Makes no sense. Jon/Stipe doesn't need a belt to sell. It's a legacy fight. Give them a BMF belt, if you need a belt on the line. Conversely, Aspinall/Pavlovich DOES need a belt to establish their legitimacy but instead, not only are they not fighting for a real belt, but the president of the company literally just came out and told everyone that it would be "disrespectful" to offer an interim title shot to a real contender. Dana buried his future HW talent to hypothetically add a few hundred ppv buys (maybe?) to a fight that may not ever even happen. What's crazy is there's a chance the interim belt is defended before that Jon-Stipe fight even happens.......... Aspinall and Pavlovich are essentially both in their prime and barring injury neither would be motivated to sit out the 8 months it's gonna take for Jon to get back. So in 4-5 months we could see one them defending the interim belt. Then if the rumors are true, and Stipe and Jon both retire after their fight, the interim belt holder will be promoted to undisputed status.
