I just don't understand why this team thinks their players will simply learn all these things standing on the sidelines? Not playing doesn't help Perine and it certainly doesn't help our offense when Kelley is too slow to make it to a hole should one open. There's ways to develop a player and doing nothing isn't the answer.

If you don't know the responsibility you have in blocking as a RB and we pass the ball 2/3 of the game or mire, that's an issue. If Perine can show in meetings and In practice that he won't make mistakes in Protection he will get snaps.

For now though, they need to give CT more snaps. He should have had 10 carries last game and 5 or 6 of them should have been outside zone, pitch plays, sweeps or delay/draws. It's beyond clear we need to get the ball in his hands more than just 5-10 times a game.

If they run the outside zone with him with the occasional draw/delay and the occasional inside zone then they can work play action and bootlegs. They also need to run more screens with him. They should have run more RB screens last week with CT to slow down the Eagles pass rush. It would have went for 10-20 yards.

Poor or IMO no adjustments by Gruden at halftime was a problem.

For now, this is why Samaje is not starting. I'm pretty sure of it.

So you can't give him 4-5 carries a game because he has to learn how to block? That's fine, Jay can't keep sitting two of his more talented players because he likes lesser skilled players more. It's going to cost him his job but he's the coach.

I love how now it's Kelly's fault he gets hit two yards behind the line.

It's not all Kelley's fault but he's simply too slow to the hole. You could see it against Philly. When the OL would open a hole he'd either dance in the backfield and cut the wrong way or simply get tackled before he could really get going. He's a damn good back up and he's nice to have on the roster but he's not an NFL starter, he just doesn't have the speed.

Morris was slow. There aren't holes. It's not like Chris Thompson was tearing it up either.

There are some holes, but it's true they're not there every play. Kelley has missed some stuff and he's slow through those holes. He also predetermined his hits at times particularly on outside zone. If the coaches tell him to run outside zone at some length and then cut, that's what he does instead of having patience and waiting for holes to develop.

No one can convince me that a more talented back couldn't have done more with the carries Kelley got, particularly the one where a DL caught him from behind after he broke through the line. I believe it was about a 5 yard run when a guy like Thompson may have scored on that carry.

Paragraph 1 is why paragraph 2 doesn't happen for Thompson. He cannot pass block. It's not a lack of trying, but he physically cannot do it due to his size.

Thompson has blocked before. But honestly, I want him with the ball in his hands. So have him chip and then get out for a dump off.

Well I think they should Perine some work, but you were saying why isn't he starting, correct? Well that's most likely the reason, pass blocking. When a young talented back isn't starting over a vet, it is almost always because of pass blocking, especially on a team that is a pass first team.

I agree with your last point, he needs to start playing Thompson and Perine over Kelley if things don't change soon because we have a 8 or 9 game sample of Kelley averaging about 3 ypc now, dating back to last year. He's not cutting it.

As Slateman said, Thompson does enough as a blocker where he can do it, at least he wouldn't blow assignments. Also, as Slateman said, Thompson can chip a DE like Quinn this week and then get out on his route in the flat or in the short zone. Gruden just has to get more creative, Cousins needs to make the routine play rather than forcing it to Pyor when you have 3 other open wrs which are easier throws and Moses has to play better.
