensive yards in the league but my defense is 24th, which I find hard to believe.  This was a playoff roster last year, Madden sim logic is at it again.

So everyone in the thread wants me to change schemes.  I'm not willing to make wholesale changes, but there is a scheme that is very similar that might be better for passing.

I'll be switching from the West Coast Power Run Scheme to the Vertical Power Run Scheme.  It actually says my roster is a better scheme fit for the vertical one as currently constructed.  Here's the differences:

QB: Currently (Improviser, 90), New Scheme (Strong Arm, 88)

HB: Currently (Power Back, 64), New Scheme (Power Back, 64)

FB: Currently (Utility, 86), New Scheme (Blocking, 90)

WR: Currently (Route Runner, 76 & 72), New Scheme (Deep Threat, 82 & 79)

TE: Currently (Possession, 86), New Scheme (Vertical Threat, 83)

LT: Currently (Power, 90), New Scheme (Pass Protector, 89)

LG: Currently (Power, 88), New Scheme (Power, 88)

OC: Currently (Power, 81), New Scheme (Power, 81)

RG: Currently (Power, 80), New Scheme (Power, 80)

RT: Currently (Power, 75), New Scheme (Pass Protector, 74)

*The numbers shown are my Starters OVRs at that archetype.

As you can see this doesn't shift the scheme that much.  The QB difference is negligible.  My WRs are actually much better as deep threats.  My TE is a solid vertical threat.  The interior of the Oline goes untouched.  My Rookie RT will need some work, but Superstar LT Luther is a beast in any scheme.  The main whole is HB, which shown is McBride.  He's just a terrible fit as a power back.  He should probably be a change of pace back for me.

I'm going to change my playbook too.  Instead of running John Gruden's old school running playbook I'll shift to the Ravens modern playbook which has pistol sets and more shotgun formations.  This should give QB Witman more room to run.  The downside is it could remove snaps from FB McCauley.

This probably won't salvage the season but I'm curious what the changes will do.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS

DT Derek Tripp (95) - 5 year deal, $7.8 mil salary, $8.25 mil SB, $12.5 Y1 cap hit - $84.00 mil Total Contract

- Hes the reining DPOY of the year, and some of you are going to say this is not a realistic contract for a guy that was just the best defensive player in the league, and my response to that is, you're right.  He probably should have wanted $100+ mil, but I'm not going to kill myself trying to figure out fair market value for all of these guys.  He wanted $80 mil, I gave him $80.  I will point out his $16.8 mil average per year is right in line with the top of the market IRL.

LT Titus Luther (91) - 5 year deal, $8.9 mil salary, $5.15 mil SB, $10 Y1 cap hit - $70 mil Total Contract

- He's the best player on my Oline by a longshot and one of the top 5 players on my roster overall.  Great to get him locked up.

ROLB Jacolby Baptiste (84) - 5 year deal, $6.5 mil salary, $3.54 mil SB, $7.11 Y1 cap hit - $50 mil Total Contract

- He's one of my biggest success stories in the draft.  Former 6th round pick who gained Superstar Dev.  He's a tackling machine.

So after these 3 major contracts I have $32.3 mil left in cap space.  Now you can see why I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on a mega QB extension.  However, I need to mention that QB Witman's 5th year option is already counting $22.8 mil against the cap this year.

Oh and QB Witman has also changed his tune and now wants a 6-year $191 mil contract.  I think I'm going to see how this season plays out first, I'll probably franchise tag him in the offseason.

CB Vernon Hargreaves (80) - No offer

- He only wants a 1-year $4 mil offer which isn't crazy, but he'll be 30 next year and there's always a ton of CBs available in FA if I need one.

OC Billy Price (82) - 2 year deal, $5.5 mil salary, $2.65 mil SB, $7.39 Y1 cap hit - $16.2 mil Total Contract

- Until I have replacement there's no reason not to bring him back.  He turns 30 next year so I need to start looking for a long term option in the draft.

