MD4L
Camden Offense(Shotgun RPO/Power Pistol) In recent weeks we've been fortunate enough to take down two of the more explosive teams in the league to stay in the playoff hunt and right now Gotham is the last obstacle in accomplishing that goal. They've forfeited their game plan to an interim coach, and we're going to take that as a slight against us and use it as motivation to do everything we can to dominate. This week we'll incorporate some slightly different wrinkles into the offense to keep Counselor guessing. Mixing it up- Everyone's goal going forward is going to be stopping Lamar Jackson. In response to that, we want to make sure teams can't just sell out early in a game clog up the LOS. We're still going to be run oriented, but since our starting LT is back and we can spread the field out a bit more, we'll come out in a 4 wide base for our RPO offense today. The strength of the Gotham defense is it's safeties, and while their corners are big names they haven't played up to it this year so we think our receivers can do some things in the intermediate part of the field today. All of our guys do work after the catch, so lots of slants, crossing routes, quick screens, quick outs. Anything to get the ball into the hands of our receivers quickly, and these routes all play into our RPO very well. Here is some stuff to look at as examples of routes we want to work. Force the DB's to play laterally- Most of Gothams CB's are bigger guys, and they need to successfully press to excel at their job. Doing our usual thing of bunching our WR's, playing lots of trips formations and using motion will force Gothams players to have to work laterally very quickly off the snap and we think that benefits us greatly. If Counselor decides to go zone heavy against us for some reason, we'll employ more motion pre snap to help Jackson diagnose a little better. Our main route concepts still work well against zone, the only change would be some more out breaking routes like in this shake concept here: Power Pistol- The Ravens have run more snaps out of the pistol formation than every other NFL team combined this season. We're going to employ some of that today because it gives us a couple advantages. 1) It allows Jackson to be 4 yards of the LOS so he can diagnose the middle of the field quicker and it actually gives him more time to read the defensive end in the RPO. 2) It gives our RB's the same start you'd get in a traditional I-formation and will allow our bigger backs to use their power and quickness to attack a defense that could potentially be fielding extra DB's to try to clog up the field for Jackson. This formation could be crucial for us today as we expect a lighter defense, but can still run our offense the same way but with more power. Expect Jackson to get his usual 8-10 designed runs today as well. Our TE's will mix into the game help execute some power blocking on the edges as well. Defense (Cover 1 press man robber base) Gotham brings an offense with some options to work with, and as creative as Counselor can be we need to be about our business today. Here is what we'd like to do: Cover 1 base- This will be our base formation, as it will allow us to keep defenders closer to the LOS where most of his offensive players succeed but also allow us to keep our FS Kevin Byard over the top. Byard will always shade to Tyreek's side, essentially giving us a double team in the form of a bracket. We'll mix in some other coverage shells, like a cover 2 and cover 6 from time to time. Press man- As in recent weeks with our DB's healthier we think our best option for success is to play press. If there is one big knock on Carson Wentz recently, is that he holds onto the ball entirely too long and it leads to fumbles and sacks. He's fumbled 5 times in the last 4 games and most of that is waiting for his WR's to get open. With us pressing we hope to force that same issue. Our assignments are as follows: Hill - Ward Landry - Bouye Parker - Williams We'll leave RB and TE duties to Leonard and Jaylon Smith to alternate. We chose Ward to cover Hill because he's one of the few people in the league who can come close to matching Hill's speed and quickness. As stated before Byard will shade over the top in his cover 1 spot. Expect delayed blitzes from either Leonard or Smith if their coverage assignment stays in to block. Robber- With Jamal Adams playing our robber role this week, this is our favorite spot for him. We've done it lots before and we think this is what gives us the most advantageous uses of his skills. From here, he can either fill in at the LOS for run defense against Josh Jacobs, he