True, but Urlacher was an exceptional athlete, Anderson isn’t that athletically gifted and Anderson is built like Elvis Dumervil and James Harrison.

Fair to bring up Dumervil, but he was one-dimensional and an easy game plan for opposing OCs. For his height (sub 6'), he had long arms and GMs were thinking Freeney-lite (in the fourth round).

Harrison made his mark with long arms and pure power.

Not impossible, but James Harrison was one of those workout warriors that got shredded and maxed his power/explosiveness. That would involve a pretty big step for Anderson to make, a bigger step than transitioning to ILB.

When I read what mike mayock and others say about Anderson it sounds like Harrison. They said Anderson was the best at turning his strength into power when rushing the passer and he’ll be a great run defender - better than our current starting OLBs - no matter where he plays. I’m not going to say Anderson won’t event be an ILB but if guys like Harrison, Dumervil and also Lorenzo Alexander can work hard and become good pass rushing OLBs after a few years of developing and working their tails off, so can Anderson.

I wouldn't shock me at all if Kerrigan retires in 2 or 3 years and either Anderson or preferably Murphy with Anderson being our 3rd OLB take over for Kerrigan. I know this might not make some Redskins fans happy because we could do better at both OLB spots, but I think Smith is going to be our starting ROLB for next 7 or 8 years.

Ha! Junior Galette direct messaged me off of a comment I made on his post about how many pass rushing snaps Fletcher Cox had - 44 - and that he could do more and he’d like to see that many snaps. I said where are you going to go and start? He messaged me and said are you saying I’m not a starter? I said not necessarily just asking where he thinks he could go and start because some teams are set of have young pass rushers they like. He said HE would start anywhere. I almost sent a Lol back to him but just pointed out teams which needed a pass rusher like him where he could start, but I think he’s a bit delusional and is going to be disappointed if he thinks he’s going to have 10 or more suitors for a starting DE/OLB spot, I came up with around 10 but 4 or 5 of those will draft an OLB in round 1 or early 8n round 2.

Galette is a 30 y.o. pass rush specialist. He has 3-5 years in him, if he stays healthy.
Be amazing to have him here and would be worth around $5M per year. I think he has a sizable market.

I'm good with Murphy taking the reps as the first OLB sub.

What you're saying isn't impossible (re: Anderson), but it's about the least likely thing to happen when you consider everything. To give Anderson a chance to compete for a spot, they need to put him in a position to succeed.

I don’t think it’s about the money for Galette, he wants to start somewhere.

Exactly, and my tweet back to him was implying that he wasn’t a starter. It must have ticked him off becsuse he direct messaged me the question directly and then I came up with an answer to say otherwise... ?

Why on earth would we bring Trent Murphy or Junior Galette back? We drafted a OLB in the second round. Give him more playing time and let the dead weight, over-priced nobodies go.

Because you need 4 or 5 good OLBs & Murphy has versatility to be moved inside as a pass rusher on 2nd and 3rd & Long situations.

Also Manusky & Tomsula screwed the pooch last year on 3rd & long situations. They didn’t try different pass rush packages like Haslett had in the past - Haz had the NASCAR package - one 3-4 DE over the C & 3 OLBs on the field to rush the passer. Haz also would move Kerrigan to a DT spot sometimes to rush against guards. The Redskins defense should have done this more since Haz was fired and they haven’t.

I talked about all offseason and regular season how we needed to get Galette, Kerrigan and Smith on the field together on 3rd and Long or obvious pass situations when we were protecting a lead in the second half and the opposing team was throwing the ball almsot every down.

They didn’t do it, it was highly disappointing. Galette was our most efficient pass rusher last year, he needed more snaps, sliding Smith or Kerrigan to the 3-4 DE position to rush against a guard on 3rd and Long would have made a huge difference in our pass rush last and probably would have resulted in each of them getting at least 1 more sack.

We are bringing Trent Murphy back . Although I see him rotating off of the DL.

if gallet  gone I wouldn't mind a vet like Peppers or Dwight freeny .

I don’t think we bring in Peppers or Freeney unless something happens to a starter during the season and the young guys aren’t playng well enough.

Anderson and kerrigan and smith are playing . Peppers or freeney would be good vet rotation .

Not likely, Peppers and Freeney are guys you sign to be starters or #3 pass rushers. We should re-sign Murphy who is younger and should be cheaper than the guys in their mid 30s. We also need to see what Anderson develops into. He needs playing time, signing a DE/OLB who’s pushing 40 and is a stop gap will only stunt Anderson’s development.