WR Auden Tate (80) - no offer

- He's been a productive player for me, and he's just 27, but he's fallen to #4 on my depth chart and will be too expensive for that role.

HB Bryce Love (79) - no offer

- I like Bryce Love but he's just a backup and there's always a million RBs in FA and the draft.  I can get someone cheaper, he wants $3+ mil per season.

DT Andrew Billings (78) - 1 year deal, $3.8 mil salary, $1.50 mil SB, $5.25 Y1 cap hit - $5.25 mil Total Contract

- If I don't bring Billings back I potentially open up a big hole on my Dline.  I need to look for a replacement for him as he'll be 30 next year.  On a 1-year deal he doesn't hurt my long term cap.

CB Keion Crossen (78) - 1 year deal, $1.5 mil salary, 900k SB, $2.35 Y1 cap hit - $2.35 mil Total Contract

- He'll be 29 next year, but I'm already letting Hargreaves walk and don't want to lose that many pieces in the secondary in one offseason.  Besides, this is cheap.

RG Dudley Clark (77) - no offer

- He's a backup that wants $4.5 mil per year.  Backup Olineman are really easy to find in the draft.

DT Andrew Brown (75) - no offer

- I really want to make an effort to bring in some new talent at DT this offseason, so I'm letting Brown walk.  He'll be 29 next year.

OC Jabari Anthony (74) - no offer

- Same as Clark, its just cheaper to draft backup Olineman.

TE Kurt Warner (71) - no offer

- He's never really done anything for me, he's always been 4th string.

LG Rashad Hogan (68) - 3 year deal, 950k salary, $200k SB, $914k Y1 cap hit - $3.45 mil Total Contract

- I signed him as a UDFA.  Cheap backup.

I was up in almost every category except Rushing yards Allowed, which I was still top 10 in, and Sacks dipped which made sense since Carl Lawson left.  PPG and TYA stayed the same from last year.  Statistically I was a better team than last year.

So lets start with QB Witman since everyone is interested in his pending FA.  His 3,810 passing yards with 14th in the NFL, by far his most in his career.  His 38 passing TDs were #1 in the NFL, pretty impressive.  His 8 Ints were tied for 8th.  He was 9th in the league with 70% completion rate.  His 8.6 ypa were 6th in the league.  By every stat he's probably a top 10 QB now.

HB McBride wasn't horrible but he got injured again.  I think a legitimate franchise RB is a need for me still.

WR Bartell had my first 1,000 yard receiving season.  He was 11th in the NFL in receiving yards.  His 14 TDs led the league.

WR McKee, TE Beachum & WR Lunsford all had good seasons as well.

The defensive stats were weird.  All of my top tacklers were secondary players.  Rookie MLB Covington should of had 100+ tackles, IDK what happened.

DT Tripp led the team in sacks again, this time with 13.  DE Davenport had a strong follow up season with 9 sacks.  Toone stepped back with just 6.5, and LE Dawson only had 4 sacks in his debut as a starter.  I need both to step up their games.

The secondary didn't make a lot of big plays.

PRO BOWL

FB McCauley made another PB.

WR Bartell made the PB.

LT Luther made the PB again.

LG J Williams made another PB

DT D Tripp made the PB.

Rookie CB Betts made the PB.  Weird.

Joe Mixon made the PB for the NFC.  Moving on from him so early was probably a mistake.

QB Witman will probably want $200+ mil now.

The biggest development is that WR Bartell gained Superstar dev trait.  Moving on from Tyler Boyd to Bartell in the slot has been one of the best moves I've made.

The other big news obviously is that rookie MLB Covington is an SS X Factor.  He only gained 6 OVRs, but he leveled more times than that because I was boosting up his coverage abilities (his OVR is based on Run Support right now).  I'm trying to get him to Field General before his SS trait pops.  Oh his X Factor ability is "Selfless" which says when he enters the zone all of his teammates enter the zone as well.  So he's like a legit Field General, he will make everyone better.  Pretty cool.

I got shafted with the CPU not giving Rookie CB Betts Star Dev after he won DROY.