can blitz off the edge or he can drop back into an intermediate zone to clog up quick passing lanes. Expect him to be closer to the LOS more often than not, and with him showing his blitzing acumen recently the Gotham line is going to have to account for him every time, and that will lead to some other guys potentially coming free against Wentz. Line movement- As in recent weeks, we like to rotate defensive lineman to keep everyone fresh since we tend to use post snap stunts and slants to attack an offensive line. With our meat wall in the middle of the field, we feel we can contain Jacobs there, but keeping the offensive lineman guessing on blocking assignments by moving and shifting can give our LB's some lanes to attack in the run game, or can get our edge rushers on some free rushes against Wentz potentially. Gotham Team: We hired an Exterminator from Anchorage to crush some rats. OFFENSE - 3WR (60%) 2RB (30%) Wildcat (10%) (50/50 Pass Run) Passing Game - We are going to run our 3 wide base set 60% of the time. We will run combo routes and utilize the different skill sets of our receivers. Landry will work out of the slot and attack the intermediate zones and middle of the field. Tyreek Hill will be used to stretch the field, we will take several deep shots to him, as well as slants and screens. Parker will be our bigger bodied redzone target and possession weapon. Kyle Rudolph will also be a big redzone target for us as well as a couple corner routes and seam stretching routes to help hold the safeties when we attack with Hill deep. We will incorporate the RPO this week as well. Wentz will have multiple weapons attacking multiple layers of the defense to provide us with options in our passing game. Running Game - Jacobs will be our heavy bell cow carrying 60% of the load this week with McCoy taking on the other 40%. We will incorporate our RPO to provide Jacobs and McCoy with slid running lanes. We will run a 2RB set with both of them 30% of the time. We will run some options plays with them as well. We will utilize Shaq Mason a lot on pulls as we want to take advantage of his athleticism out in space as a move blocker. He will make Jamal Adams think twice about coming downhill so fast off the edge if we run his way. A new wrinkle we will be utilizing will be the wildcat which will include 2TE and the 2RB in the backfield with Jacobs lined up in a QB position with McCoy as the RB. We were hired to get creative and we utilize this formation in short yardage and goaline sets to keep Camden guessing. Protection - There are some injuries up front for us. Pouncey and Andrus Peat are both hurt. So we will utilize Alex Mack at C and Kaleb McGary at LG. We will let Wentz dictate protection, and also motion WR and/or RB or TE to determine coverage. DEFENSE - 4-2-5 Heavy Nickel We play the hottest ticket in town with Lamar Jackson on the opposite side of us. He just helped Camden upset the number one seed in BDL. Camden has in our opinion the best receiving corps in the league. We will be running a lot of heavy zone and our base again this week will be a 3 safety look. Run Defense - We will be playing gap control defense, making sure we are keeping tabs on Lamar at all times. Zach Cunningham has spy on Lamar Jackson all game. By having our 3 Safeties we have more athleticism on the field to match up against Lamar Jackson and this offense. If they go 2 Wide or less we will still stay in our 4-2-5 Heavy Nickel. Pass Defense - We will be running all zone concepts this game, so we are not turning our backs to this offense. Cover 2 and Cover 3 mix with some blitzing sprinkled in. We will be lining Minkah in the slot providing us with a playmaker there and someone who can blitz off the edge, drop into zone, run the alley, and just make plays. We will move Simmons around the defense looking to make plays either as a robber or blitzer. McKinney will play disruptor in a middle zone or blitz. We will occasionally send Simmons or Minkah depending on the zone coverage. If they run a 4 wide we will take McKinney off the field and bring Jourdan Lewis in as the Dime. Dline and Pass Rush - We have our four man line which will not overpursue. They will play very disciplined football. We want to funnel everything back into the middle and not get beat outside. We will play gap control head up football. When we blitz we will often send extra heat to Bolles side to rattle him. Once Bolles is thrown off his game early he often holds and makes bone headed penalties in the game. We entrust Chris Jones and Dontari Poe to get after Jackson from the interior and clog their gaps successfully in this game.
